Sarah Harding ashamed of stint in rehab

By Andrea Petrou on December 12th, 2011

Sarah Harding “cried hysterically” on her way to rehab.

The Girls Aloud singer felt “ashamed” and “embarrassed” about visiting a US treatment centre in October to seek help for depression and alcoholism, but it was her bandmates who first made her realise she had a problem.

She said: “The day I left for rehab, I was in such a mess. I’ve been told by those close to me that was when I hit my worst.

“I was crying hysterically. I felt ashamed, embarrassed, terrified – my emotions were all over the place.”

Speaking about seeing her bandmates Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh for dinner after a drunken previous night, she added: “I saw Nicola and Kimberley for dinner. I wasn’t in a good state at all – I was very hungover. But the first thing I wanted to do was open a bottle of wine. I know they were really worried about me.”

The blonde beauty’s drinking escalated out of control when her relationship with former fiance Tom Crane began to take a turn for the worse.

She explained to Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “Our lives had started to go in different directions without us even realising and we’d become like passing ships.

“He had his career, I had mine, and somehow they didn’t seem to marry up. As far as our future plans were concerned, I didn’t see how it would work.

“I was so down but I just tried to keep busy and, to numb myself, I was drinking more. It was my way of escaping.”

Sarah – who checked out of rehab last month – believes she has turned her life around and is confident she can cope in social situations without alcohol.

She explained: “I’ve turned 30 now and, although there will always be a bit of the rock chick in me, I’m trying to embrace my softer and more feminine side. I’ve realised I can socialise without booze.”

Cheryl Cole’s malaria battle “opened” her eyes to healthy living

By Andrea Petrou on November 8th, 2011

Cheryl Cole’s malaria battle “opened” her eyes to healthy living.

The former X Factor judge caught the disease after visiting Africa last year with then-boyfriend Derek Hough, and although she was in hospitalised she insists it did benefit her as it made her focus more on the important things in life.

She said: “It opened my eyes to health and things I hadn’t focused on before. It’s now less about work, work, work and more about taking time to chill and be with my friends and family.”

The 28-year-old singer was left bed-ridden by the effects of malaria and she has revealed the disease “ate away” her muscles and turned her complexion yellow.

In an interview with InStyle magazine, she said: “I was yellow because of my kidneys – it was a bit like jaundice. It was hard to find a matching foundation, let me tell you!

“I had to take good care of myself and I was told to stop exercising and to gain weight to get well. I just ate everything.”

Meanwhile, Cheryl is planning a girly holiday with her Girls Aloud bandmate Sarah Harding after the blonde star completes her rehab treatment in the US.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Cheryl has been there for Sarah massively. They’ve had some heartfelt conversations on the phone. Cheryl can identify with Sarah because she’s hit rock bottom in the past too.

“It’s been a long time since they’ve spent real quality time together so they’ve decided to jet off for a break. They thought America will be best as they can slip under the radar out there. Obviously it will be a wholesome holiday.”

Lindsay Lohan checks into jail

By Andrea Petrou on November 7th, 2011

Lindsay Lohan has checked into jail.

The troubled actress – who was sentenced to 300 days in jail last week after admitting she had violated the terms of her probation in relation to a 2007 DUI (driving under the influence) case but will only spend 30 days behind bars – arrived at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California at 8.48pm PST last night to begin serving her sentence, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department website states.

However, the 25-year-old star is expected to be released within hours of her arrival due to jail overcrowding.

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore has said Lindsay may have to spend time in jail overnight if there are several other inmates checking out at the same time.

Lindsay admitted last week she had violated her probation by failing to show up at community service appointments at a women’s shelter in Los Angeles.

Superior Court Judge Stephanie Saunter told Lindsay – who attended the Los Angeles Superior Court Airport branch in a navy polka dot dress and Giuseppe Zanotti high heels -she will now have to perform all of her community service at a morgue and complete 19 psycho-therapy sessions by March 29, 2012.

If she completes them all, her probation will be over and the rest of the sentence will be stayed indefinitely.

If she fails to do so, she will have to serve the remainder of the 270 days of her sentence.

In an unusual twist, the judge also banned Lindsay from using social networking site twitter while working at the morgue.

The sentence is the ‘Mean Girls’ actress’ fifth since she was arrested twice for drunk driving in 2007, and earlier this year she served 35 days under house arrest.

Cheryl Cole visits Sarah Harding in rehab

By Andrea Petrou on November 2nd, 2011

Cheryl Cole has visited Sarah Harding in rehab.

The ‘Promise This’ singer is “pulling out all the stops” to help her Girls Aloud bandmate – who checked into an American treatment facility in Arizona earlier this month to receive help for depression and alcohol addiction – and the brunette beauty has even invited her to stay at her Los Angeles home to escape from the UK when she checks out.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: “Cheryl is really concerned for her friend Sarah. She made time in her busy schedule to travel over to Arizona and visit her in the rehab centre.

“Cheryl feels really passionate about alcohol and drug abuse after years of worrying about her drug addict brother Andrew.

“She has told Sarah she is more than welcome to use her LA home as an escape pad when she comes out of rehab. A bolt-hole where Sarah can chill out and escape the London limelight and maybe try to save her relationship with Tom.”

Sarah – who called off her engagement to DJ Tom Crane in the summer – has reportedly extended her stay in rehab and is unlikely to be out in time for Christmas.

Girls Aloud member Kimberley Walsh recently revealed 29-year-old Sarah is doing “really well” on the programme.

She explained: “I don’t want to go into detail about Sarah, but she’s doing really well.”

By Andrea Petrou on October 25th, 2011

Sarah Harding is doing “really well”.

The Girls Aloud star entered rehab earlier this month to receive treatment for depression and alcohol addiction and bandmate Kimberley Walsh says she’s responding well.

Kimberley – who is currently playing Princess Fiona in the West End production of ‘Shrek’ – said: “I don’t want to go into detail about Sarah, but she’s doing really well. I hope that soon she will be well enough to come and see me. My contract’s due to end in February.”

While Sarah is yet to go and see Kimberley in action, Cheryl Cole and Nicola Roberts have and Kimberley is hoping Nadine Coyle will follow suit.

She told new! magazine: “Cheryl and Nicola have seen it and they loved it. They texted me earlier to wish me good luck. Nadine will hopefully come and see me, too.”

The 29-year-old beauty also revealed the group – who are currently on a break – are keen to work together again and would love to be the subject of their own musical.

She said: “A musical about Girls Aloud would be brilliant! It would work because it would have songs that are relatable. The girls and I have something planned for next year.”

Sarah Harding checks into rehab for to be treated for “depression and alcohol addiction” following her split from Tom Crane

By Andrea Petrou on October 12th, 2011

Sarah Harding has checked into rehab for to be treated for “depression and alcohol addiction”.

The Girls Aloud singer is struggling to deal with the break-up of her relationship with fiance Tom Crane in September and has decided to book herself into an unknown rehabilitation facility abroad after hitting “rock bottom”.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “She’s been through a traumatic time in her personal life and had to honour her work commitments on top. She needs some time out to clear her head.

“Splitting from Tom has played a huge part in her decision to seek help. She has hit rock bottom.”

Sarah, 31, was due to marry next summer, but the couple decided to separate after a number of arguments.

Since then, friends have urged the blonde beauty – who has been dating Tom for four years – to deal with her issues by seeking help, but she continued to “bury her head in the sand”.

The source added: “It all just got the better of her. She had been with Tom for a long time. All her plans for the future suddenly came crashing down.

“Some of her closest friends had suggested she seek help over the last few months, but she refused.

“She was burying her head in the sand, but now she is getting support.”

A representative confirmed: “Sarah Harding has entered a treatment centre for depression and alcohol addiction.”

Ex Dior designer John Galliano to attend trial this week for alleged anti-Semetic remarks

By Andrea Petrou on June 21st, 2011

John Galliano will attend his trial this week.

The troubled fashion designer has been in rehab since he allegedly made anti-Semetic remarks in a Paris cafe in February but insiders say he will be in court in the French capital for the initial hearing on Wednesday (22.06.11).

A source told Vogue.co.uk: “John is still in rehab. The treatment will be long and arduous – and ongoing for a long time in the future – but he is humble, apologetic and hopeful that he can recover.”

The initial hearing – which will be held in front of three judges but no jury as it is a minor offence – is expected to last between four and five hours, with witnesses from both sides giving evidence.

The 50-year-old designer – who was fired from Dior over his remarks – is expected to blame a drug and alcohol addiction for the tirade, while his lawyer Aurelien Hamelle admits John can’t remember the alleged incident.

Aurelien said: “He does not remember because he was in an altered state.”

Speaking about the comments, the lawyer added: “They do not reflect what he thinks. He’s not anti-Semitic or racist.”

Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer meets with her judge in a bid to keep her out of jail.

By Andrea Petrou on March 10th, 2011

Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer has met with her judge in a bid to keep her out of jail.

The troubled star is due in court later today to say if she will take a plea bargain in her alleged felony theft of a $2,500 necklace from jeweller Kamofie & Company.

Her lawyer, Shawn Holly, met with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartz – who is hearing the case – and Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers yesterday (09.03.11) in a bid to convince them to revise their plea deal of six months jail time.

A source told website Radaronline.com: “Holly is trying to use the fact the jewellery store owners sold the surveillance video of Lindsay to keep her client out of jail, or at least consider greatly reducing the six months that the District Attorney is seeking for probation violation.”

Earlier this week it emerged Kamofie & Company had sold the CCTV footage of Lindsay in the store on the day of the alleged theft for profit, which it has been claimed could work to her advantage.

A source said earlier this week: “The owners of the store’s credibility is on the line, and going to be scrutinised. The price of the necklace is going to be revisited again.

“For Lindsay to be charged with a felony, the necklace had to be priced at over $900.

“Holley has an excellent argument that the owners could have inflated the price of the necklace to the authorities.”

If Lindsay doesn’t take a plea deal, her case will proceed to trial, and she will face a much longer sentence if found guilty, as she will be classed as a repeat offender.

The 24-year-old star’s legal troubles all stem from a 2007 Driving Under the Influence arrest, and in January she completed a 90-day court ordered stay in rehab.
