Celebrity and fashion trends: Block colours

By Andrea Petrou on May 12th, 2011

We’ve been raving on about the block trend ever since we spotted it on the Spring/Summer 2011 catwalks.
The likes of Julian Macdonald and Chanel championed this trend in their collections, combining contrasting and darker hues.

And it seems this trend is set to stay with the likes of PPQ and Gwen Stefani’s LAMB label also showcasing this look at their AW 2011 shows. To be in with the colour block trend his season you only have to look at the likes of Cheryl Cole and Rihanna who have been working this look over the recent weeks.

Go for bold secondary colours on the top and bottom like both these ladies, or give a nod to the look with a bright belt. Failing that a contrasting bright cardigan over an equally bright frock will also help channel this look.

View LFW shows from the comfort of your sofa

By Andrea Petrou on February 3rd, 2010

It’s good news for fashionistas, who like to keep their eye on all the latest trends but can’t make it to London Fashion Week.

Because this season every show shown in the British Fashion Council tent at Somerset House from the 19th to 24th will be streamed live meaning you can watch shows from designers including Jaeger London and PPQ on your laptop.

There will also be exclusive films from Hussein Chalayan, Boudicca, Twenty8Twelve and Danielle Scutt.

We think this is an excellent idea, especially as recently as a few years ago these shows could only be watched by magazine folk.

We’ve got our favourite slippers and mug for tea at the ready.

The Sugababes model purple scarves in aid of Fight Cervical Cancer in Style

By Andrea Petrou on December 3rd, 2009

sugar-babes-1259795690.jpgThe Sugababes have teamed up with a range of designers to raise awareness about cervical cancer.

Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and newest member of the Sugababes, Jade Ewen, will front the Fight Cervical Cancer in Style campaign. They have also modelled a limited edition purple Fight Cervical Cancer in Style scarf designed by Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker of British fashion emporium PPQ.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Heidi Range said: “Having performed at Jade Goody’s wedding, cervical cancer is a subject we feel passionately about. We are proud to be supporting the campaign as it is important that girls and women realise how they could catch the virus that causes cervical cancer, as well as the steps they could take to reduce their risk.”

And now for the medical bit.

Many women believe that cervical cancer is hereditary, however, almost all cases are caused by a common virus called HPV (human papillomavirus). The virus can be passed on through sexual contact, therefore girls and women are at risk as soon as they start having intimate relationships. The virus is usually cleared naturally by the immune system but sometimes it persists and could lead to cervical cancer.

Currently, eight women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and nearly three women die of the disease every day in the UK. It’s the most common cancer in women aged 20-29 and the second most common cancer in women under 35 years old. It is therefore important that girls and women are made aware of the risks of cervical cancer and the best ways to reduce their risk, including a healthy lifestyle, cervical screening and vaccination against HPV (human papillomavirus).

We think this is a fantastic cause and will definitely be buying one of the scarves to show our support.

Hot ‘n’ heavy in New York, splitsville in London: Mark Ronson and Daisy Lowe call it quits

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on September 15th, 2008

What a difference a fashion week makes. Catwalk Queen was sad to hear that Daisy Lowe and Mark Ronson have split. The it-couple of New York Fashion Week have reportedly separated following an argument over the 14-year-age gap between them.

Last week the stylish duo were spotted all over the Big Apple at fashion shows, at designer after-parties, and on the front row.

Yesterday, Daisy was back in London and back on the catwalk at the PPQ spring/summer ’09 show. She was watched in the front row by pals, Pixie and Peaches Geldof (who modelled for PPQ two seasons ago). Overall, Daisy is expected to model in two shows this week.

CQ covered the PPQ show here and will be funneling lots of exclusive London Fashion Week goss our way!

Trend Alert: Figure skating skirts

By Andrea Thatcher on November 12th, 2007

A very hot trend this season is the full, pleated figure skating-style skirt as seen on WhoWhatWearDaily. Usually super short and flowing, it can also be worn longer, as shown above on Ashley Olsen and Molly Sims. Pair it with a wide, high-waisted belt, opaque black tights and metallic or patent leather pumps to complete this ultra-fab look. And don’t worry, this is not a one season trend–you’ll get full wear of this chic skirt through spring and summer ’08. It was a haute trend throughout the runways of PPQ (above, right), Proenza Schouler, and Donna Karan. Continue to the jump to find out wear you can find your own figure-skating-like fashions.
