Top five SS 2012 trends

By Andrea Petrou on January 13th, 2012

You may not feel it, but spring is most definitely on its way, at least on the highstreet anyway. This season there’s a huge range of styles to choose from and we can’t wait until the frost thaws and rain goes, so we can begin to channel these looks.

The first trend we can’t wait to get into is the 20s flapper look, which has been given a summer make over. Gone are the feathers seen in AW 2011 and in come the sequins, drop waisted dresses and light fabrics, which really emulate this era.

If you’re a girly girl then the cute and sweet Sugar Doll look is also a must-have trend. Florals and girly colours fashioned into lace and simple cut frocks make up this style for the SS 2012 and was hot on the Louis Vuitton catwalk, while pastels also compliment this trend.

Those who like to show their casual side will also love the glam sports trend. Shown by Victoria Beckham, amongst others, this smart take on the sporty look – think sleek trackies, metallic vests and cute trainers – is great for those chilling out days.

See the gallery below for our top five trends.

New York Fashion Week: Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S 2012

It is undisputable that Mr Marc Jacobs is the king of fashion right now. With his own hugely successful self-titled lines, as well as creative directorship at Louis Vuitton and rumours that he may also be taking over Dior, he’s got a finger in every one of the yummiest fashion pies right now.

Yesterday’s Marc for Marc Jacobs show at NYFW was one of the hottest tickets around – it always is – and the Tattooed One didn’t let us down with a cool collection of sportswear-inspired casual pieces. Each piece was beautifully simple with a modern, clean feel to it that reminds us of European designers such as Jil Sander, mixing utilitarian slate-greys with little splashes of Crayola colour here and there for a playful twist.

There was a clear “boyfriend” vibe about the collection as Jacobs had opted for masculine, simple styles that when worn looked like they might have been pinched from a fashionable boyfriend’s wardrobe. From crisp, oversized shirt dresses to pink-and-white striped short suits, it seemed to us to be a very masculine take on casual womenswear.

Our favourite thing about the collection were the accessories – Monsieur Jacobs is, after all, the king of accessory design – fresh 90s-style hi-top trainers in childish, primary colours which added a carefree twist to some of the more austere-looking designs.

Viva Marc! Check out the gallery above to see the new Marc for Marc Jacobs collection.

Christian Louboutin launches trainer range

By admin on August 24th, 2010

It seems ShinyStyle is having a little bit of a shoe day. This morning we bought you the news that Selfridges was launching an exhibition dedicated to Vivienne Westwood’s shoes and now we’ve just been told about a gorgeous new range from Christian Louboutin.

However, if you’re expecting us to bang on about sky-scraper heels, complete with the red patent soles, that  Mr Louboutin is best known for, then think again, because this range is all about (shock horror) flats and trainers.

No, you don’t need to reach for your glasses, you read right, because his new collection is all about crystal encrusted, metallic and leopard print hi-top trainers, which have just stepped through the doors of Harvey Nichols.

Being fans of flats we can’t wait to get our hands on these, which give a nod to the 80s trend (yes it’s still lurking around in AW 2010) and are great for sporty chic. We’ll be putting these £700 designer babies on our “must have” list.

Casual Friday: Top five must-have trainers

By Shiny writer on July 30th, 2010

Yay. It’s Friday and the weekend awaits. For many of you this will will mean chilling out at home, meeting up with friends, but most importantly the fact that you get to swap those work clothes and heels for jeans and trainers.

And some of you may already be doing that just now, with lots of companies giving their staff dress down Friday.

Over the years trainers have become a huge fashion statement moving from the gym into ever fashionista’s shoe collection. And of course companies, including DKNY and Chanel, have wised up to this creating stylish footwear that is perfect for the casual look without looking as though you’re heading off to exercise. This season it’s all about 80s Converse, pimped up plimsolls and blingtastic sneakers.

Here’s ShinyStyle’s highstreet top 5 for that weekend chillout or as a wellie alternative at festivals.

Jimmy Choo announces trainer range

By Andrea Petrou on January 29th, 2010

Jimmy Choo trainers.jpgIt seems the fashion world has gone trainer mad today.

Earlier this morning we reported that Diana Ross and Steve Madden had teamed up to create a range of these and now Jimmy Choo, which is already collaborating with Uggs to create casual footwear, has stepped into the limelight announcing the launch of its street-cool sneaker line.

The brand best known for its gorgeous superhigh stilletoe heels, has created a collection of eight trainers, which include, suede and snakeskin designs finished with gold touches in low and high-top styles.

Could trainers be the next Manolos? And with so many fashionable trainers hitting the shelves will the “no trainers” policy in clubs be lifted?

Trainers that help you burn calories

By Andrea Petrou on August 27th, 2009

sce.jpgWhile we’re on the topic of trainers, we thought we’d tell you about these new designs by Skechers.

Now we’re not overly keen about advocating something that encourages you to buy it because of claims it helps you lose weight but we thought we’d give these a mention.

The company has launched a range of fitness footwear called Skechers Shape Ups. The shoes have a dynamic rocking bottom, soft foam insole and dual-density midsole with a kinetic wedge running the length of the shoe.

This is said to create a soft but uneven surface which engages the muscles in the legs and help you burn calories when you walk.

According to Sketchers, a study of 8 women using these shoes for six weeks showed an overall weight loss of 3.25 pounds, not too bad, but for the £89 cost we think we’d rather sign up to the gym.

Footwear to help us with the summer to winter shoe transition

By Andrea Petrou on August 27th, 2009

Jinga Originals Gunmetal Pink Trainer.JPGWith the winter fast approaching it will soon be time to pack away our Haviana’s and get out feet into footwear that will hopefully save our toes from frost bite.

Yes we know, it’s depressing, but if you’re not quite yet ready to part with your summer style, then we have found something that may ease the transition.

Jinga trainers are the latest Brazilian footwear to walk onto our shores and are perfect for us Haviana wearing girls who love a bit of retro Brazilian.

Now we know what you’re thinking, trainers are hardly a big fashion statement, but let’s be honest we all need a nice funky pair and these trainers not only look stylish but also come in a range of colours, from white to pink and grey.

Oh, and they won’t feel that much different from your flip flops either. Why? Because the company claims that these trainers give you the feeling of being barefoot because of the slim sole.

What’s more, all Jinga’s are ethically made and certified by the Vegan Society making them light on your feet and your conscience.
They cost £39.
