Dame Helen Mirren tops list of Hotter Than Ever Women Over 50

By Andrea Petrou on May 27th, 2011

Dame Helen Mirren has topped a list of Hotter Than Ever Women Over 50.

The 65-year-old actress – who is renowned for her enviable figure – was named number one in the study by home shopping retailer for 50-plus women, isme.com beating off competition from 61-year-old model Twiggy and actress Joanna Lumley, 64, who placed second and third in the list.

Singer Lulu, 62, Kim Cattrall, and actress and director Emma Thompson, 52, were also voted into the top 10.

However, Helen is unlikely to be too impressed with the accolade, recently revealing she hates when people focus on her looks.

She said: “We have to let go of this c**p. It creates even more pressure on women, and I certainly don’t want to be a part of that. I’m not beautiful; I clean up nice.

“Why don’t we talk about the fact, for example, that I just did ‘Arthur’, and the cinematographer was a woman, the film operator was a woman, the whole camera team were women? That’s where we should be putting our attention. The fact that I look good at the age I am is bloody irrelevant.”

Wimbledon is well and truly in full swing and we’ve been watching with baited breath as the exciting games continue.

Also keeping close watch are a range of celebrities who have sat at the game or benefited from the pre Wimbledon parties.

Looking fresh faced and casual in jeans and a tee Shakira hit the stands to watch the game yesterday while other’s partied the night away at the Slazenger Wimbledon Party held at Movida nightclub.

Snog, Marry, Avoid presenter and ex Atomic Kitten Jenny Frost was just one of these, turning up to the event in a cute white top and matching tennis style skirt.

She was followed by Kirsty Gallacher, who opted for an on-trend grey jumpsuit and Chloe Madely who played it casual in shorts and a cool white vest top. See the stars in our gallery below.

More Ladies Day at Ascot pics!

By Andrea Petrou on June 18th, 2010

Yesterday we bought you a brief round-up of some of the hats and fashion sported at Ascot Ladies Day. However, we didn’t think that was enough judging by some of the crazy fashions out there so we’ve decided to bring you some more fab images of the day.

And if you thought Lady Gaga’s headwear was crazy then prepare yourselves because racegoers really went to town this year. We spotted nods to the World Cup, odes to Alice in Wonderland and lots of floral fun. And it wasn’t just the British public that wowed.

Louise Redknapp, with hubby Jamie in tow looked gorgeous in a black simple frock and headpiece and of course Jamie looked dapper in his black suit and bowler hat. Another dapper looking celeb was Dec who wore a morning suit and waistcoat for his appearance at the event. However, there’s no doubt that the ladies looked so much better on the day.

View the gallery below for all the wacky hats and Ascot fashion.

Lady Gaga goes for gothic lady in red for the Royal Variety Show

By Andrea Petrou on December 8th, 2009

Lady gaga.jpgLast night’s Royal Variety show really went off with a fashion bang.

And it seems some celebs went more for wacky and tacky then the demure approach we would have expected if one was to be appearing in front of the Queen.

Lady Gaga took to the stage in an Elizabethan style leather number complete with black eyes, eyes glittered to the hilt.

The usually well dressed Katherine Jenkins also made her first appearance in a black-feathered bodice teamed with matching gloves and dramatic eye make-up. However, she quickly transformed back into her princess style with a sleek black dress before meeting the queen.
