Banana Republic launches green Heritage for Women line this spring

We love shopping green, but it’s a hard row to hoe! (Like that? Gardening reference in a GREEN article. Gosh we’re funny.) If you want to try things on, as in not shop online, you have to seek out expensive lines and city boutiques. So we’re super excited that Banana Republic is bringing more sustainable fashion to the mall.

Plus, when it’s BR, you know it’s not going to be too hippy dippy, and that the quality will be good. They describe it as eco-chic meets weekend chic. Items in the line will include the Classic Novelty Gaucho, Silk Explorer Shirt, Long Embroidered Strapless Dress, Short Sleeve Jamie Pocket Tee and Cargo Khaki Bloomer.

New York Fashion Week - Gossip

With all the waste (energy, paper, carbon emissions) of fashion week, why not just Be EcoChic?

Admittedly, Fashion Week is probably not the most environmental of events. What with thousands of paper invites, heating/cooling those tents, and guests/models flying in from all corners of the earth. Not to mention cabs. Nothing says “skip mass transit” like the heels rquired should Anna Wintour catch a glimpse of you.

But BeEcoChic is at least trying to make sure sustainable, low-impact fabrics and environmental crusaders have a place amongst the madness.

Keep reading for how models Angela Lindvall, Alek Wek, Lauren Hutton and Alexandra Richards, as well as TV stars from “Lipstick Jungle,” “Law & Order,” “Gossip Girl” and “Ugly Betty” will be doing their part.
