Katy Perry says her new fragrance – Meow – was inspired by her world tour

By Andrea Petrou on November 7th, 2011

Katy Perry’s new fragrance has been inspired by her world tour.

The Firework hitmaker has been working on Meow, the follow-up to her debut perfume Purr and admitted the sweetness of the scent comes from her on stage set which resembles a giant confectionary world.

She explained: “Purr to me was a little bit more floral, and Meow is a little bit more sweet. It was probably because of the California Dreams tour that it was more of the confectionary world, because everything I’ve seen for the last year has been like cotton-candy scented or huge peppermints or massive gummy bears.”

Katy also revealed she is a huge fan of singer and fashion designer Gwen Stefani because she admires the “quality” of the products she produces.

She told WWD: “I think she’s such a great example of a woman who puts out quality products associated with her name. That’s because she’s not shoving it down anyone’s throats. She has great taste, great timing and she’s got a cool style about her. I have seen a lot of the perfumes out there – some of my peers – and I’m like, ‘Did you really approve this?’ I guess I’m personally offended because maybe I do like that person’s music, but you’ve got to make quality decisions. You can’t just cash in all the time. I’ve always told anyone I’m working with that if I don’t like the product, I’m not going to show up.”

Katy Perry claims her good skin is all down to Proactiv skin care

By emilyborrett on August 2nd, 2011

The glam “Friday Night” singer Katy Perry has banished all of her skin problems for good, claiming that it is all down to Proactiv Solution skincare.

Some particularly mean paparazzi have managed to photograph the star make-up free in the past, showing off bumpy and spotty skin, but that seems to be a thing of the past. (To be honest, we can’t really that her skin was ever that bad at all, but you know.)

Katy said about her new, clear skin: “After trying every procedure, facial treatment and product I could find, I finally decided to try Proactiv. I mean, I had nothing to lose except my acne, and I was definitely okay with losing that. Since then, I’ve seen massive changes in my face and my confidence. All of my big, kind of stick-out bumps went flat, my blemishes progressively got smaller and smaller, and even some of my scarring started going away.”

We’ve always admired Katy’s smooth, clear skin, so it’s nice to know that she at least gets normal breakouts sometimes. Having said that, congratulations to the singer – now pass us the Proactiv. If it’s good enough for KP, it’s good enough for us.

Katy Perry “didn’t have a childhood” because of her strict Christian upbringing

By Andrea Petrou on May 4th, 2011

Katy Perry “didn’t have a childhood” because of her strict Christian upbringing.

The ‘Firework’ singer’s parents are evangelical Christian missionaries who wouldn’t read any book to her other than the Bible or let her listen to non-religious music, which had a huge effect on her.

Explaining how sheltered her life was by referring to a national chain of health centres, she said: “I didn’t have a childhood. Growing up, seeing Planned Parenthood, it was considered like the abortion clinic.

“I was always scared I was going to get bombed when I was there. I didn’t know it was more than that, that it was for women and their needs. I didn’t have insurance, so I went there and I learned about birth control.”

Katy, 26, added her relationship with her parents has developed, and they are more accepting of each other’s views.

She added to Vanity Fair magazine: “I think sometimes when children grow up, their parents grow up

“Mine grew up with me. We coexist. I don’t try to change them anymore, and I don’t think they try to change me.

“We agree to disagree. They’re excited about my success. They’re happy that things are going well for their three children and that they’re not on drugs, or in prison.”

Katy – who has a tattoo reading ‘Jesus’ on her left wrist – added she has always questioned her faith.

She said: “I have always been the kid who’s asked, ‘Why?’

“In my faith, you’re just supposed to have faith. But I was always like – ‘why?’

“At this point, I’m just kind of a drifter. I’m open to possibility.

“My sponge is so big and wide and I’m soaking everything up and my mind has been radically expanded.”

Katy Perry feels like a “trussed up turkey” in her onstage outfits.

By Andrea Petrou on April 28th, 2011

Katy Perry feels like a “trussed up turkey” in her onstage outfits.

The pop star wore a total of 16 different costumes on her latest tour but admitted the constant changing is not at all glamorous and she is covered in bruises and jabs from safety pins.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “There’s a bar in my quick-change area that I just hang on to and they are ripping s**t off me, screaming and swearing, betting my side will be caught in my zipper.

“My knees are messed up with scars and bruises, so I’m wearing very thick granny stockings to hide all that. There are jabs from safety pins. And certainly there’s not a lot of room for modesty when the dressers are clawing at you and watching the clock to the split second that I have to go back on.

“I’ve seen cooking shows where they are trussing up a turkey and that’s what I feel like -strings and bows and stitching up.”

Katy’s recent costumes include dresses made of cupcakes and wild feathers and a candy-coloured basque.

Jennifer Garner is a firm believer in “healthy beauty”.

By Andrea Petrou on April 12th, 2011

Jennifer Garner is a firm believer in “healthy beauty”.

The ‘Arthur’ actress was recently named as the face of Neutrogena in the UK and revealed she loves the skincare range because she is careful about protecting her face from environmental hazards.

She said: “I’ve been an ambassador for Neutrogena for a few years in the states and this is my first time in the UK. My family has been using Neutrogena since I was a little kid. I’ve two sisters, we grew up using Neutrogena and we’re big believers in healthy beauty in my family.

“I’m a huge fan of anti-oxidants and every woman out there should be! Most of the damage that happens to your skin is from environmental pollutants-the sun, the wind, pollution, indoor heating. Your skin is the first line of defence and you have to take care of it”

The new multi defence range includes a Daily Moisturiser which contains SPF25, along with a Gentle Purifying Scrub, a Night Moisturiser, Gentle Purifying Wipes and two other Daily Moisturisers with SPF15.

It was previously revealed Jennifer and her ‘Arthur’ co-star Russell Brand spent their time on set swapping beauty tips.

A source said: “Russell offered Jennifer his favourite nail polish shade, OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark and kindly bought her a bottle. Another day they were chatting about shampoos and apparently Jennifer suggested Russell cut off his long wavy locks before his wedding day to Katy Perry, so he could ‘Look back on the pictures later and not cringe.’ “

Event: What the stars wore to the 2010 EMI Grammys

By Andrea Petrou on February 1st, 2010
The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards - Backstage

It was another evening of hair, makeup, heels and glam dresses for celebrities with the EMI Grammys taking place last night.

Singers and film starlets arrived looking turned out for the 52nd annual event in Los Angeles including Rihanna, who wore a gorgeous white high neck dress complete with feathers and sparkles. Beyonce, who scooped up a wooping six awards including song of the year, best R&B song and best R&B female vocal – all for Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It), was also a winner in the style stakes wearing a plunge neck gold and white beaded dress.

And it seems white was the colour du jour for stars this year, joining Rihanna in the white stakes was R&B singer Toni Braxton, and country-pop singer Taylor Swift, who wore a white tunic style dress backstage before changing into a gorgeous sequined mermaid dress to collect her four awards.

Following the mermaid dress trend was Katy Perry who looked absolutely stunning in her sequined and organza frock next to fiance Russell Brand at the 2010 EMI Grammy Party at the W Hollywood Hotel.

Katy Perry’s West Ham basque is now on sale

By lotte on November 18th, 2009

MTV Europe Music Awards 2009 - Show Katy Perry made a touching tribute to her current squeeze Russell Brand at the MTV Europe Awards earlier this month by wearing a West Ham United basque. The corset, in the team’s colours of burgundy and blue and with badges very tastefully positioned on the bust, is now going on sale for £300, commissioned by the club following ‘huge demand’.

We’re thinking this could lead to a trend in football themed lingerie. Would you wear your boyfriend’s (or your own) team’s colours on your underwear? Or would you even go to a match in a corset like Katy’s?

The basques are made by Siobhan Dillon, and will be available exclusively through the club’s stores.
