Most stylish handbag: Vivienne Westwood Derby bag (£500)
Consumers are becoming more aware and concerned about the origins of the products in their wardrobe, and fake fur, cruelty-free fabrics and pleather are fast becoming the go-to materials for those wanting to enjoy the latest fashion with a clean conscience. And everyone from high-street retailers such as Topshop and French Connection to high end designers like Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney are meeting consumer demand for animal-free fashion.
Animal welfare organisation PETA is recognising the best cruelty-free contributions to the fashion world with a new awards – the first ever PETA-approved Vegan Fashion Awards. The 2013 winners, which include French Connection (gadget accessory) and New Look (women’s outerwear) as well as Frost French (best purse) can be found above. Up-and-coming designer Bo Carter took home the accolade for Most Talented New Designer. As PETA notes: “Bo is part of a bright new wave of fashion talent who are shunning animal skins in their work. Bo always puts her principles first, so instead of bowing to industry pressure to use leather and fur, she expresses herself by creatively exploring the qualities of synthetic fabrics. The results are simply stunning: beautiful, original (and completely vegan) clothes.”
The awards mark the launch of PETA’s new logo, which designers and retailers can use to identify vegan clothes and accessories that they sell online or in stores.

Now that fashion weeks across the globe are drawing to a sad close, we thought it was time to come back from the fashion future and see what this season will be offering.
There are some great trends floating about this season, some are driven by the sumptuous nod to Royalty making brocade and fancy fabrics a must have for the upcoming party season, while others are that little bit more classic meaning polo necks and leather are back in town.
Unfortunately for some, Marmite trend velvet is back with a vengeance thanks to the likes of Gucci and Ralph Lauren, while plaids and geometrics are great for a more relaxed and playful look.
See the gallery below for our top five A/W 2012 trends.

Stella McCartney’s SS 2012 is a classic girl’s dream.
The range, which this season consisted of twee printed wide trousers and 80s jackets as well as shift dresses, is a great way to keep cool in the office, as well as making a stand in the evening too.
Satin trousers give the collection an ethereal feel, while we heart the thicker patterned fabrics, which give an 80s power woman feel to the range.
See the gallery below for our fave pieces.

If you’re not a natural tanner and don’t like the idea of fake tan, then the natural baby face make up trend is right up your street.
Highlighted on the Missoni and Stella McCartney SS 2012 shows, this trend embraces the pale, natural look, with barely there foundation and blusher.
However, you don’t have to risk going bare faced to achieve this look. Choose a light tinted moisturiser with light reflecting qualities to cover flaws and give your skin an even look.
Keep lips natural with a splash of gloss and eyes minimal with a splash of foundation.
See the designer inspiration in the gallery below.

Gallery, Paris Fashion Week, Trend Alert

We heart Paris fashion week, which attracts some of the best designers in the industry. And Stella McCartney is just one.
For AW 2012 Stella gave a nod to the 80s power suit, with a girly twist.
Tailored skirt and trouser suits, were given a soft playful edge with bright pinks, blues and super short mini dresses thrown into the mix, while patterned high neck tunics with floral detailing, gave a nod to traditional Japanese fashion.
Materials were soft, again giving a lighter take on the business suit, while chiffons were draped cleverly around backs of tops to give an almost “angel wings” look.
A heavenly collection indeed.
See the gallery below for all the pics.

Kate Hudson felt like the “hippest” girl in the world when Stella McCartney agreed to dress her for the 2001 Oscars.
Kate was just 21 when she received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress and was thrilled when the designer agreed to make a gown for her to wear to the prestigious event.
However, it didn’t go down to well with the world’s press but both Kate and Stella blame the high up-do she teamed the dress with.
She recalled: “Stella dressed me for my first red carpet event in 2001 for the Academy Awards. It was my first and only nomination. I was 21-years-old and to have Stella McCartney dressing me – well I felt like the hippest, coolest girl in the world. Up until the last minute Stella was working away, hand-sewing the hem. I woke up the next morning in my bed post-awards and without a little statuette on my bedside. I turned on the television to find out I was on every Worst Dressed list possible. So I called Stella and we just laughed our arses off and she said to me, “Look babe, it was the hair wasn’t it?”
However, Kate says she will wear the dress again but will style her tresses in more stylish way.
She said: “To this day that now vintage dress hangs in my wardrobe, but I swear one day I’ll wear it again. But Stella, I promise I’ll do the hair differently.”

McQ will show for the first time at London Fashion Week in February 2012.
The Alexander McQueen diffusion line’s catwalk show of their autumn/winter 2012-13 collection will serve as a preview for the label’s debut store opening later in the year.
McQ are to open a store carrying womenswear, menswear and accessories in a Georgian townhouse in London’s exclusive Mayfair district.
Yesterday, it was announced that Stella McCartney will also show for the first time at London Fashion Week.
The British designer will showcase a “one off special fashion presentation” on February 18 ahead of an assault on the British capital which will see her launch a ‘World of Stella’ exhibition of Selfridges, a new fragrance launch, and the opening of a second store.
However, she will then present her new collection in Paris, France as she has done for the past decade.
Alexander McQueen – who was known as Lee to friends – committed suicide in February 2010 but his successor Sarah Burton recently revealed the company still runs as if he were alive.
She explained: “Lee used to always say that you have to know all the rules to be able to break them.
“We have an open studio, so a big room, and it’s very visual. On the wall, there are just hundreds of images from all different kinds of periods and fabrics. Lee taught me to do things in a three-dimensional way.”

Meanwhile, dates for the ‘Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs’ exhibition at Les Arts Decoratifs in Paris have been announced.
The celebration of the long-running collaboration between the designer and the French leather goods firm will begin on March 6, the day before Paris Fashion Week wraps up and is set to run until September 16.
Despite being linked with a move to Christian Dior to take over from disgraced designer John Galliano, Marc recently revealed he has no plans to leave Louis Vuitton because he enjoys considerable freedom with the company.
He explained: “I could never do this anywhere else. It’s not just a Paris thing – Vuitton allows me. It’s really, really something I feel particularly proud of and am grateful to the team for. We’ve all worked really hard and gone through a lot to get this to where it is now and we’re starting to see results.”

Leona Lewis has launched a search for an ethical designer to rival Stella McCartney.
The ‘Bleeding Love’ singer has teamed up with Talenthouse – who have previously worked with Paul McCartney, Justin Timberlake and Queen – to announce the competition where young designers can submit ideas for a new stage outfit for her to wear with the winner receiving worldwide exposure for their design plus a cash prize of $1,500.
The animal lover said: “I love fashion, creativity and designing my own outfits. I can’t wait to see what people come up with. I think it’s really important to support creative individuals and the future names of tomorrow.
“I’m passionate about animal welfare and everything I wear always holds true to this – we want to find the next Stella McCartney out there! I’m really happy to be teaming up with Talenthouse to make this special competition work. Good luck everybody.”
Leona will also choose two runners up who will have their designs featured across her website and social media sites and receive $350 each.
Entries must be submitted by November 17th, and the winner will be announced on December 1st.

Stella McCartney will launch a line of eco-friendly sunglasses next year.
The British designer and environmentalist – who is a vegetarian and refuses to use leather or fur in her creations – revealed the new collection will be made of more than 50 per cent natural and renewable materials.
She told WWD: “The greatest challenge was the amount of time that was spent on research and testing to get the best quality product possible with the highest performance in terms of resistance, while still maintaining the style and finish we always try to achieve.”
This is not Stella’s first sunglasses collection, she released a line in 2009 in collaboration with Luxottica and says it’s important to have fun with them.
She explained: “Women have two sets: a classic pair they’ll have forever, and a more playful pair. We’ve added that fun element to the line. ‘My mum had this mad pair with Christmas trees on them that I loved when I was little. Sunglasses are one of the only accessories that can really have a sense of humour. But you walk a fine line between looking like a complete idiot and getting it just right.”

Nancy Shevell has become one to watch in the fashion world following her wedding to one of the world’s most eligible bachelors.
The heiress who tied the knot with Sir Paul McCartney in a 40s style white frock designed by Stella McCartney, has caught the style crews eye thanks to her classic style.
Unlike many a superstar’s wife Nancy opts for understated chic. She’s a huge fan of the classic shift dress, which she dresses up with embellishments for a night out, while velvet is also a regular is her wardrobe.
However, she’s also a fan of the vintage trend, often spotted in a range of 60s and 40s pieces.
We’re sure with style like this she gets on very well with her designer step daughter.
