Last week we showed you 10 gifts under $100 (and 20 under $200 the week before that!) but now it’s time for our biggest and cheapest gift list yet. Check out the first ten items in our 50 under $50 roundup. Done your shopping? This doubles as a wish list for post-Christmas sales.
This year, we know everyone is all about the budget shopping. So we’re compiling four mega gift lists made up entirely of items that cost less than $200. This week is 20 gifts under $200, and the lists will become less expensive as the holidays approach and your money starts running out! Look out for 10 gifts under $100 next week, followed by 50 gifts under $50 and 10 gifts under $10 to fill up those stockings the week before Christmas.
What’s the gift under $200 that’s going to start us off? The Snow-Filled Sky Scarf from Anthropologie, $42. Whimsical and warm, we can’t think of a lady in our lives who wouldn’t love this colorful wool scarf.
Here in the States the reception towards Comme des Garcon for H&M may have been a little lukewarm, compared to the Tokyo reaction, but that didn’t stop tempers from flaring at the New York launch. Two shoppers let their determination to own one of the polka dot scarves get the better of them, resulting in a tug of war breaking out inside the store. Watched on by amused crowds, the pair fought openly for the scarf until a shop assistant was forced to intervene. Who said shopping wasn’t a competitive sport? Click play above to watch.
Also available in beige and olive, the style mimicks the ombre fabrics so popular this season. At only $11.99 it’s a great piece to punch up a casual outfit.
While scarves are a good way to get a little piece of a luxury brand, like Hermes, they can also be cheapie accessories that allow you to switch up your look to stock up on.
Obviously, the two scarves at left, from Target for $8.99, aren’t made of silk – more like polyester. But the color combinations could be really great for spring, especially with a white top or dress.
I’m always impressed with the cute prints and wide variety of scarves at Target, they’re usually by the belts. So be sure to peruse the selection next time you’re there.
If the word cashmere is mentioned, our ears perk up. When our ears hear YumYum, we tend to think of cupcakes. But the cashmere YumYum from TDM Design isn’t for eating, it’s for keeping cozy.
The soft, colorful neck warmers can supposedly be worn as an accessory as seen above, but we don’t see ourselves wearing them indoors anytime soon. We much prefer them layered with another scarf or on their own as outerwear. They’re great for reducing bulk if you don’t want a chunky knit monstrosity wrapped around your neck.
Handmade in Nepal by women working together in cottage industries, the YumYums come in a wide variety of vibrant colors and cost $45.
Fashion expert Blair Lake shows you how to spice up a plain outfit for four very different looks using only accessories. The first trendy look is a big green and gold statement necklace with a large black cuff and large green gemstone ring. Another haute style is to wear shiny patent leather pumps and big, bright satchel. Or dress more casual chic with a winter hat (especially in right now is the Sony) and matching scarf around the neck, waist or handbag. The final look is my personal favorite–metallic over-sized clutch and flat knee-high boots. Make any outfit pop this season with these fabulous accessories!
We decided to raid Bluefly’s Cold Weather Shop for some discount winter fashions to create a casual look for keeping warm. We chose a muted, but still colorful outfit with blues and grays and a pop of red. The coat is Kenneth Cole Reaction, $168, and we like the seaming at the waist of the wool spread collar topper. Underneath that you can wear this $78 Design History sweater. In a silk-cashmere knit, this crossover V-neck drapes elegantly down from a pleated nape. The rosette and leaf appliques on the $37 Portolano gloves provide interest on the muted loden. You can keep this embroidered teal Elizabeth Gillett scarf, $64, on to prevent a chill in that V-neck once indoors. On top? A red cashmere Portolano beret for $27.
Coach has always been an excellent source for no-fail elegant handbags, but I truly am loving their new line of accessories, especially their new scarves for fall. Tie it ’round your neck, your waist, and even on your bag. Coach’s newest, Ergo, offers a stitched patchwork neckerchief among its luxurious line. It’s 22×22 inches and is a cool $58. Shown here in Bordeaux, and also comes in Khaki, it is made of imported silk twill for a glossy texture. Check out my favorite Coach store at 445 West Broadway in New York.
New Zealand-native Karen Walker surely knows how to style an outfit. This fall, her models glided down the runway in clothing reminiscent of the Great Depression–loose men’s pants, jackets with shoulder pads, printed blouses, and hats or head wraps. The looks were eclectic, but still well put-together with bursts of color paired with muted tones. The look above from the runway show is all about length and proportion. Long pants and a long shirt are balanced with wide shoulders and head scarf.
