When it comes to making or breaking a star’s fashion legacy, Chanel mastermind Karl Lagerfeld is the man who makes it happen. A true fashion phenomenon throughout the world- who couldn’t recognise that snow-haired, be-gloved satorialist from a hundred paces? – he has a gift for plucking out actresses, singers and models from modest, slightly obscure fame and launching them into fashion superstardom.
We’ve all seen Keira Knightley’s flawless pout as the face of Coco Madamoiselle, and Lily Allen’s performance, clad head-to-toe in Chanel, smack-bang in the middle of a catwalk. Most recently to become an ambassador for France’s chicest fashion house is Blake Lively, who’s just had a handbag designed in her name. Bloody cow. We all want what these girls have got – so what is it that makes these women a Chanel girl? That’s what ShinyStyle wants to find out.
Today we’re starting with Parisian popstrel Vanessa Paradis, the current face of Chanel Rouge COCO lipsticks and long-time sweetheart of Johnny Depp. With her adorable unabashed gappy smile, razor-sharp cheekbones and effortless French style, we have such a girl-crush on the Joe Le Taxi singer. Karl loves her so much that he uses her endlessly for fashion stories and has even produced Chanel-branded lip-shaped badges in celebration of her famous gap-teeth.
Looking through some of our absolute favourite Paradis moments, it’s obvious to us why Kaiser Karl has such an admiration for her style. Never try-hard or over-the-top but always gloriously elegant, whether she’s wearing a tux jacket and jeans or a decadent evening look, she looks like a true Parisian woman all the time. Plus, the girl looks GREAT in Chanel – who could be a better ambassador? Check out our gallery for some of Vanessa’s best looks.
Day seven of the Cannes Film Festival saw a huge range of events. But one that really stands out to us here at ShinyStyle in the Chanel Party, which was of course hosted by Karl Lagerfeld.
And it came as no surprise that Vanessa Paradis was the guest of honour. The model who turned up with hubby Johnny Depp, looked stunnng in a black backless dress and shoes andkept it casual with minimal make-up and loose hair.
Vanessa is fronting the new Coco Coccon collection for the brand this year, but it’s not the first time she’s been associated with Chanel.
The actress has frequently chosen to walk the red carpet dressed in ChanelL, and in 2004 Karl made her the ambassadress of the “Ligne Cambon” handbag range. The following year, the designer asked her to pose again, this time for the “New Mademoiselle” bags.
On Friday we here at ShinyStyle were lucky enough to get a sneak preview of Chanel‘s latest Coco Cocoon bag collection, which hit stores over the weekend.
The famous range, which this year comprises of the signature padded style we’ve all grown to love, has been updated with furs, different colour linings and of course a new face. Gone is Lily Allen and in her place comes Vanessa Paradis.
The model and actress is of course no stranger to the brand. In 2004 Karl Lagerfeld appointed her as the ambassadress of the “Ligne Cambon” handbags. The following year, the designer asked her to pose again, this time for the “New Mademoiselle” bags.
And now she’s been picked for the “Coco Cocoon” handbags line.

Chanel model Vanessa Paradis, Diane Kruger and Georgia May Jagger all hit the trendy town of Saint Tropez for a game of boules.
The event was hosted by Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld, who had a hidden agenda for his fashion fun and that was of course to launch Chanel’s Cruise 2010 collection and his much-hyped short film, Remember Now.
The The 17-minute long film, directed by Lagerfeld stars Elisa Sednaoui, Heidi Mount, French actor Pascal Greggory and Abbey Lee Kershaw.
Will it be worth the hype? We think so.
