Style spotlight: Pippa Middleton

By Andrea Petrou on May 4th, 2011

Pippa Middleton had been under sister Kate’s fashion shadow for a while.

However, on Friday everything changed. Looking stunning in a white slinky bridesmaids dress designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, the bride’s younger sister caught the attention of not only Prince Harry but also the fashion world.
Unlike Kate who has had to conform to mid-knee hems, classic jackets and unrevealing clothing, Pippa has the best of both worlds. She can choose to copy Kate’s look but she also has the freedom to dress how she likes and so far she’s done just that, appearing in slinky black dresses, funky frocks and revealing numbers. In fact if you want to remember how Kate used to dress you only have to look at Pippa.

It was common knowledge that the sisters used to share their clothes as they both had almost identical style. And while Kate has chosen a range of Warehouse goodies for her Honeymoon we know that as soon as she gets back they’ll probably be passed onto Pippa. Afterall an asymmetric frock is fine for a private date away but now she’s a royal Kate won’t get away with it. We just hope her style can live on through her sister.

Alice Temperley felt “honoured” to design Pippa Middleton’s dress

By Andrea Petrou on May 4th, 2011

Alice Temperley felt “honoured” to design Pippa Middleton’s dress for the royal wedding reception on Friday night.

The brunette beauty – who had earlier in the day wowed the world with her white figure-hugging Alexander McQueen dress as she acted as sister Princess Catherine’s Maid of Honour – once again looked amazing in a floor-length green dress and the designer says it was a privilege being able to work with her.

She told vogue.co.uk: “I was honoured that Ms. Pippa Middleton asked us to design her dress for the royal wedding evening reception. Pippa is a beautiful young woman and a delight to work with. She looked incredible and the green colour looks great on her skin tone.”

Alice says she and Pippa worked together on the dress as they both wanted to get it just right for the party at Buckingham Palace, following the service at Westminster Abbey.

Alice added: “Pippa came into our store in Colville Mews and she fell in love with the Long Arabia dress – we chose a new colour and reworked it with the lovely new back – incorporating new artwork panels with crystals, gold and silver details. We had about four fittings in our private bridal suite in the Mews. We decided on the colour and artwork panels together.”

Meanwhile, Pippa, 27, has become a worldwide sensation following her white bridesmaid dress, which showed off her stunning figure to perfection.

The dress had a beautiful hourglass silhouette, cowl neck and was softened a little with lace edging to her capped sleeves and décolletage and matched her sister’s McQueen bridal dress perfectly.

Gallery: The top ten best dressed women in the world- Emma Watson, Cheryl Cole, Blake Lively and Alexa Chung

By Andrea Petrou on May 3rd, 2011

Emma Watson has been named the world’s best-dressed woman.

The 21-year-old actress, who has previously been a UK Vogue cover girl and is the face of Lancome make-up, beat Cheryl Cole – last year’s number one – to the top spot in a list by Glamour magazine.

Fashion designer Victoria Beckham dropped seven places in the list to 15th, although Beyonce Knowles suffered the biggest slide from ninth last year to 36th.

Among the surprising entries are Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter Suri, who despite being just five years old was said by the magazine to have “the most covetable wardrobe in Hollywood”.

British prime minister David Cameron’s wife Samantha – who caused controversy by being among the only female guests at the wedding of Prince William and Princess Catherine on Friday  to not wear a hat – was among the newcomers at number 19.

The full list was compiled by over 15,000 votes on Glamour.com, and will appear in the June issue of the magazine.

See the gallery below for the ladies that came in the top ten.

Ellie Goulding will “never” forget performing at the royal wedding reception

By Andrea Petrou on May 3rd, 2011

Ellie Goulding will “never” forget performing at the royal wedding reception.

The ‘Starry Eyed’ hitmaker was asked by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to sing at their post-wedding party at Buckingham Palace on Friday (29.04.11) and after serenading the 300 guests with a selection of her hits and clovers of classic tracks – including Sir Elton John’s ‘Your Song’, which was the couple’s first dance – she admits she was “honoured” to have been involved.

She said: “It was an amazing honour to be asked by Kate and William to perform at their party. The atmosphere was incredible and it is a night I’ll never forget!”

While members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth and William’s father Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, left before midnight, the celebrations continued until 2am for younger revellers at an afterparty thrown by best man Prince Harry.

According to reports, the final song played was King’s of Leon’s ‘Sex on Fire’, after Prince Harry promised partygoers one final song before they had to leave.

Introducing the song, he told guests: “This has been a great night but please respect the family and those upstairs when you leave. And don’t wake up the neighbours.

“OK, here’s one more song but promise you will leave after. This one is dedicated to my brother.”

Guests at Harry’s afterparty were treated to potent Crack Baby cocktails, which contain vodka, passion fruit, raspberry liqueur and champagne, and tucked into snacks including popcorn and Haribo sweets.

Earlier in the day, guests at the more formal wedding reception – who were seated at tables named after towns and cities close to the hearts of the bride and groom – were served a three-course meal cooked by Prince Charles’ favourite chef Anton Mossiman.

He served crab layered with fresh langoustine, followed by herb-stuffed lamb, then a trio of desserts, chocolate mousse, honeycomb ice cream and sherry trifle.

Kate Middleton reveals her Sarah Burton designed wedding dress

Kate Middleton has finally revealed her wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton.

The Alexander McQueen designer created the ivory gown with lace applique floral detailing and a 2.7 metre train, as well as the bridesmaid dress worn by the bride’s sister Pippa Middleton, and Kate’s ivory duchesse satin and lace shoes.

The skirt was handmade by the royal school of needlework at Hampton Court.

The lace design was hand-engineered using Carickmacross lace making techniques developed in Ireland in the 1820s.

The individual flowers – thistles, roses, daffodils and shamrocks – were hand-cut from Chantilly lace and engineered onto ivory silk tulle.

Kate wore a diamond Cartier tiara – loaned by Queen Elizabeth – and long veil with her hair pinned up at the front, flowing into soft curls at the back.

Her earrings, diamond-set stylised oak leaves designed by Robinson Pelham, were a gift from parents Michael and Carole.

The bride-to-be kept her flowing gown virtually hidden as she made her way to Westminster Abbey, with only parts of her flowing train visible as she and her father Michael Middleton got into their car to travel to her wedding.

William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth wore an Angela Kelly primrose dress with hand-sewn beading and matching hait, accessorised with Queen Mary’s true lovers knot brooch.

Kate’s mother Carole Middleton was a hit in the fashion stakes, wearing a Catherine Walker-designed sky blue wool crepe coat dress with satin piping and Jane Corbett hat.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall teamed her Anne Valentine champagne blue silk dress and hand-embroidered coat with an eye-catching Philip Treacy hat and bronze Jimmy Choo shoes.

In total, the milliner designed hats for 35 members of the royal families, including Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Queen Anna-Marie of Greece and Princess Mathilde of Belgium.

Prince William and Kate Middleton to become Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

By shinychris on April 29th, 2011

Prince William and Kate Middleton: Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Prince William and Kate Middleton will become the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge after their wedding today (is there a wedding today, haven’t heard about it anywhere?)

The couple will tie the knot at Westminster Abbey at 11am and this morning William’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth conferred the Dukedom on the 28-year-old prince. William’s other titles will include Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus.

A statement from Buckingham Palace announced: “The Queen has today been pleased to confer a Dukedom on Prince William of Wales. His titles will be Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus.”

Meanwhile, William has chosen to wear the uniform of Colonel of the Irish Guards at his wedding.

The Royal Air Force (RAF) search-and rescue pilot who is commissioned in all three branches of the armed services decided to wear the uniform of his senior honorary appointment in the army.

He will wear a forage cap, gold and crimson sash and gold sword slings but no sword. The uniform was fitted by Kashket and Partners.

William’s 26-year-old brother and best man Prince Harry will wear the uniform of a Captain of the Household Cavalry (Blues and Royals). William spent his last evening as a single man with his father Prince Charles, stepmother Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and brother before taking time out to speak with well-wishers who had lined the Mall in preparation for his big day.

Ellie Goulding will perform at the wedding reception of Prince William and Kate Middleton tomorrow

By Andrea Petrou on April 28th, 2011

Ellie Goulding will perform at the wedding reception of Prince William and Kate Middleton tomorrow.

The royal couple will tie the knot at Westminster Abbey in London followed by a meal hosted by Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace and the ‘Starry Eyed’ singer has been invited to provide the after-dinner entertainment at an intimate gathering for 300 people hosted by William’s father Prince Charles.

William and Kate reportedly chose the pop star because they believe her music will appeal to guests of all ages.

A source said: “William and Kate are huge fans of Ellie and were keen to sign her up.

“Her music goes down well with the young ones, plus a few of the older guests will be nodding their heads along.

“They really wanted a top British talent and the couple are delighted Ellie agreed to perform. She can’t wait, although she’s a tad nervous.”

William, 28 and Kate, 29, hope Ellie will serenade them with her cover of ‘Your Song’ by Sir Elton John – who will attend the nuptials with his partner David Furnish – and the excited singer is said to be “honoured” with the invitation.

An insider told the Daily Mail newspaper: “Ellie was knocked off her feet when she received the invitation to perform for Prince William and Kate – and was so hugely honoured when they said they were both big fans of her music.

“She still can’t quite believe that she will perform for the royal newlyweds, all the young royal guests and their friends, it hasn’t sunk in yet.”

Ellie, 24, will be accompanied by her boyfriend, DJ Greg James.

Kate Middleton wants to look natural on her wedding day.

By Andrea Petrou on April 28th, 2011

Kate Middleton wants to look natural on her wedding day.

The brunette beauty will tie the knot with Prince William at London’s Westminster Abbey tomorrow (29.04.11) and while all eyes will be on her, the only person she is keen on impressing is her future husband.

So she has told her hairstylist not to stray too far from her normal look when it comes to her tresses as she wants William to recognise her.

Richard Ward – who owns the London salon responsible for styling Kate’s hair as well as her mother Carole and sister Pippa – said: “We’ve had many practice runs – and not just with Kate. The one rule is by the time she gets to the end of the altar her husband must recognise her.’

“The look will be natural.”

Richard – whose star snipper James Pryce will be the main stylist – also said he has been inundated with girls wanting their hair like Kate’s ever since her engagement was announced.

He is quoted by the Mail Online website as saying: “A lot of girls wanted it, especially a lot of Americans. We have a lot of people from America coming in. How Kate wears her hair typifies how you should be wearing your hair today, it’s a very natural look. It needs to gleam with health, it needs to shine, needs really deep rich colour.

“Kate and her family have been coming for eight years and we’ve got a relationship that goes back a long time. We’re lucky because she has amazing hair.”

Kate Middleton’s having naked dreams

By Andrea Petrou on April 27th, 2011

Kate Middleton is so stressed out about her wedding she is having a recurring nightmare of being naked in front of all her guests.

The 29-year-old brunette will marry Prince William at London’s Westminster Abbey on Friday (29.04.11) and although Kate can’t wait to tie the knot she is anxious about appearing in front of 1,900 guests and a worldwide audience of at least two billion.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Kate has the last-minute jitters and just wants the day to arrive. It’s hardly surprising considering the stage she is going to be on – with the eyes of the world on her.

“But her nerves have manifested in an interesting way. A recurring dream she hadn’t had for years has raised its head again.

“She finds herself in front of the congregation and then becomes suddenly aware she is completely naked. There is a deathly silence – and everyone from Queen Elizabeth to Prince Philip is starting at her.

“Kate has joked the worst bit is she can’t work out which parts to cover.”

Meanwhile, after spending last weekend together at the home of Kate’s parents Carole and Michael Middleton in Bucklebury, Berkshire, South East England, a nervous William and Kate will now spend their last days as singletons apart.

While Kate will remain at home before travelling to London to stay in the Goring Hotel with her family on Thursday (28.04.11), William has returned to Clarence House in London to spend time with his father Prince Charles and best man and brother Prince Harry before his big day.

A friend told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Of course they are nervous and they have been using recent time to take stock and talk each other through the day. They are very much in love and can’t wait to be married.”
