New York Fashion Week: Tory Burch backstage gallery

By Andrea Thatcher on February 19th, 2009

Tory Burch is smart about this recession business. She didn’t sacrifice the luxe factor for her Fall 09 collection, far from it, she seems to have upped the sophistication and chic styling. But a big part of her collection? The affordable statement necklace.

“We spent a lot of time on costume jewelry, shoes and handbags,” she said backstage before her show. “[The jewelry] is all made by hand and will be available in stores and on the Web site.”

I love that, because a lot of times the jewelry for a show is one-of-a-kind and can’t be purchased, or certainly can’t be purchased by the average jane. What is TB thinking for fall 09?

“My favorite piece for fall is ths soft white jacket with feather detail … the skinny leather pants I love … every look in [this collection] I would wear myself.”

Check out tons of bags, boots, jewelry and fashion in our gallery by clicking on the image below!

Tonight was a busy night but I stopped backstage at Tory Burch (and met the lady herself!) between the Carmen Marc Valvo party and Vivienne Tam presentation. A style blogger’s got to sleep sometime, so I will leave you waiting for all that fabulous fashion but in the meantime check out the Tory Burch beauty gallery over on ShinyGloss.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2009: Tory Burch

Tory Burch showed her Spring 2009 collection at the Matthew Marks Gallery in Chelsea this afternoon and I literally could spot the ladies who lunch crowd that was gathered waiting for the show to start (decked-out in head-to-toe Burch), a mile away. Backstage I got some scoop on the Redken hair products and Bobbi Brown cosmetics that were used to achieve the looks – check out ShinyGloss for those details.

When it came to the collection itself, I was most impressed by the accessories (no surprise given that Tony Burch is a CFDA-award winner for her accessories). The gold-spiked cuff bracelets and skinny belts were very reminiscent of Hermes Collier de Chien and were instantly eye-catching, as were the lust-worthy stacked gold bracelets, bold chain necklaces, sexy pumps, straw fedoras, and handbags embellished with neon-detailing (yes, it seems that neon will once again be back next spring).

Even at the celebratory Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards last night, the memory of legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent was not far from the industry’s mind.

Inspired by Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking Suit and one of the night’s winners, Ashley Olsen donned a Calvin Klein resort 09 tuxedo. Naomi Campbell topped that by wearing vintage YSL, and CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg also wore the symbolic style including a vintage YSL jacket.

Our top 10 picks from the resort collections to wear right here at home

By Andrea Thatcher on November 1st, 2007

top%20ten%20resort.jpg

We’ve languished over the fact that we rarely have anywhere resorty to go that would require any sort of resort wardrobe, but now we’re getting over it and making the best. We’ve chosen the top 10 resort pieces to wear right where you live – to work, to parties, out on the town. We’ve even found some pieces that will help you keep cozy in colder climes. I’m sure somewhere a doyenne on the upper east side is rolling her eyes that we would concieve wearing resort fashions anywhere other than Biarritz, but so be it.

Prada%20resort%20bag.jpg

We love this Prada bag for anywhere any time of year. The leather tote, available at select Saks Fifth Avenue stores, could double as a carry on if you like to look chic in-flight or on the road, and has just enough structure to pull off at the office. We adore the green, but if we were going to spend $1,495, we’d want it in black.

“Gossip Girl” website offers innovative watch-it-buy-it option

By Andrea Thatcher on September 21st, 2007

The new CW show “Gossip Girl,” the fashion of which we discussed here, has a Web site suited for its fashion-obsessed audience. At the shows site viewers can click on items that the characters wore and purchase them, like the Tory Burch sequin tunic dress character Serena van der Woodsen (played by “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” actress Blake Lively) wore to the “Kiss on the Lips” party in the premiere episode. Keep in mind however that you might need an Upper East Side teenager’s disposable income to afford these items. The Burch dress, for example, retails for $450.
