Diane von Furstenberg settles out of court for copying

Diane von Furstenberg, who has strived for copyright inclusion as part of her role as CFDA president, has settled out of court after being accused of improper copying. DvF will now pay the designers of Mercy of Canada an undisclosed sum and will stop using the copied jacket design. Some might recall that the garment was actually pulled by Whitney Port on The City for the March ’09 cover of Elle.

“While this is an isolated incident for DVF, it is unfortunate that way too many others intentionally build businesses by stealing the work of other designers,” von Furstenberg said.

Katy Perry sues Aussie designer Katie Perry

A war of words, or names rather, has erupted between Katy Perry and Australian designer, Katie Perry.The trouble began when Katie Perry, who runs a luxury loungewear label, decided to trademark her birth name. Lawyers acting on behalf of Katy Perry are opposing the application, despite a difference in spelling. They sent a letter to the designer asking her to stop trading.
