Fashion News Roundup: Dita Von Teese, Project Runway and more

By Andrea Thatcher on December 6th, 2007

Dita.jpg

Fabsugar has been on a Who Wore It Better marathon! Take your choice between Heidi Klum or Jennifer Hudson in a Michael Kors jumpsuit (yes, we said jumpsuit), Audrina Patridge or Mischa Barton in an Alexander Wang metallic dress (Audrina just looks cold) and Dancing With the Stars’ Julianne Hough or Susan Sarandon’s daughter Eva Amurri in a Jay Godfrey bow dress (this is our favorite look).

Check out party pics from Karl Lagerfeld’s private Party at London’s Nobu on Catwalk Queen here and here (more on Emma Watson’s foxy new look to come).

Fashionista points out that Nina Garcia is kind of contradicting her own magazine on Project Runway. On last night’s ep the judges threw some “passe” fashions at the wannabe designers to remake, the only problem is that many of these fashions have been recently featured in Elle!

Dita Von Teese makes us all jealous with her holiday pinup parade, and Lipstick Panic is no exception.

Check out Britney’s Versace bag over at TheBagLady.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art makes room for fashion, as does The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Runway Recap: Project Runway gets underway – spoilers ahead!

By Andrea Thatcher on November 15th, 2007

PR%20image.jpg

Project Runway is auf and running, and some stereotypical personalities have already been defined – not to mention frontrunners for the prize. This year? To have your collection sold on Bluefly.com (shoppers win either way!), a feature in Elle magazine (Judge Nina Garcia’s home tome), $100,000 to start their own line and a car (in New York? Why?). Guest judge Monique Lhuillier added her expertise to the panel this week, so we’re excited to see who else they get. We’ll be revealing some spoilers each week in the column so if you’ve haven’t watched the night before’s episode, it’s best to keep scrolling. If you saw the show and are eager to discuss, or just don’t mind being spoiled – keep reading for more photos and our recap.

Are you ready for season 4 of Project Runway?

By Andrea Thatcher on November 12th, 2007

season%204.jpg

Season 4 of Project Runway premieres on Wednesday, have you checked out the new designers yet? There’s Chris, who seems like a combination of Jay and Austin. There are a few Parsons graduates: Jillian, Marion, and Simone. Maybe they’ll go up against FIT kids Kit and Kevin. There are definitely more smirky smiles than genuine grins with this group, so watch out! Be sure to check back after every episode for our recap of the design and drama! The judges say we’ll be surprised with some of their choices this season.

Project Runway fashions to be sold on Bluefly

By Andrea Thatcher on November 7th, 2007

PR%204.jpg

The fourth season of Project Runway premieres Nov. 14 and we’re ready! And with Bluefly.com as the exclusive retail sponsor, we can expect some more focus on how to integrate the show’s fashions into our own wardrobes. WWD reports that Bluefly will offer a “Get the Look” segment that helps shoppers find pieces similar to those features on the show. While we’ve seen what CoverGirl has done to America’s Next Top Model over the years, we’ll trust Project Runway to keep the relationship more low key and less in-your-face with its product plugs. In addition to the advertising during the season, Bluefly will give the season four winner the opportunity to sell their clothes on the site.

More Project Runway winner news, Jeffrey Sebelia launches contemporary line

By Andrea Thatcher on November 2nd, 2007

Jeffrey.jpg

Earlier this week we showed you some of the new items from Project Runway Season 2 winner Chloe Dao’s line for QVC, and now comes news that the season 3 winner Jeffrey Sebelia is launching a lower-priced contemporary line named after himself. His more upscale Cosa Nostra line attracts celebs like Gwen Stefani and Tommy Lee, but this new line is targetted toward “a younger customer who cannot afford Cosa Nostra” Sebelia told WWD. “Girls today shop at H&M and Urban Outfitters, and then go to boutiques and put it all together,” he said, and this new line caters to that demographic.

Silk dresses with a ’40s sensibility, ruffled skirts, tank tops, loose blouses, and jean shorts are all among the 100 pieces of the collection. The price range is $38 to $78. Jeffrey’s clothes are currently available at the Steve Martino & Assoc. showroom in the New Mart in New York, but he hopes the new line will sell in a range of stores. We’ll keep you posted!

Remember Chloe Dao, winner of Project Runway 2? Buy her designs on QVC!

By Andrea Thatcher on October 31st, 2007

Chloe%20Dao.jpg
Chloe Dao, winner of Project Runway Season 2, was back on QVC today with new items from her line. I bought a silk dress of hers the last time around and received so many compliments on it that I’m definitely going to choose one of these new items. It really fit like a glove and the quality was terrific. Out of her new collection I’m eyeing up this Deep V silk dress with ribbon trim, $67.32, and this Ribbon Trim Sweater, $42. Chloe’s Simply Chloe Dao collection is part of what seems like a push at QVC to integrate younger, more hip and fashionable designers to their repertoire, like Carson Kressley and Heidi Klum.

“Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style”–moms need fashion, too!

By Andrea Thatcher on September 21st, 2007

76789274_edited.jpgIn the latest “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style”, Tim and Veronica help out a married mom of two, Nicole, to take time for herself and dress with confidence. Nicole seemed to think she was flabby (not so!) Tim made Nicole toss out all her capri pants, which were her ‘uniform.’ Tim says a uniform is fine, provided it works for you. And for Nicole, it did not. Nicole also had a hard time taking any time for herself, even enjoying a pedicure was too much because she felt she could be doing mom-things. Tim reminded Nicole that a good foundation is needed, something I think will appear in each episode. Nicole was outfitted appropriately, and then off to Macy’s where they went to shop (Lucky!)

Red dress on the red carpet? Yes, please. Heidi Klum, Mary-Louise Parker, and Kathryn Morris

By Andrea Thatcher on September 16th, 2007

Red%20dresses.jpg

Always-stunning Heidi Klum surely succeeded in project: red carpet in a stunning Dior strapless number. It was nice to see a model and fashion-television personality do homage to a big name coutourier amidst some more low key names at the Emmy Awards. Nominee Mary-Louise Parker, of “Weeds”, kept the fashion stakes high with a curve-hugging Dolce and Gabbana gown, which she told E! didn’t leave room for figure fixers like Spanx. Luckily she doesn’t need them. And finally, in an eye popping cherry red, Kathryn Morris, of “Cold Case”, looked hot.

Not to be outdone by that pesky CFDA, the Los Angeles Fashion Awards have announced the nominees and special honorees of their October 26 event. Max Azria has already been named as the recipient of the Wells Fargo Century Fashion Achievement Award, and Project Runway will pick up the Inspiration Award. So what prizes will we have to wait to find out about? Well, Fashion Retailer of the Year, for one. The noms include American Rag Cie, Fred Segal, Lisa Kline, and The Way We Wore.
