Everyone knows this is THE big shopping weekend–kicking off the holiday shopping the day after Thanksgiving, a.k.a. Black Friday. I’ve often wondered the reason for this name, so I Wickipedia’d it. It says, “‘Black Friday’ was originally so named because of the heavy traffic on that day, although most contemporary uses of the term refer instead to it as the beginning of the period in which retailers are in the black (i.e., turning a profit).” So that’s that, in case you were interested. Now on to the sales–continue over to the jump!

Running around day and night will destroy your favorite shoes! I empathize…we want to protect our pricey collection of stilletos. Well, now you can with Smart Heels; a clever way of maintaining the heels of your Jimmy Choos or Manolo Blahniks without endless trips to the shoemaker. Smart Heels slip onto the heel of your shoe, protecting them against nicks, tears and sidewalk cracks. Slip on the plastic cover while traveling to your destination and slip off when you arrive. It’s really so easy! They are $9.95 a pair and available in either black or clear at Smart Heels. I think it’s time we all get “smarter” about our shoes. Afterall, you know what they say: “You can tell a lot about someone by looking at their shoes!”

Handbags

On last weeks Oprah show, Cindy Crawford said that she likes designers before they go mainsteam. But after her segment, it’s certain that Italian bag designer Mauro Zagliani might be getting pretty close to mainstream. It looks like Crawford and J. Lo aren’t the only ones clamoring for this costly tote. Saks, the exclusive retailer has reported that the darker Python style featured on the show is a goner! Completly sold out, Saks is only taking pre-orders on the lighter Metallic color which retails for $2800. So, if you want the bag, high price tag and all, you better get to Saks soon. Otherwise, you’ll be forced to hang on to your $2800. Hmmm…is that such a bad thing?

Official jobs come with an official tittle: publicist, housewife, hairdresser, assistant, etc. But often our jobs make us feel worn down or burdened with unofficial responsibilites. Paulina Haddad’s sterling silver and leather ID bracelts and necklaces express exactly what those burdens can sometimes feel like. Double-sided tags feature a single word on each side. Parings include “actor/Waiter” (pictured) “Mother/Publicist”, “Hairdresser/Therapist”, “Assistant/Maid”, “Dad/ATM”,
“Model/Starving” and more. These fun quirky ID tags make the perfect gift. Find them at Fred Segal. Prices range from $63-$240 depending on style.
