If you want a make up look that will really make you stand out this season then you’ll love the subtle grunge look. The trend was all over the AW 2011 catwalks championed by both Vivienne Westwood and Vera Wang and goes perfectly with the 80s clothing trends that are hot at the moment.
To get the look you’ll need to focus mainly on the eyes to get a smokey look. Keep the foundation to a minimum and add a touch of girly frosted pink lippy.
See the gallery below for a masterclass on how to get the look as well as what make up to buy.
One of the world’s most famous heiresses, Kim Kardashian, has said that marrying her basketball hubby Kris Humphries last week felt like she was “in heaven”.
The two wed in an extravagant fairytale ceremony in California last week in front of a star-studded guestlist of A-listers. While Kim has said that she felt like “a princess” in her Vera Wang gown at the lavishly OTT nuptials, her and Kris still insist that the day was about celebrating their love for one another and their family and not just throwing a great party. Awwww.
She told People magazine: “Glam aside, that wasn’t our main goal. It was really about our family and each other.”
Kim had not one, not two but three different Vera Wang gowns for the wedding and the reception and the guests tucked into a monstrously huge 10-tower cake from Hansen’s bakery. Well, if we were wearing Vera Wang and eating as much cake as we physically could, we’d feel like we were in heaven too.
The ceremony has been all everyone’s been talking about for weeks – but if you’re sad that it’s all over, fear not, because the couple are planning to have a second ceremony soon.
Kim Kardashian’s lavish wedding party on Saturday had to be cut short because of complaints from the neighbours.
The party was supposed to go on until 4AM, but a pesky old fire marshal turned up at midnight and ordered the music to be stopped following phone calls of complaints from those who lived nearby.
A source told the New York Post newspaper: “Around midnight DJ Cassidy, who had been spinning for an hour, was ordered to shut down because the neighbours were complaining about the volume of the music. The neighbours didn’t come over, but they called the police. Kim took the news OK and seemed relaxed about it, but her sister Khloe was pretty upset.”
Besides the inconvenient early closing of the party, the wedding was apparently a great success. Ryan Seacrest tweeted after the celebrations: “Beautiful … Kim looked regal, a perfect night. I just danced w the whole family. (sic)”.
The celebrity guests included Avril Lavigne, Lindsay Lohan, Eva Longoria and Demi Lovato. Meanwhile, the newly wed Kim was spotted on Sunday morning coming out of her hotel with her new hubby wearing a new Juicy Couture tracksuit with the words “Mrs Humphries” on the front. Well, we suppose it’s one way of letting the world know.
As if it wasn’t enough to have one insanely lavish wedding, Kim Kardashian is now planning a SECOND ceremony to her future hubby Kris Humphries in NYC, ten days after the first ceremony in California.
The socialite’s CEO of media, Jason Binn, tweeted about the plans for a second bash: “NY Wedding celebration! @KimKardashian, @KrisHumphries - @colincowie & I are so excited to host. (sic)”
The first ceremony, which is going to be televised, is set to be a glamorous affair. Kim is rumoured to be wearing two different $30,000 custom-designed dresses by the celebrity bridalwear designer Vera Wang. We’re so, so jealous over here.
Kim and Kris are going against tradition by asking their guests to wear black and white to the wedding, instead of the traditional grim shades of pastel, while the bridesmaids are wearing green. Why do brides always choose unflattering shades for their bridesmaids?
Leighton Meester has appeared in the latest Vera Wang advert.
The ‘Gossip Girl’ actress – who signed a two-year deal with the brand last year, which was reportedly worth $3 million – has starred in the fashion designer’s latest commercial for her new scent Vera Wang Lovestruck.
The 25-year-old beauty – who is also a spokesperson for shampoo product Herbal Essences – filmed the broadcast in New York City in November – and she is set to appear in both TV and print ads for the perfume.
In the ad, Leighton is shown waiting at the top of a fire escape as a mystery man clambers up the stairs clutching onto a bunch of pink flowers.
The pair finally embrace and Leighton sends the flowers flying over the side of the building, before the scent bottle, which has a clear and pink style, appears onscreen.
Leighton has previously said she does not take any notice of people that refer to her as a fashion icon, pointing out she simply wears whatever she wants.
She added: “‘Gossip Girl’ has absolutely changed my style. And living in New York I’ve become more brave and aware of fashion.
“I completely close my eyes to it when people call me a fashion icon because it’s an opinion from people that I don’t know. I wear what I like.”
It was a weekend of celebrity weddings as both Chelsea Clinton and Alicia Keys took the plunge. Both ladies walked down the aisle in Vera Wang, Chelsea in a strapless A-line number and Alicia in a Grecian inspired frock.
You can visit our sister site Bridalwave for all the bridal goss of the weekend, but over here at ShinyStyle we thought it was time we pitted the two brides against each other in the style stakes. They may have gone for the same wedding dress designer on their big days but this is where their fashion similarities end.
Understandably so when you consider Alicia is an R ‘n’ B singer and Chelsea is the daughter of the former president.
While Alicia goes for glitz at events (she wore a huge glitter ball gown to one) Chelsea goes for the classic look, opting for shift dress or her trademark blazer, shirt and trousers. And although Chelsea tries to play it casual at times, her look seems to get stuck between preppy and scruffy with flip-flops and frizzy curls.
On the other hand Alicia’s casual look is far better put together, usually consisting of jeans. If she decides to wear her hair curly she’ll also have it styled and defrizzed.

Is Dancing with the Stars about to get an injection of style?
The rumor mill claims that Vera Wang has signed on to star in the next season of TV’s celebrity dance show, due to premiere September 21.
As we all know, Vera trained as a figure skater before embarking on a long career in fashion. She even competed in the 1968 US National Championships and tried out for the Olympics in the same year. Later, she designed outfits for Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan.
I wonder if we’ll get to see some of her moves on the dance floor. In any case, she is bound to have the best costumes in the competition.
It was all in the details for Vera Wang yesterday, when she presented her spring ’09 collection which centred around the accessories. Playing to her signature strengths of draping and delicate embellishment, it was the jewellery that made the biggest statement. Thickly encrusted motorcycle and bib necklaces hung low against loosely layered shift dresses, and stretchy leggings. It may not appeal to everyone’s taste, nor will it create the biggest ripples at fashion week, but it was a pleasure to see Wang transform simple shapes into things of beauty.
Launched a couple of days ago iGoogle received a trendy makeover from some of the fashion world’s top designers in time for New York Fashion week. Vera Wang, Burberry and Michael Kors are some of the stylish names who have lent their designer touch to the site. I’m plumping for Stella McCartney‘s lipsmacking lollipop wallpaper. Kiss and Make Up’s Zara was there at the New York launch to see how it looks and works.
Fashion and technology unite yet again to create a style-fueled frenzy for the latest gadget. Vivianne Tam is creating a limited edition computer with Hewlett Packard so the chic geek can have her fashionable accessory and shop online with it too.
Tam followed in the footsteps of Vera Wang who designed a series of skins for HP laptops. But no copycat, Tam has gone down this route before when she designed a signature-red MP3 player.
An after party following Tam’s spring 09 show on September 9 will serve double duty as a celebration of the new HP collaboration as well.
