Fall accessories are catching our eye – the Sak Dakota hobo

By Andrea Thatcher on August 1st, 2007

dakota%20the%20sak.jpg

Luxe leather hasn’t exactly been synonymous with the Sak in the past, but maybe it will be in the future. The line is definitely increasing it’s leather line, with more fashion-forward designs like this Dakota hobo. Zipper and strap details add interest without going too far, and we really love this rich “luggage” maroon color. At $139 it’s definitely pricier than other Sak options as well, but it’s worth it for the superior style.

Fendi transforming To You bag—a happy hour must-have

By Andrea Thatcher on July 29th, 2007

Work-hard, play-hard fashionistas—get ready! Silvia Venturini Fendi’s life-changing creation, the transforming To You bag, comes out in stores in September. It’s a chic shoulder bag by day that folds into a trendy clutch by night. Perfect as a handbag for both the workplace and a night on the town, this is a great accessory for those who don’t have time to run home to change between calling it quits at the office and meeting friends for drinks. The size seems just large enough to fit your wallet, cell phone, camera, and lip gloss, while still able to pass for a sleek, under-arm clutch. Plus, its unique ’70s geometric design features an array of colors to complement almost any outfit. The only thing is: to afford it, you might have to work overtime that much more… But, if you love it as much as I do, don’t wait too long—it’ll only be available in select stores.

Exclusive Stuart Weitzman shoes at Scoop NYC

By Andrea Thatcher on July 27th, 2007

quilted%20pump.jpg

Scoop NYC is launching new fall shoes by Stuart Weitzman, exclusively for the store, and they’re up on the site now! The range is a great way to get Stuart Weitzman designs for a bit lower than their usual price. The quilted peep toe pumps at left go for $295. True, they may not look like quite the same quality of design and craftsmanship that you might get at a Stuart Weitzman boutique, but they’re definitely stylish for the season and I’d personally keep these in my repertoire beyond their allotted trendiness. I love the classic vampiness of them. Don’t forget to cash in on free shipping on any Stuart Weitsman for Scoop pair – just use the code SWF07 at checkout.

By Andrea Thatcher on July 27th, 2007

Carolyn%20Murphy.jpg

She’s certainly got the legs for it! California beauty Carolyn Murphy is set to star in the first print campaign for denim favorites 7 For All Mankind. The ads were shot at LA’s Roosevelt Hotel by Patrick Demarchelier, and costar Tyson Ballou. A company rep says the fall-winter collection is infused with sophistication and all-American glamour. The campaign will also be our first look at 7 For All Mankind shoes and accessories, which Carolyn is surely already enjoying, lucky!

Lindsay Lohan sports an Ella Moss maxi-dress earlier this week

By Andrea Thatcher on July 26th, 2007

While the maxi dress is everywhere this summer, there’s been some question as to whether or not the petite girl can really rock the style. I think Lindsay Lohan lays that debate to rest with a resounding yes in this Ella Moss Ursula dress, $178. Of course it helps if you have Lindsay’s thin frame, though we do not recommend her rumored appetite suppressant. This is honestly the best I’ve seen Lindsay looking in a long time, and it’s a shame that the stylish moment came only days before her latest arrest. While the specific dress seems to have sold out (surprise) various versions of the Ursula dress are sold at Shopbop and Revolve Clothing.

We’ve chosen our favorites of the bunch to punch up your late-summer wardrobe and provide layering pieces for fall. Details after the jump.

Yay or Nay: Suspenders

By Andrea Thatcher on July 25th, 2007

Agyness.jpg

Suspenders. They’re cute on the very young – think your toddler cousin in his best OshKosh B’Gosh – and the very old – Santa. But what about those in between? Does model Agyness Deyn pull of the look, above, at the British Fashion Council Fashion Forward party? It certainly is fashion forward, and works for Deyn’s lythe frame with the vintage shirt and slim Preen trousers. And hey, it got her on Vogue’s best dressed list. Have you tried to rock the look? Let us know if you love it or hate it and why in the comments below.

Desinger POTW: Patent leather cropped city jacket by 3.1 Phillip Lim

By Andrea Thatcher on July 24th, 2007

Phillip%20lim%20runway.jpg

Take this look straight from the runway! A cropped, black leather jacket is a style staple, and the patent leather finish on this version from 3.1 Phillip Lim keeps the too cool topper modern. Which makes it a perfect Designer Pick of the Week.

Phillip%20lim%20jacket.jpg

While La Garconne, who sells the jacket for $794, recommends pairing the piece with dresses or jeans for work or play, we think this would make a great signature item. If it suits your frame – long and lean or evenly proportioned – or if you want to minimize a larger-on-top figure, wear it with everything!

Get ready for a revamped Lord & Taylor

By Andrea Thatcher on July 23rd, 2007

Lord%20and%20Taylor%20ad.jpg

If you’re anything like me, you mostly venture into Lord & Taylor for a bonus gift event at your favorite makeup counter, an end-of-season sale on Ralph Lauren sweaters or a Christmas gift for your grandmother. But the mid-range retailer is looking to get you in stores and on their Web site more often with a $10 million image campaign. The overhaul is more about branding the store as a more modern destination for classic fashions than getting you to buy one specific item, according to WWD, and they swear they’re not trying to go too young and hip.

MARC by Marc Jacobs fall collection video and shopping spree contest on Neiman Marcus Web site

By Andrea Thatcher on July 23rd, 2007

Marc%20Jacobs.jpg

Check out the new fall fashions from MARC by Marc Jacobs on NeimanMarcus.com and you can enter to win a $1,500 shopping spree. Don’t be fooled, no purchase is necessary, click on the fine print at the bottom of the page to enter the contest. Also check out their exclusive video. It’s basically a moving catalog with a few attempts at arty touches, but it’s definitely worth while to see how a garment – like the multi-print jersey dress above, $328 - moves and looks “in person” rather than just a still photograph.
