Yay or Nay Wednesday: overalls

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on March 26th, 2008

trouser overalls.jpg

Overalls are a joke, right? They look more ridiculous in old TLC videos than the “birth control” sunglasses do, and poor Jillian was caught wearing them just a couple months ago on Project Runway. So if they’re so ridiculous why do people keep making them?

Alice + Olivia dress on sale at shopbop

By Andrea Thatcher on January 29th, 2008

Alice%20%2B%20Olivia%20dress.jpg

Browsing the Shopbop sale, as we are wont to do, we came across this Alice + Olivia diamond shift dress on sale for only $89.10 – that’s more than half off! Only a size large is still available, but given the cinched waist, straight fit and designers’ habit for cutting small, we think a medium would fit into this fine. Layer it and you have a professional yet stylish look for work, just be sure to wear tights and flats to keep the mini from being too sexy.

How to take summer sale items into fall – our top 5 from Shopbop

By Andrea Thatcher on October 9th, 2007

shopbop%20sale%20favorites.jpg

We’ve chosen our top 5 favorites from the Shopbop sale with an eye on items that can be worn into fall, since most discounts this time of year are obviously on summer items. With discounts up to 70% off it’s worth the extra creativity. The dress on the left, in a very on-trend color for fall, is from Karen Zambos Vintage Couture for only $99. Luckily, layering is still in, so throw a cardigan over this baby and you have a cute casual look. The dress on the right, from Ella Moss Black Label, is decidedly less casual. On sale for $190 this is a cute number for a date, night out, or semi-dressy event. Keep reading to find out more about the accessories!

Puffy jackets for fall and winter

By Andrea Thatcher on October 5th, 2007

puffy%20jackets.JPG
The term “puffy” might send you reeling for your covers, filling you with a desire to hide for the day. Puffy under eyes, puffy hair, well, most anything puffy is bad. Except for this season’s puffy coats. Say goodbye to the floor-length marshmallow coats you’d only find at sporting goods stores. This season, designers are showing how being warm doesn’t mean being dowdy. This Add Down puffer wrap jacket (left) is chic in this season’s in-color gray and sleek paired with its leather belt, available at Shopbop.com for $361. Or check out this Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent cropped puff jacket (right), for $210 at Bluefly.com.

Lindsay Lohan sports an Ella Moss maxi-dress earlier this week

By Andrea Thatcher on July 26th, 2007

Lindsay%20Lohan%20in%20Ella%20Moss%20dress2%5B1%5D.jpg

While the maxi dress is everywhere this summer, there’s been some question as to whether or not the petite girl can really rock the style. I think Lindsay Lohan lays that debate to rest with a resounding yes in this Ella Moss Ursula dress, $178. Of course it helps if you have Lindsay’s thin frame, though we do not recommend her rumored appetite suppressant. This is honestly the best I’ve seen Lindsay looking in a long time, and it’s a shame that the stylish moment came only days before her latest arrest. While the specific dress seems to have sold out (surprise) various versions of the Ursula dress are sold at Shopbop and Revolve Clothing.
