Paris Fashion Week highlights: Anthony Vaccarello

By Andrea Petrou on September 29th, 2010

It’s been a busy month for fashionista as the various fashion weeks have taken them from New York to London and to Milan. However as Milan Fashion Week came to an end the fashion crowd were packing their bags and heading off in the direction of France for Paris Fashion Week.

Staring yesterday, the 9-day event will be host to 91  catwalk shows to keep the fashion crowd alert. Day one, which was yesterday, saw a few collections from up-and-coming designers like Aganovich, from London, and Anthony Vaccarello who was targeted by Vogue’s influential September issue.

And we have to say we were impressed with the latters designs.

Vaccarello sent his models down the catwalk in classic Parisian chic. Asymmetric structured dresses in black and black frock flounced down the catwalk alongside risque sheer styles that showed off more than a little bit of cleavage.

There were also backless bodices as well as rouched mini skirts and open blazers with nothing underneath. We need to be hitting that gym if we want to be wearing these designs next season.

Keep reading as we’ll be bringing you all the gossip from Balenciaga, Balmain, Celine and Givenchy – who will all be showing off their new creations here as well as Giles Deacon who is  showcasing his first collection for Ungaro. Jean-Paul Gaultier willalso  reveal his last ever collection for Hermes, before he hands over to Christophe Lemaire. It’s going to be very exciting.

Milan Fashion Week Highlights: Fendi

By Andrea Petrou on September 24th, 2010

Milan Fashion Week’s chic designer style continued yesterday as Fendi marched its models down the designer catwalk.

The styles were fresh, giving a nod to the 70s with loose shirts, floral embroidery and wide legged light denim jeans.

Lantern sleeves on roomy long shirtdresses and blouses that buttoned up the arm, displayed bold colors — purple, turquoise, red and peach — and there were also a fair share of kimonos.

We can’t wait to get our hands on some of these creations. However  with the highstreet copying these styles next season there may just be thousands of clones of  Timotei beauties (come on you all remember those 70s styled adverts).

NYFW highlights: Tommy Hilfiger SS2011

By Andrea Petrou on September 15th, 2010

With New York Fashion Week drawing to a sad close we thought it was about time we gave a little nod to some of the trends that have come from the catwalks so far. So we’ve decided to pick out some of our favourite highlights. First up is of course Tommy Hilfiger who celebrated his 25 anniversary with a celeb fuelled party (if you missed all the pictures from this click here).

And his designs were just as amazing. The designer stuck to a red/white/blue theme, which was worked into cotton tweed shorts suits, or a navy and white bow-bra with a red, pleated mini-kilt.

And he didn’t forget his preppy roots either. Cream oversized cricket sweaters trimmed with red, and of course the classic mac was transformed right into Hilfiger SS2011 style, graced the catwalk. Pleated skirts, long, slinky silk jersey gowns, featuring cut-outs or bow-ties at the back were all little treats we can probably expect to see channelled on the highstreet next year.

Gallery: Spring/summer hats

By Andrea Petrou on April 8th, 2010

The sun is shining and the first few hints of summer are showing through. We know that many of you are sitting at your desks wishing you could bask in that sun (we’re definitely wishing we were in a park with a picnic) and we’re praying as much as you that the weather continues into the weekend.

However, with the sun comes spring/summer fashion and one trend which is going to be huge this season, is hats.

These appeared across the SS2010 LFW catwalk with designers such as Mulberry and Vivienne Westwood making straw and trilby hats a key focal point in their collections.

So we’ve decided to put together a gallery of the best summer hats out there, which will not only keep you looking on-trend but also last right through to your summer holiday.

Team up with cropped jeans, denim shorts and a ethical style tee for that casual summer look or dress them up with a maxi dress for nights out in a restaurant or bar.

Manolo Blahnik talks about his SS2010 collection

By Andrea Petrou on March 1st, 2010

Manolo SS2010.jpg
We couldn’t mention Sex and The City and ignore Manolo Blahnik, especially after news of his latest creations are making a bit of a splash in the fashion world today.

The shoe designer has spoken about his Spring collection, which has been inspired by a range of things including the flats by Audrey Hepburn, some of the stilettos by old Hollywood glamour, some of the adornments by Spanish architecture, and one style even by Einstein’s tongue.

“My favourite style is the Gloton in polkadot,” Blahnik told VOGUE.COM. “This is a great summer shoe, which I have always loved, and variations of it have always featured in my collections…..It brings a smile to my face when I look at it and I hope it will do the same to women when they put the shoe on.”

Mr Blahnik we guarantee we’ll be smiling like Cheshire cats from the minute we touch any of your gorgeous footwear.

Stella McCartney uses old and new for her SS2010 campaign

By Andrea Petrou on February 2nd, 2010

Stella and Natalie.jpg

We’ve known for a while that Stella McCartney was a genius (you only have to look at her designs to see it). However, just when we thought she couldn’t get anymore creative, she’s wowed us all over again.

For her new spring/summer 2010 campaign the designer has incorporated a picture of her old pet dalmatian, which was taken by her mother in 1976, with the clothes from her latest collection modelled by Natalia Vodianova.

Stella said the new campaign was: “Fashion meets reportage, mixing color, and black-and-white. A family animal with an outside atmosphere meets studio lights, camera, action!”

First Looks: Tilda Swinton for Pringle

By Andrea Petrou on January 20th, 2010

Tilda.jpgAs you know, many designers are now picking up celebrities to front their campaigns. This has led to many sultry shots, think Emma Watson for Burberry and Madonna for D&G, and while we don’t have a problem with this, it’s always nice to have a bit of a change.

Cue Pringle’s new SS2010 campaign. Although the brand has gone for an actress, it’s decided to pick Tilda Swinton who is well known for her sense of humour and fun.

The actress who played the ice queen in the Lion, witch and the Wardrobe apparently went “wild” at the shoot photographed by Ryan McGinley and if this picture is anything to go by we can’t wait to see the rest of this fun campaign.

First looks: Fendi opts for traditional model for its SS2010 advertising campaign

By Andrea Petrou on January 18th, 2010

Fendi.jpgIt seems that photographing models in gardens for SS2010 has become the style du jour.

Louis Vuitton started this trend getting model Lara Stone to pose in various garden shots for its upcoming campaign and the first glimpse of the new Fendi campaign shows this design house is following.

However, unlike many brands who have opted for celebrities to front their campaigns (we’re talking to you D&G) Fendi has gone down the traditional route hiring polish beauty Anja Rubik.

We think she strikes a gorgeous look in one of the first pictures shot by Karl Lagerfeld and we can’t wait to get our hands on the rest.

Emma Watson poses alongside her brother Alex for Burberry’s SS2010 campaign

By Andrea Petrou on January 6th, 2010

Emma Watson.jpg

There’s something magic about Emma Watson, and were not talking about her role in Harry Potter. It seems everything she touches, is a success and this time the spell has fallen on her younger brother Alex Watson, who has made his modelling debut in Burberry’s spring ad campaign alongside Emma who will be fronting the brand for the second time.

According WWD, chief creative officer Christopher Bailey met Alex through Emma, and “loved their dynamic, their brother and sister energy,” so he decided to take a chance and use him in the campaign.

We think the brother and sister duo cut striking figures against the 18th-century townhouse theme, and its clear this year’s womens trends are set to continue along the lines of big shoulders.

The campaign also features musicians George Craig and Matt Gilmour, the son of Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, and Max Hurd, a grandson of Douglas Hurd, Britain’s foreign secretary under British Prime Ministers Margaret Thatcher and John Major.

Victoria Beckham launches S/S 2010 range

By Andrea Petrou on October 5th, 2009

Victoria B ss2010.jpgUnlike Lindsay Lohan, it seems Victoria Beckham most definitely made her mark at Fashion Week with sharp tailored clothing, that we, or any other fashion critics , can’t fault.

The pop star, Wag and all round fashionista, known better for her jeans range, showed off a range of tailored slinky dresses, which we’re sure you’ll agree are gorgeous.

However, to fit into these you’ll need to be small. We think that our gym membership may need to be renewed.
