Amy Winehouse’s funeral will take place today
The 27-year-old singer – who was found dead at her north London home on Saturday will be laid to rest in a private ceremony for her loved ones, a family spokesperson has confirmed.
The representative refused to give details of the time or location for the service.
Jewish customs normally require a funeral to take place within 24 hours of death.
However, Amy’s had to be delayed in order for post-mortem examinations to be carried out.
Her inquest was opened and immediately adjourned at London’s St Pancras Coroner’s Court today in order to prevent further delays in the burial.
Assistant Deputy Coroner Suzanne Greenaway told the two-minute hearing: “I’m formally opening this inquest. I’m issuing interim certificates to allow Miss Winehouse’s family to make arrangements for the funeral.”
Sharon Duff, Coroner’s Officer at St Pancras Coroner’s Court, had earlier told the hearing: “I bring before you the death of Amy Jade Winehouse, aged 27, born on the 14 September 1983 in London.
“She was a divorced lady living at Camden Square, NW1. She was certified dead at her home by a paramedic and a doctor on July 23.
“She was a singer/songwriter at the time of her death and was identified by her family here at St Pancras this morning. A section 20 post mortem has been carried out and histology and toxicology taken to determine the cause of death.
“The scene was investigated by police and determined non-suspicious.”
The case has now been adjourned until October 26.
Tributes for Alexander McQueen have been flooding in from every corner of the celebrity and fashion worlds with many using Twitter to put their thoughts into the public domain.
Peaches Geldof was among the first celebrities to pay tribute on the micro-site, posting a quote from TS Eliot. On her page, she wrote: “RIP Alexander McQueen.”Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”- T.S. Eliot”
And Tyra Banks tweeted, “RIP Alexander McQueen. so so sad. such a huge loss. He was one of my favorite designers. He will be missed.”
Others have released statements to tell the world how much they respected the designer.
Sarah Jessica Parker said: “What is more devastating is that despite all his success thus far creatively, critically and commercially, his greatest achievements lay ahead of him, the future would be whatever he hoped to make of it.
“He was talented well beyond his years and the seriousness and unrivalled talent which he applied to his work is in bountiful display year after year and collection after collection,” she said. “Every single inspired, original, lofty, whimsical, stunning, brilliant and jaw dropping detail was Alexander McQueen.”
Madonna said: “Lee McQueen was a truly unique visionary in the world of fashion. A creator of beauty. What a tragedy.”
