By Andrea Thatcher on November 1st, 2007

clclichy.jpg

Leave it to Christian Louboutin to tap into devilish styles just in time for holiday season; this year’s debut of the Clichy Painted Pumps are a fresh take on conventional styles, a splash of graffiti for a traffic-stopping look in bold red. The pumps feature a comfortable almond shaped toe and tiptoe-inducing 4″ heels. Paired with a simple black dress by night, this one’s ready to create a scene; also available in a luscious (but plain) plum color:

Playful shoes with hidden wedges by 80%20

By Andrea Thatcher on November 1st, 2007

8020.jpg

Designer Ce Ce Chin was fed up with wearing sneakers designed by mega brands. The shoes were made for men, but were supposed to fit women’s slender feet as well. Of course, they didn’t. Chin decided to create a line of footwear based on the sneaker aesthetic, but made for a woman’s foot.

Named after the theory that we wear twenty-percent of our wardrobe eighty-percent of the time, she wanted to create a line that would fit into that twenty-percent. The line includes boots and sneakers, many with hidden wedges that give the wearer a major height boost without giving away the trick.

Shoes the new artists’ medium with TOMS Shoes at Fred Segal

By Andrea Thatcher on October 31st, 2007

TOMS%20shoes.jpg

Six artists recently unveiled their original designs for TOMS Shoes at the Hollywood-hip Fred Segal. Each participant was given 12-15 pairs to embellish with their artistry, which will sell for $75-$150. “I want to allow people to express themselves through their TOMS,” said company founder Blake Mycoskie. “Toms are canvas, so why not get artists to start painting them so they can express themselves through Toms?” Not only does TOMS support the arts, but for every pair of shoes sold, they donate a pair to needy children.

Bootleg Booties: Christian Louboutin vs. Steve Madden

By Andrea Thatcher on October 30th, 2007

Bootleg%20booties.jpg

It’s easy to spot which bootie above is real and which is fake based on the red Louboutin give-away soles (not to mention the telltale gray Saks background). But if you just saw them walking down the street it might actually be kind of hard to tell! Steve Madden is unquestionably getting much more brazen with their copies, seeming to focus on elite footwear designs like Miu Miu and Christian Louboutin. Plus, Madden ups the stakes by offering many of the copies, like this Steve Madden Becks bootie, $149.95, in 10 different colors. So if you love the Christian Louboutin Miss Fred Tacco boots, $695, but don’t like the contrast piping you can experiment with colors like ruby and gray.

Neimans has new Manolos for resort

By Andrea Thatcher on October 29th, 2007

Manolo%20resort.jpg

I guess if you can afford Manolo Blahniks there’s actually a good chance that you require a resort wardrobe for the winter. These babies actually run $565 – $665 which is comparatively more affordable than many high-end heels these days. With retailers predicting slow holiday spending, maybe these prices are meant to coerce luxury spenders into buying more. Keep reading for the details on each shoe.

Miu Miu’s famous colorblocks go neutral with this brogue-style pump

By Andrea Thatcher on October 26th, 2007

Miu%20Miu%20pumps.jpg

I’ve been drawn more and more to neutrals lately, and these Miu Miu pumps are a fun way to do a neutral look that’s in no danger of being boring. There’s plenty of beige to this shoe, it’s true, but it’s jazzed up with exciting texture, crystals on the heel, and a soft pink on the toe. I like that the crystals do go around to the side of the shoe so they’re not just visible from behind, but are sure to catch eyes from all angles. Such a traditional shoe is a great way to get away with the sparkle for a more buttoned up occasion. As they’re $720, guess I’m going to have to wait for Nine West to copy them.

Claudia Ciuti discusses the “it” quest and shows us her new collection

By Andrea Thatcher on October 25th, 2007

Accessories designer Claudia Ciuti, best known for her stylish, ladylike shoes in amazing Italian materials, invited us into her showroom during New York Fashion Week to chat and check out her upcoming collection. The spring line puts a lot of focus on shine with pearlized, metalllic or metalized leathers and/or silicone finishes. The shoes are, as Claudia puts it “100% not made in China” and 100% made in Italy, where Claudia grew up, learned the family shoe business and went to fashion school. Her family connections give her access to the best tanneries, heel makers, and manufacturers in Italy, with whom she can collaborate on the best colors and leathers, and exchange ideas. “I can walk into these places and learn the newest leathers and finishes and even make modifications,” she said. Continue reading for a look at shoes from the spring line and more from Claudia.
