It is cool to love khaki – take it from Alexander Wang, Vena Cava, and Albertus Swanepoel. This year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists have joined forces with Gap to bring you their versions of the classic khaki, instead of the usual white shirts. These range from dresses to hats to jackets.

Designers, Fashion News

It’s always tough out there for emerging designers, and the current retail climate just makes it harder. But that doesn’t have CFDA fashion fund finalists Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock down. The Vena Cava designers have actually found reassurance in recession shopping patterns.
“The feedback we’re getting from stores is that the novelty items are continuing to sell really well–our custom prints and the pieces with decorative hardware,” Mayock said. “What I take from that is, let’s keep pushing the signature Vena Cava look, because apparently price is less of an issue when there’s an urgency to the clothes, a specialness.”

New York Fashion Week - Gossip

Admittedly, Fashion Week is probably not the most environmental of events. What with thousands of paper invites, heating/cooling those tents, and guests/models flying in from all corners of the earth. Not to mention cabs. Nothing says “skip mass transit” like the heels rquired should Anna Wintour catch a glimpse of you.
But BeEcoChic is at least trying to make sure sustainable, low-impact fabrics and environmental crusaders have a place amongst the madness.
Keep reading for how models Angela Lindvall, Alek Wek, Lauren Hutton and Alexandra Richards, as well as TV stars from “Lipstick Jungle,” “Law & Order,” “Gossip Girl” and “Ugly Betty” will be doing their part.

Designer Fashions, dresses, Sales and Specials

Searching the summer sales for items that can transition into fall can be tricky, and leave you wearing strapless dresses in October to justify a purchase.
But this silk crepe de chine Vena Cava Topanga dress, down to $129 from $525 is going to make one lucky size 10 a wonderful fall option.
The black and cream combo is seasonless, and tights will go nicely.
Check out Barney’s sale for tons of DVF, Vince, classic knits and accessories.

Designers, Fashion News
By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on July 16th, 2008

The CFDA is quite proud of the variety in its Fashion Fund finalists this year – with good reason. A green designer (John Patrick of Organic, natch), a milliner (Albertus Quartus – whose design for Proenza Schouler Fall 2007 is shown) and a jewelry designer (Irene Neuwirth) are all included on the short list for the prize.
While the CFDA also touts that two of its finalists are non-New Yorkers, we could only find a few designers who were born or started out in California, none who were based there now.

Swanepoel of Albertus Quartus; Alejandro Ingelmo; Juan Carlos Obando; Swaim and Christina Hutson of Obedient Sons & Daughters; John Patrick of Organic, and Sophie Mayock and Lisa Buhai of Vena Cava.
