Erin Fetherston items are trickling onto the Target Web site for purchase, like the $39.99 velvet pants above at right. They seem to be the only thing available for sale right now, but hint of things to come. So if there’s something you really want to get, I’d be checking back every day this week. Some suggestions? The look on the left up top includes the chiffon bunny-print dress, only $44.99. And Gossip Girl fans might notice that the red satin head band in the middle looks a lot like the one Blaire wore in last week’s episode! At $7.99 it’s the perfect way to sample this American in Paris’s romantic look.
And what else does a new Go International collection for Target mean? The Alice Temperley items are on sale. Keep reading for our picks!
Still don’t know what to dress up as this Halloween? Head to Target! They have a huge selection of sexy women’s costumes–over 100 to choose from. The most popular, of course, are the Pirate and Gretel costumes, but they have tons of classics like super hot witch outfits and dark angel ensembles. As well as some originals like Unhappily Everafter Sinderella (above). Most of Target’s costumes aren’t that much–they range from $20 to $70. But if you want to go all out, they have really elaborate costumes like the Cleopatra one featured after the jump for $139.99.
For the upcoming holidays or a night on the town, you don’t have to spend a lot to look like a million bucks. This Isaac Mizrahi for Target Taffeta Extravaganza Dress in Ebony, for example is very stylish, but definitely won’t break the bank. Outlined in a ruffle and in a sleeveless wraparound style, it ties in a bow on the side for a sexy flirty shape. The V- neck flatters your assets as well. Pair this with some excellent ’40s-style heels, and you’ve completed the look perfectly. Comfy and slimming for a cool $49.99, you can’t beat this price!
Glossy, wet-looking patent leather is a great way to add glamor to a day or evening look. Net-a-porter.com recommends pairing a dress with patent shoes and clutch for evening, veering away from the typical leather with gray or blue, and mixing high shine with a chunky knit. On the higher-priced end, check out this gray lurex halter dress from Lela Rose retails for $1,695 and these Pedro Garcia ankle boots for $440. For more affordable ways to add shiny leather to your wardrobe. Try these Isaac Mizrahi ankle boots at Target for $36.99, or patent clutch for $14.99 (images on next page).
After the NYPD raid on Monday in Queens of $13 million dollars worth of counterfeit apparel of brands such as Polo, Lacoste, North Face, Rocawear, and Seven For All Mankind, it really made me think, How bad is it to buy a fake? This video, above, on how a counterfeit Louis Vuitton purse is brought into the U.S. is pretty interesting–minus the “We’re gonna get you, suckers!” Of course, though, it can be pretty irresistible sometimes to buy a faux handbag or sunglasses for $10 to $20, especially when the original costs $100 or more. But what I didn’t realize was that U.S. companies lose $200-250 billion a year and 750,000 Americans have lost their jobs because of counterfeit and piracy (according to the U.S. Chamber of Congress).
Target is on a roll, announcing another fabulous designer for an upcoming collection. First, it was Alice Temperley, then Erin Fetherston (both still to come), now it’s Jovovich-Hawk. Designed by model/actress Milla Jovovich and model Carmen Hawk, the vintage-inspired clothing is worn by fashion trendsetters like Chloe Sevigny and Joy Bryant. Jovovich told the LA Times recently “Our Target line will have all our classic pieces: smock dresses, tunics, minis, all vintage-inspired, great prints,” she said. “To be able to do it with a big company that can afford to do it for a good price so that real girls can afford it. That’s the reason we were interested.” The collection will appear in stores this spring and clothing will retails for about US$35.
When Marc Jacobs sent his models down the fall runway, gone were the billowy fabrics and layers of his past collections. Instead, Jacobs introduced us to sophisticated women’s wear. Long coats with stiff shoulders, loose trousers, and wide-brimmed hats were inspired by 1970s menswear for women and pants-wearing 1930s screen siren Katherine Hepburn. When the rubber rainboot trend first hit the streets, I was a bit skeptical. Mostly because a lot of stores were carrying styles that put me back to grade school. Clouds, rainbows, and pink boots with a kitty-cat face at the toes—I could go on and on. Eventually though, I got sick of dodging puddles in heels, (not to mention I ruined some serious shoes) so, I bought a pair of Marc Jacob All Weather Boots. They were rubber, olive green, up to my knees and Lord have mercy they saved my life! No more drenched jeans, wet feet or ruining great shoes. It really made sense why people loved rubber boots. Coincidently, the NY Times did a little slide show this week of New Yorkers battling recent rainy weather. And guess what the focus was? Rainboots!
London-based designer Alice Temperley first introduced her feminine frocks to the English runway in 2003. By the time she debuted in New York in the spring of 2006 she already had a following in America. For her Target Go International collection coming to stores September 16th, Temperley created interpretations of her fall 2007 ready-to-wear collection, using the same gray, black, white, and blue palette, high Victorian necklines, and floppy bow accents, while making the clothing more everyday wearable and, of course, a lot more affordable.
Joining past designers Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, and most recently Libertine, Erin Fetherston has been announced by Target as the next designer for their Go International collection. Fetherston is known for her girly dresses and cute accents like ruffles and bows, and she brings these trademarks to her Target collection. The clothing is very ‘little Parisian girl’ with Peter Pan collars, ruffle accents, and an oversize heart handbag. The American-born, Parsons Paris-educated designer’s collection won’t debut until November (Alice Temperley’s Target line comes first), so for now we’ll just have to ooh and aah over the pictures from the Target pressroom.
