Fashion designers and models have designed a range of bears to help blind teenagers get a feel for fashion.
Twiggy, Betty Jackson, Lulu Guinness, Vivienne Westwood and Matthew Williamson have designed and dressed Steiff Bears for the charity Living Paintings, which helps blind children and adults. The bears will be auctioned at the V&A on the evening of February 25th 2010 and the proceeds will help the charity develop new feely images to help blind teenagers get to grips with the fashion choices open to them.
Lulu Guinness who designed her bear to wear her signature colours of black, white and red, said: “My bear is wearing one of my Beret purses on his head, with a lovely black and white stripey bow around his neck and I’ve put him inside one of my tote bags. I thought it was fun to inject an element of fashion into my bear design, because I believe Fashion is something that should not be taken too seriously. I hope that blind teenagers can interact with this and enjoy.”
If you want to get your hands on one of these bears then call Living Paintings on 01635 299771. Bids for any of the bears can be taken on the night in person or by phone, or in advance.
Jeans can be a little boring, especially if they are just the standard off the rack . However, one new line that promises to be the opposite is Vivienne Westwood’s range for Lee jeans.
According to WWD, the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania and Lee collection, will reflect the designer’s punky edgy style.
It will include superskinny jeans and microshorts for women, along with bondage jeans and skinny jeans for men. Washes will run from indigo denim to metallic gold- and copper-colored denim to denim printed with a trompe l’oeil lace design.
Carlo D’Amario, managing director of Vivienne Westwood said: “It is very important for us to work with a denim brand like Lee with such a strong heritage.”
It’s unknown when the range will hit the shops but when they do prices will range from £80 to £200. We better get saving then.
Showing to a crowd that included Kanye West, Nicola Roberts, David Walliams, Siouxie Sioux, Erin O’ Connor, Leah Wood, Lily Cole and Jamie Winstone (on the second row) Vivienne Westwood Red Label needed to deliver. And what the collection lacked in imaginative new ideas it made up for in paparazzi-friendly showmanship with the likes of Jo Wood, Daisy Lowe and Alice Dellal modelling the collection. Ever since it was confirmed that Pamela Anderson was, in fact, starring in Vivienne Westwood’s spring/summer ’09 campaign and it wasn’t a joke, I have been eagerly awaiting the pics. We’ve heard everything from the shoot location (inside a trailer park supposedly) to who joined Pammy in the ads (Viv and her husband, Andreas Kronthaler). Now those ads have been revealed, and as I predicted they aren’t your usual glossy fashion fare. Am I a fan? I’m afraid the jury is still out for me, but what do you think? Tell us below.

Apparently, you don’t want to get Vivienne Westwood started on tweed. Oh, who are we kidding, yes we do! Her fave? Harris tweed.
The cloth is handwoven by the islanders of Lewis, Harris, Uist and Barra in their homes, using pure virgin wool that has been dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides off Scotland.
“You can’t make a bad anything with it. It lends itself to the body. The texture is brilliant; it’s tactile, yet it will take a form and hold it. And the colours are so atmospheric. It’s a misty, British thing,” Westwood said. “The clouds are lower as they come across the Atlantic, you don’t have the high clouds and blue sky of the Continent.”
It can be hard to dress seasonally-appropriate on a cold, rainy day like today in the Northeast. It can be way easier to throw on a winter sweater that has yet to be put away than to choose a nice spring outfit that will also keep you warm.
Isabelle over at Catwalk Queen says “There’s nothing guaranteed to lift my spirits more than a picture of the wide-eyed Masha, except maybe a picture of the wide-eyed Masha with eye make-up that makes her peepers even bigger!” It seems the “dead socialite” look was alive and rocking at the Christian Dior fall 08 show in Paris. Galliano hemmed in his usual kookyness to produce a retro slice of psychedelia. For more, see the whole story here.
New York and London are behind us, Milan is winding down, and the next stop is Paris! The fashion capital is getting ready to present its fall 2008 Pret-a-Porter collections, many of which are held at the Le Carrousel du Louvre, above.
The shows start Saturday, but we’re most looking forward to Christian Dior, who shows Monday along with Vivienne Westwood and Yohji Yamamoto. For the schedule of more highlights we’re looking forward to, keep reading.
The Christian Dior ready-to-wear spring 2008 collection was smokin’! John Galliano celebrated the 60th Anniversary of Christian Dior with steamy hot ’20s through ’40s-themed designs depicting all the styles he’s created throughout his 10-year career with Dior. Set to the beat of Sting’s “Englishman in New York” as the perfect ‘mood’ music, Galliano debuted with his renowned pant suit in the form of a three-piece pin-stripe with a chic hardware-accented baret. His other designs primarily consisted of trench coats, zebra and leopard print, leaf patterned pencil skirt sets, and pagoda-shouldered renditions of his Madame Butterfly collection. And oh how we loved the accessories galore! Big, fabulous handbags, dazzling jewelry, strappy heels, and of course, sexy vintage-inspired hats. Check out more photos from the show after the jump.
Since Caravan brings a variety of designer fashions to their customers at their homes, hotels, or offices with Caravan Mobile, it seems only fitting that they bring a variety of designers from around the world to their fashion week presentation. It was a real change of pace and exciting opportunity to see a lot of different designer’s pieces – like Vivienne Westwood, Social Atelier, Loomstate, Edun and more – all in one show. Plus, it was one of my only chances to see menswear this week, and I saw an actress from two of my favorite teen dramas! Keep reading to find out who!
