Bernardo footwear spring ’08 collection

By Andrea Thatcher on November 2nd, 2007

Bernard Rudofsky, creator of Bernardo founded the development of the modern-day sandal in the 1940s. His designs were worn by celebrities such as Jackie O and Lily Pulitzer.
bernardo_metallics.jpgToday, designers Dennis and Lynne Commeau for Bernardo have again revolutionized the sandal with the creation of ‘hybrid footwear.’ Their spring 2008 collection is super chic with tons of metallic, unique and goddess-like designs, and loads of color. An example of the ‘hybrid’ is the metallic, iridescent sandalrina (top left)–a cross between a thong sandal and ballet flat. It features a thong open toe with a slingback attached to a strap covering the heel. The blue and red thongs with triple-straps connecting to a circle detail (top left) are the Matrix sandals. This design has goddess-like appeal that can be dressed up or down. The sandalrinas and Matrix thongs all feature distressed vintage metallic–a muted metallic look with just a hint of sheen. I also really like the Aroma buckled peep-toe ballerina flat in red (top right). The buckle hardware and contrast stitching are a sophisticated touch. The Mistral (bottom) is a very classic design updated with a sleek leaf-shaped band across the top. All of the Bernardo styles come in a variety of colors to complement any outfit perfectly. Continue to the jump for more on their spring designs.
