There’s no doubt about it, whether we like it or not, the royals, politician’s wives and politicians themselves have a huge impact on our style.
Whatever highstreet number Kate Middleton wears sells out in seconds, while her inlaw Zara Phillips shows us that casual can be cool.
We’re hot on Michelle Obama’s style, and Samantha Cameron’s love of Erdam and patterns also shapes the way some of us dress.
Then there’s the politicians that we thought would never feature in an influential top five. And in this case we’re talking about Sarah Palin.
We never thought this middle aged politician’s uniform high waisted skirts and satin blouses would make the grade but it seems this style, plus her love of all outdoorsy wear has hit a fashion note with the nation – well they do say fashion is fickle.
Victoria Beckham not only won our best dressed award but was also recognised for her talent at the British fashion Awards.
The starlet who turned up in a long black frock, was awarded the Designer Brand award for her brand and the progress it has made.
Meanwhile Alexa Chung who turned up in a silver embellished round neck frock was awarded the British Style award for the second year running.
Kate Moss was also at the event dressed in a questionable mix between a string vest and fishntet type black frock, while Abbey Clancy also made a mistake in an ill fitting cream frock.
Rocking the black dresses were McQueen designer Sarah Burton and Samantha Cameron as well as Kate Hudson who went for a panelled frock.

Emma Watson has been named the world’s best-dressed woman.
The 21-year-old actress, who has previously been a UK Vogue cover girl and is the face of Lancome make-up, beat Cheryl Cole – last year’s number one – to the top spot in a list by Glamour magazine.
Fashion designer Victoria Beckham dropped seven places in the list to 15th, although Beyonce Knowles suffered the biggest slide from ninth last year to 36th.
Among the surprising entries are Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter Suri, who despite being just five years old was said by the magazine to have “the most covetable wardrobe in Hollywood”.
British prime minister David Cameron’s wife Samantha – who caused controversy by being among the only female guests at the wedding of Prince William and Princess Catherine on Friday to not wear a hat – was among the newcomers at number 19.
The full list was compiled by over 15,000 votes on Glamour.com, and will appear in the June issue of the magazine.
See the gallery below for the ladies that came in the top ten.
Celebrities are announcing pregnancies and giving birth faster than you can say stork.
Samantha Cameron gave birth earlier this month while the year has been filled with announcements from the likes of Danielle Lloyd, and most recently Lily Allen and Miranda Kerr.
However, while these lovely ladies may still be expecting, others such as Dannii Minogue and Claudia Schiffer are now experiencing the joys of motherhood with their bundles of joy. They join yummy mummies including Posh, Myleene Klass, Katie Price (come on we’ll give her a yummy mummy nod) and Angelina Jolie who come under the yummy mummy category.
We’ve put together a gallery of pregnant celebrities and yummy mummies.
It’s the list we’ve been waiting for.Vanity Fair’s 2010 International Best Dressed line-up and of course some of our British fashionista’s made the cut, which in the past has commended the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy, showing it’s serious style stuff.
This year Samantha Cameron got her fashion foot in the door and also made history by being the first visibly pregnant lady to make the list. She was joined by Michelle Obama and of course French President’s wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.
And some of our own British film starlets made it in too. Carey Mulligan’s choice of quirky designer looks and styles put her in the list for the first time and Helena Bonham Carter also got a place (it seems we were wrong to put her on our worst dressed lists). Over in the US Lady Gaga also got herself a place on the list, we can’t say we’re really surprised.

Politician’s wives are becoming nearly as famous as their other halves across the fashion world. The dowdy outfits donned by these supportive female figures have been binned and replaced by must-have wardrobe labels such as Erdem (a favourite of Sarah Brown) Calvin Klein (as worn by Michelle Obama) and even Marks and Spencer (who can forget Samantha Cameron’s polka dot dress).
And as they become more and more popular, the media world is alight with news of Samantha Cameron’s pregnancy, the fashion spotlight on these women becomes bigger.
Rarely a day goes by without some comment about Michelle Obama’s latest outfit hitting the news wires and Sarah Brown has thrown herself into the fashion world, becoming an iconic figure of many high profile events. She jointly opened London Fashion Week this year (we were there to see it and we have to admit her speech was inspiring) appeared at the Elle Style awards and also held a reception for the Cosmopolitan Women Of The Year at Downing Street.
However, as in any industry there’s always the quiet dark horse, and it’s no different here with Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg‘s wife Miriam Gonzalez staying out of the fashion spotlight.
However, although she may not be fashion forward Mrs Clegg knows exactly how to dress. She’s appeared alongside the MP on various occasions in stylish frocks, and even donned the braces look for one event, which we think is slightly daring but works incredibly well.
With four stylish women who all do a great job of promoting fashion and keeping in with political values we’re a little bit torn as to who to award the fashion crown to.
So once again we’ve decided to leave it to you. View the gallery below and then vote in the ballot box to tell us who you think is the most stylish. And if there’s anything else you want to say, tell us by leaving your comments in the box below.
Politician’s wives are fast becoming a popular topic of conversation in the fashion world as they move into the limelight.
We’ve analysed many a politician’s wife in the past from Michelle Obama to Cherie Blair and now we’ve turned our attention to Conservative leader David Cameron’s missus Samantha.
At the Tory Conference today, where her husband tackled the difficult issue of the national debt, his supportive wife stepped out in a £65 Marks & Spencer dress and Zara heels. This is a far cry from the £600 Erdem dress and £300 Jimmy Choo heels she wore to introduce her husband at the Labour Party Conference.
We love the polka dot style look of this outfit, which we think shows a solidarity to us women, who have depended on the high street in these current times.
But we want to know what you think. Do you like this look and do you see Mrs Cameron replacing Michelle Obama in the fashion stakes? Or do you think politician’s wives are still looking as dowdy as ever?
Apart from, of course, Nicholas Sarkozy’s wife Carla Bruni who looks stunning in everything she wears, but we have to remember she did have head start being top model.
