Salma Hayek was devastated when she was banned from wearing high-heels.

By Andrea Petrou on October 26th, 2011

Salma Hayek was devastated when she was banned from wearing high-heels.

The Mexican actress tore two ligaments in her foot last year and as part of her recovery she had to forgo her beloved stilettos, a wardrobe restriction she struggled with.

During an appearance on ‘The David Letterman Show’, the 5ft 1in beauty said: “The worst part about it is you can’t wear heels. You’ve never been a Mexican short woman! This is tragic. I often say, had it not been for high heels, I would still be in Coatzacoalcos with 10 kids!”

Salma, 45, says doctors are keen for her to undergo surgery to correct her foot, but says she’s too scared to.

She revealed: “They want me to have surgery but I’m not keen. I don’t like surgery.”

And it’s not just surgery on her foot that Salma is worried about.

The 45-year-old star – who has a four-year-old daughter Valentina, with husband Francois-Henri Pinault – says cosmetic surgery gives her the “heebie-jeebies”.

She said: “When I was 16, I looked 19. When I was 19, I looked 25. But I got stuck on 25 – thank God! – until I was 35. So that was good. But it’s also important to take care of your skin because if you’re not careful, one day you’ll wake up and a spider will have taken over your face and you’ll be full of lines.

“I have no Botox. The thought of a needle coming to my forehead, it really gives me the heebie-jeebies. So I’d rather put on my creams. It’s fun, it smells good, and it’s relaxing. Am I opposed to doing it later? I don’t know. I want to see how far I can go.”

Salma Hayek says dresses are easier to style and gets praise from Demi Moore

By Andrea Petrou on October 10th, 2011

Salma Hayek: actress and creator of Nuance perfume range

Salma Hayek says dresses always make her look good quickly.

The 45-year-old actress was praised for her sense of style by good friend Demi Moore, but the ‘Puss in Boots’ star told her pal she finds it easier to pick out one garment rather than put together a whole outfit.

She said: “I was having dinner with my friend Demi – yes, that one – and she said, ‘Oh, my God! Every time I see you, you are so put together!’ And I told her it’s a lot easier to grab a fabulous little dress than to put together a whole casual outfit with jeans, a top, the right jacket, and great shoes. You slip on a dress and you can’t go wrong.”

Salma – who has a four-year-old daughter Valentina with husband Francois-Henri Pinault – also admitted that if she is in a bad mood, she heads to a beauty salon or goes shopping for new products.

She told Redbook magazine: “Get a pedicure, and if that isn’t working, go get a wax job! Sometimes a new lipstick just helps. Beauty products always cheer me up and give me hope. If it makes you feel pretty, why not?”

Style spotlight: Salma Hayek

By Elisabeth on October 7th, 2011

‘Puss in Boots’ actress Salma Hayek was recently praised by her good friend Demi More for her sense of style who told Salma she looks “so put together” every time they meet.

Salma’s trick? Dresses and more dresses. Salma said: “I told [Demi] it’s a lot easier to grab a fabulous little dress than to put together a whole casual outfit with jeans, a top, the right jacket, and great shoes. You slip on a dress and you can’t go wrong.”

We hear you Salma, come winter or summer we love dresses!

Cannes Film Festival Day one: Rachel McAdams, Aishwaraya Rai Bachchan and Lady Gaga

By Andrea Petrou on May 12th, 2011

The annual Cannes Film Festival has once again kicked off, bringing with it a range of extravagant red carpet dresses. Starting off the week of fancy frocks was Salma Hayak who went for an embellished grey frock for the opening night Premiere of “Midnight in Paris”, a far cry from the sexy Gucci leather frock she wore to the Puss in Boots photocall earlier in the day.

She was joined on the red carpet by Uma Thurman who swapped her casual white sleeved 70s frock, which she’d worn for the Cannes Jury photocall, for a stunning long white dress with a sexy split and feather detailing. Also on the red carpet was Aishwaraya Rai Bachchan who stepped out in a fitted embellished nude two piece.
Flying the flag for the more casual look was Rachel McAdams who showed off her blonde locks in a white capped sleeved frock at the Midnight in Paris photocall, while Lady Gaga went all gothic Geisha on us for her appearance at the event.

Salma Hayek: ‘creating Nuance beauty range full time job’

By shinychris on May 6th, 2011

Salma Hayek: actress and creator of Nuance beauty range

Salma Hayek felt creating her first beauty range was a “full-time job”. The Mexican actress – who created Nuance, for sale in 7,000 CVS Pharmacy stores and online – took time out from her film career to work on the collection and believes it celebrates the differences people have.

The mother-of-one said: “I took three years off my acting career to work on this.. It has been a full-time job. “Beauty is about subtle differences and the celebration of what you have.”

The 44-year-old beauty also confesses she acted like a “crazy Mexican” when dealing with suppliers for the products.

She told WWD: “When you deal with prestige suppliers there are only a couple that make the products for everyone. You are offered the cream that they didn’t already offer to Estee Lauder and [L'Oreal].

“For Nuance I am dealing with many, many labs and suppliers who are hungry for the business and who didn’t mind some crazy Mexican coming to them over and over and over again asking them to change something.”

Cannes Film Festival: Day 12 of celebrity style

By Andrea Petrou on May 24th, 2010

It’s been nearly a fortnight of celebrity style, gorgeous dresses and stunning hair and make-up, but one of the biggest celebrity events of the year finally wound down over the weekend.

A-listers packed their bags, took of those frocks and headed back to LA to most probably recover from the 12 days of partying and pampering during the Cannes 2010 Film Festival.

However, as we expected many of them decided to leave in a burst of more stunning dresses. Kate Beckinsale used the closing day of Cannes to show off in a black structured fishtail dress complete with sheer panels while Kirsten Dunst, who had previously played it safe in a black Chanel dress, going for an on-trend turquoise capped sleeved and high neck frock for the same event.

Diane Kruger went for a fuscia pink and black number while Milla Jovovich opted for a mix of smocking and layering for her dress at The Exodus Burnt by the Sun premier.

However it was Salma Hayek, who was the first to wear a dress by Gucci Couture on the first day of the Cannes Festival, that really blew us away with her gorgeous pink floor length gown at the closing ceremony.

Cannes Day 9: Get the look- Penelope Cruz’s red dress

By Andrea Petrou on May 20th, 2010

Penelope Cruz Cannes Auction.jpg

Penelope Cruz stepped out during day 9 of the Canne’s film festival to host an auction in aid of the Jenkins-Penn Haitian relief organisation.

The spanish actress stepped out in a gorgeous red wrap dress and silver shoes to mark the occasion, which aims to raise funds by auctioning off star’s dresses. And one celeb that really came up trump is Salma Hayek who donated the first ever Gucci Couture dress, which she wore to day one of the Cannes film festival.

However, we feel we’ve spoken enough about Salma so we decided to have a trawl around to see if we could find a frock similar to Pen’s at of course, a highstreet price. And we did. Now it’s not exactly the same, but the neckline and length are almost identical to Ms Cruz’s. It’s from Very and we think it’s a steal at £59.

Team it up with flats for a day in the office or with heels and accessories for a night out.

Salma Hayek wears the first ever Gucci Couture dress to the Cannes Film Festival 2010

By Andrea Petrou on May 13th, 2010

Salma Hayek red carpet Gucci.jpg

Salma Hayek’s one very lucky lady. The actress who is married to Francois-Henri Pinault, head of the PPR group which owns Gucci, Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent has been given the ultimate fashion privilege – to wear the first ever Gucci Couture dress.

And what better place to wear it than to the Cannes film festival 2010.

We reported on rumours of the brand’s new venture back in January, but until now we’ve seen no concrete evidence. However it seems the company has been working behind the scenes with this one and one thing’sfor sure; now that Salma’s started the trend, celebrities will be out in this designer range too. But will they look as stunning as Salma? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Oscar 2010 after party fashion face off: Salma Hayek Vs Milla Jovovich

By Andrea Petrou on March 9th, 2010

Salma Hayek Elton.jpg

Although the actual Oscar’s typically see celebrities opt for long (or in Amanda Seyfried’s case, bridal) dresses, after parties are more likely to be sprinkled with a more casual feel with less beading and shorter frocks.

Milla Jovovich Elton.jpg

Two such celebs that went for this style at the18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards were Milla Jovovich and Salma Hayek, who at first glance we thought were wearing the same dress (maybe we need a new pair of glasses).

However at closer inspections we realised that Milla went for a strappy mosaic printed number while Salma took the little dress look to a new level, opting for a satin capped sleeved frock with a structured skirt.

We think both look gorgeous (although with that puffy skirt we can imagine Salma would fit nicely over a few loo rolls), but can’t quite decide who wore it best. So we need your help.

Let us know who you think won the fashion face off by leaving your comments below.

ShinyStyle Golden Globes Gallery: Pretty in pastels

By Kimberley Foster on January 12th, 2009

Dark hues may have been the choice for many starlets, but the Golden Globes were also awash with pastels too. Anyone might have thought it was spring by the way some celebs wore their pretty pale colours. Nudes, soft pinks, pale yellows and blues dominated as the likes of Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore and Salma Hayek took their turns in front of the cameras. [Photos: Jim Smeal/BEI/Rex Features]
