Kate Bosworth has an “effortless approach” to style says her stylist

By Andrea Petrou on October 4th, 2011

Kate Bosworth has an “effortless approach” to fashion.

The stunning actress is often voted one of the world’s best-dressed women and her stylist, Cher Coulter, believes it’s because she has fun with what she wears and is willing to be risky.

Cher told People: “She’s got this effortless approach to style, and never overdoes it. She’s also fun and fashionable and willing to take risks. She’s simple, chic and always looks happy in what she’s wearing.”
Cher also says Kate can look good in both casual and smart clothes because she has the face and body to carry it off.

She said: “We like to get creative with current trends, but Kate has to feel good and comfortable.

“Kate loves denim because it’s easy and casual. She always wears denim to remain comfy while running around town. On the flip side, she also loves to dress up denim by pairing it with a silky button-up and a necklace slung just under the shirt collar. Kate’s a chameleon – she can wear anything!”

Rachel Zoe is nervous about showing her designs at New York Fashion Week

By emilyborrett on September 5th, 2011

The celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe has admitted that she’s “terrified” about the debut of her new fashion line, which will be shown in the upcoming New York Fashion Week. Yay, super-stylists get nervous too!

Rachel, who’s famous in the past for weaving fashion magic over Hollywood’s elite, told the fashion site FabSugar: “Nervous, excited, petrified, anxious, terrified . Did I mention terrified? I’m terrified.” Well, if her taste in clothes is anything to go by then the designs will be good – then again, you never can tell til you see it on the runway..

Despite her trepidation, Rachel Zoe is also excited about her new project, having recently compared finishing a collection to “giving birth”. “Being a designer was the thing that I always said, ‘I’m never going to do this, because I’m too scared to do this’. All of sudden during my presentation this season, I was like ‘Oh my god, why am I doing this, I’m too scared to do this. Then it was like, it was almost like giving birth. When it was over, I was like, ‘This is the most exciting, most challenging adventure. This is new, and this is fun.’ ” We can’t wait to see what she comes up with.

Christina Ricci keeps clothes until they become fashionable again

By emilyborrett on August 31st, 2011

Clever little Christina Ricci has a genius attitude to the spurned pieces in her wardrobe – keep them long enough and they’ll eventually come back in style.

When the Sleepy Hollow actress asked her stylist how long she should hang onto a garment before it stopped being uncool and become a quirky vintage piece, the answer was seven years. There you have it girls, keep your horrible footless tights from 2006 for a few more years and suddenly you’ll call yourself some cool “vintage” legwear to wear again. (Though actually, we really hope that footless tights never go back into fashion.)

She explained: “I asked my stylist, ‘What’s the rule from when something becomes vintage and not just, like, last season? Seven years, apparently. So seven years later, I’ve brought out my Alaia dresses again.”

There you have it. Keep anything long enough and it’ll come back in fashion again, according to Christina Ricci’s stylist. That’s actually quite comforting considering the amount of crap in my wardrobe…

Zandra Rhodes would never go out without accessories

By emilyborrett on August 22nd, 2011

The bonkers designer Zandra Rhodes, who is currently working on a new accessories range with Adele Marie, says that she could never be without jewellery or accessories. We know you couldn’t, Zandra, we’ve seen you!

Zandra’s new collection was designed in accordance with her own personal love for trinkets and beads. She said: “Firstly, I never go out without jewellery, ever! When I saw what Adele Marie did I knew that this was jewellery that I could be wearing. As a designer you have to want to wear what you are putting out. I like to get away and take inspiration from the kind of things I want to be wearing. With collaborations it’s different – we merge our ideas and visions together.”

Mama Rhodes’ new collection, basically, is for women like her who aren’t too scared to make a few brave choices about their look.

She told Marie Claire: “It’s for women who just want to wear a unique piece of jewellery. They’re very strong pieces, which emulate me. It’s not shy jewellery; it’s for women who want to make a statement.”

Patricia Field wants to style Michelle Obama

By emilyborrett on August 18th, 2011

Patricia wants to get her fashion claws into Michelle Obama (left)

Patricia Field, one of the most famous stylists in the world thanks to the magic she weaved over Carrie’s wardrobe in Sex and the City, has admitted that she’s dying to style Michelle Obama.

We think Michelle is the most stylish First Lady since Jackie O, and it seems that Patricia feels the same way. The iconic stylist said: “”Probably at this point I would like to dress Michelle Obama. I think because she’s tall, she’s a classy woman, and I think she dresses fine. But I would still love to get my hands on her. I love the way she presents herself and part of the way she presents herself that I really like a lot is that it’s natural and easy and she’s not trying. I think when she gets dressed up – she could get a little adjustment there. Because she’s so elegant in a way she could be a little more directed in her formal wear – but everyday stuff she’s got it down.”

Watch out Obama, if your wife goes off for a styling session with Patricia Field she might come back covered in animal prints and giant corsages. We’ll love it if that happens, but I’m not so sure if you will. Just be warned..

SATC stylish Patricia Field says: “Style doesn’t need to cost”

By emilyborrett on August 16th, 2011

Patricia is most famous for her work styling Sex and The City

The notoriously fabulous Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field advises aspiring fashionistas that good style doesn’t necessarily equal huge amounts of money.

Field says that anyone can have  style on a budget; they just need to find the right style to suit them. “Style is not the equivalent of money. Some people have lots of money and no style – some people have no money and lots of style. Style comes from a different choice – it comes from your philosophy and your job patterns and how you feel. I mean my life is very heavily around people much younger than myself. Young people, they don’t have a lot of money but the young people are the ones with the style. Young people have energy, and old people do not – and that energy translates into interests and getting information – and from all of that you can work out your style.”

The stylist says that the key secret to a stylish wardrobe is having a few classic, staple pieces – the pieces depending on the wearer. She said: “In anyone’s wardrobe there are those key pieces for them that they can’t live without. I could talk about myself, or somebody specific, but in general I would say that the more variation that you offer yourself in your wardrobe – the more combinations you will be able to create because you have more options.”

More variety you say? Well in that case, Patricia, I’ll go and max out my Topshop card right now..

New mother and stylist Rachel Zoe issues herself a no-heels ban

By emilyborrett on August 1st, 2011

Rachel Zoe, one of Hollywood’s most famous fashion stylists, has surprised us all with the news that she has banned herself from wearing heels while carrying her new four-month old son Skyler. (Yes, we know… Skyler.)

The diminutive fashion power-house is well-known for her passion for ankle-breaking high heels, but has decided to forgo them for now as she adjusts to being a new mummy, with the reasoning that it’s far safer to carry your baby in flats.

Zoe said about the new heel ban: “”I had better balance pregnant than not pregnant. My rule is I do not hold my child in heels.”

Quite right, and good for her, though I bet she’s already itching to get back into her Louboutins.

Emma Watson needs a stylist because she is so busy

By Andrea Petrou on July 13th, 2011

Emma Watson needs a stylist because she is so busy.

The ‘Harry Potter’ actress regularly wins praises for her fashion choices, but admits she needs some extra help because she doesn’t always have the time to shop.

She said: “I confess, I’ve had some help because I’ve been so busy.”

The 21-year-old beauty has starred in several fashion campaigns and she admits she turned to modelling because her studies at Brown University made it difficult to commit to other movie projects.

She explained: “Because I have been studying, I haven’t had much time to make another film or try and get directors and casting agents to look at me in a different way.

“I think fashion has been my way of expressing myself. In a way, I have been trying to play different characters in each of the photo shoots.”

While she has been focusing on fashion, Emma has “no idea” what the future holds now the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise has ended.

She added to Grazia magazine: “I think anything is possible. I have got no idea what I want so I’m just going with it.

“But I’m very excited about what I have coming up in my life.”

Blake Lively will never hire a stylist

By Andrea Petrou on July 5th, 2011

Blake Lively will never hire a stylist.

The ‘Gossip Girl’ star – who is often voted one of the world’s most fashionable women – says she loves putting outfits together herself and doesn’t want the advice of anyone else.

Speaking about the fashion industry, she said: “It’s a world that inspires and excites me. Some people don’t love clothes – they hire stylists and leave it to them. I’ve never hired one and I don’t plan to.”

Blake has become the latest ‘It’ girl of the fashion world, but she insists it doesn’t take away from her acting credentials.

She told Australia’s Daily Telegraph newspaper: “I have a pretty good understanding of what I’ve been able to put out there so far. I’m on a show 10 months of the year that’s in people’s homes once a week, and the show is defined by its fashion, so that’s what people know me most for already.”

The 23-year-old beauty has a lot of friends in the fashion world – notably Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld – and says she’s amazed at how power US Vogue editor Anna is.

She said: “She’ll say, ‘Wear this,’ and next thing you know, it’s all over the runways.”

London College of Style: Dream course for wannabe stylists

By Elaine LaPersonerie on July 16th, 2010

For anyone reading out there who has whiled away hours daydreaming about being the next Rachel Zoe, or looking at badly-dressed people and mentally planning what you’d make them wear, good news – there’s a new college set to hit the Parsons Green area that could be a massive leg-up for anyone wanting to break into the notoriously difficult career that is professional styling.

LCS is aiming to do for fashion-lovers what the Brit School does for drama-lovers – nurturing the talents of the student, finding them work, and discovering fashion’s potential new shining stars. The founders of the college are none other than Wendy Elsmore, who has appeared several times in the role of fashion expert for This Morning and regular reporter for events such as London fashion week, and Kate Smith, international model. Also joining LCS will be the likes of Xanthia White, celebrity make up artist, and senior lecturer in fashion/textiles at the Chelsea College of Art & Design, Gary Page. Basically, they’ve all got fashion credentials up to their eyeballs.

The intensive foundation course promises to give each student a clear understanding of skills and knowledge to build upon, giving them as strong a foundation as possible to build upon. Students will learn dressmaking and garment construction, styling for brands, television, film, magazines and stage, whilst working towards creating a portfolio piece to show off their talents to potential employers.

It sounds like a dream come true to me. If you’re sitting at home dressing up your cat as you read this, wishing you could style real people, click through here for more details on how to apply to the foundation course.

Rachel Zoe launches ‘The Zoe Report’ fashion newsletter

By Kimberley Foster on July 2nd, 2009

Following in Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP footsteps is Rachel Zoe. The stylist-come-reality-star is about to launch her own daily fashion newsletter, ‘The Zoe Report’.

It promises a “chic variety of accessories, apparel, and other items [which] are carefully chosen by our editorial team of fashion addicts – ahem – experts”. In other words, Zoe may not be choosing the products herself, but they will be left in the hands of her editorial team. She also claims not to take any money for featuring products.

“Never in a million years would we accept money (or Maxfield giftcards) in exchange for editorial endorsement. That would be bananas. The bad kind,” she said.

If you’re interested, you can sign up to the mailing list via Rachel Zoe’s website.

Despite reports that she might be quitting due to a row with SJP, Pat has confirmed that she is “absolutely” on board for the next chapter.

“I don’t use the recession as a reference for my creativity, true,” she told Radar. ” I am furious and had a row with Sarah Jessica over whatever? False.”

But that’s not all. In order to prevent leaks, producers have come up with five scripts for the sequel, each with a different plotline.

One version is even said to include Carrie, Big and a baby. Click here to read more sequel goss.

Interview exclusive: Rachel Zoe speaks to our own TV Scoop

By Kimberley Foster on May 21st, 2009

rachelzoe_tvscoopinterview.jpgOur friends over at Shiny Media’s sensational television blog, TV Scoop, snagged an exclusive interview with Rachel Zoe. Naturally we were not only tres excited but also very jealous.

The much-talked-about stylist discusses her love of vintage, her personal style icons, and of course her reasons behind launching her fly-on-the-wall series, The Rachel Zoe Project, which currently screens on Really (Sky and Virgin Media). She is also apparently a very big fan of British fashion:

“The style in the UK is a huge, huge inspiration for me. I love… even walking along the streets of London, I’m like, aaaurgh [makes sighing noise]. You just get that great aristocratic style that I love so much. Like that classic English… Savile Row and all that. And… I love the whole Portobello/Notting Hill vibe too.”

Hot or Not: Rihanna at the American Music Awards

By Elaine LaPersonerie on November 24th, 2008

th_1227584136_rex_821326t.jpg This is what I consider Fashion Suicide! Did Rihanna, one of “theeeee” biggest entertainers actually bomb on one of the biggest nights of her career? Ms. Umbrella may have picked up a trillion awards last night at the American Music Awards, but she definitely missed the mirror on the way out the door. I mean, does she not look like she was wrapped in dis-colored gauze or expensive toilet paper? And the bias cuts are positioned so poorly that each time she walked on stage she had to hold her dress in an effort to keep her “privates” private! The gloves are neither here nor there because I just can’t get past the dress. She happens to be a pretty hot chick but this was just an absolute mess. Some advice to the Rihanna camp…NEW STYLIST NEEDED!
