Britain’s Duchess Catherine has reportedly turned down an opportunity to appear on the front cover of US Vogue.
The 29-year-old royal – who married Prince William in April – was asked by the prestigious magazine’s editor Anna Wintour to appear in a spread but has declined the offer because she doesn’t want to be seen as a fashion icon.
A source told E! News: “Both William and Kate feel it would be wrong for Kate to promote herself as a fashion or style icon. That’s not what they are about and they take their royal duties far too seriously for that.”
Catherine was also said to be wary of upsetting William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, as she knows the monarch wouldn’t have been too keen on the idea.
The source continued: “Kate is keenly conscious that while her new grandmother-in-law may not chide her for appearing on a Vogue cover. But she would definitely not be amused, and Her Majesty is a real genius at making people squirm with simply a look or a ‘tut, tut.’
“To be brutally honest, a request to sit down with The Times, the BBC or one of the major American networks to discuss the monarchy in general is one thing. For Kate to be photographed draped in the latest creation of a couture house to, knowingly or otherwise, self-promote her status as some sort of fashion horse is something quite different.”

Diane Von Furstenberg came in 91st in the Top 100 Power List
Forbes have just released their 2011 top 100 list of the most powerful people in the world, and we were totally excited to see some of our favourite sartorialists had made the cut – and so many girls! GIRL POWER! It makes me want to put on a Union Jack dress and do lots of high kicks like Ginger Spice.
We were really happy to see that both Beyonce and Lady Gaga had made it into the top 20 on the Power List, which they must be feeling pretty damn good about right now. Lady Gaga literally just missed making it into the top 10 as she came in at 11th place, while Beyonce was came in at a more-than-respectable 18th place.
One of our favourite women designers, the right honourable Diane Von Fursternberg ranked in 91st place. To me it seems that she should have scored a little higher for designing the wrap dress alone, but then again this is only out of 100 people in the world so it’s still a big honour.
The eco-warrior Angelina Jolie was unsurprisingly nearer the top end of the list in 29th, but what else do you expect from one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood? Her and Brad also came into the Forbes top 10 Rich Couple List, too.
The scary and iconic Anna Wintour, editor of American Vogue, was also on the list in 69th place but isn’t sure if she likes the label of being a “powerful woman”. Anna said: “I don’t think of myself as a powerful person,” she said. “You know, what does it mean? It means you get a better seat in a restaurant or tickets to a screening or whatever it may be. But it is a wonderful opportunity to be able to help others, and for that I’m extremely grateful. I assure you all the people that work with me on a day-to-day basis don’t think that. That’s just something that’s been fabricated by the media. And as you well know once something is out there, particularly in today’s world, it just gets exaggerated. I keep my head down and do the job to the best of my ability.” And you never make anyone carry you up the stairs when you’re tired, no sir. No sirrreeee, yep.

Someone is going to get into a lot of trouble for this. Yes you did read it right, Vogue Italia has just ruin a gallery of images where it features ‘ Slave earrings.‘ I don’t think there’s any real need for Shiny Style to say a great deal – just read those comments.
Like this one…
Are you SERIOUS? I hope that you get truly humiliated for this worldwide vogue. This is disgraceful. You should be ashamed. Since when does an african design for earrings become a “slave” design.
As of Monday lunchtime the feature was still on the site. Hope it gets removed very soon.

Christopher Bailey admits Burberry was in an “old rut” when he joined.
The designer started at the fashion house in May 2001 as creative director before being made chief creative director in November 2009 and says there was a lot of work to do to make the brand more modern.
He said: “I never wanted to be a number one person; I was always happy being a number two person. When I joined Burberry, I was 29 – a kid – and Burberry was very old, not specifically in age, but in its mindset. Burberry was just in an old rut. There was no energy whatsoever, it was a company based on past glory.”
Since Christopher joined, the label has experience a huge resurgence and he believes it’s because everyone who works there enjoys their job.
He told Britain’s Vogue magazine: “We’re a young team, but we’re now. We’re the biggest grower in the FTSE, with over 7,000 employees. And it’s serious, and I take that as a serious responsibility – the decisions we’re making affect a lot of people’s lives – and it’s busy. It’s fun!
“You can either decide this is a hellish nightmare or you can decide this is fun. What I’ve learnt is, I’m quite thirsty for moving on, for newness. I love new projects.”

Looking darkly glamorous in lots of black lace at the première of Black Swan
A certain raven-haired French beauty has been popping up at every event recently, and it’s about time we showed her some respect for her darkly glamorous and sexy approach to fashion. Yep, it’s It-girl Julia Restoin Roitfeld, poster girl for Tom Ford and daughter of the brilliant Carine. She’s been silently and mysteriously popping up in the front row for all the biggest fashion shows now, hanging out with the likes of Leigh Lezark and other fashion glitterati, but for some reason unknown we haven’t written a “Get the look” for her yet. So here you go, readers!
What we love about Julia, despite enviably good genes and very shiny hair, is her slightly shambolic approach to fashion. Swathes of black lace, trailing skirts, witch boots and slightly fetish-y leather are all key essentials to her look, no matter what the occasion. Reminiscent of the likes of Mary-Kate Olsen and Helena Bonham-Carter before her, Julia has the ability to look as if whatever she’s wearing has just been thrown on at the last minute. She may wear little to no colour, ever, but when the goth look is working so well for you why stop?
Luckily for any hopeful copycats, you don’t need to be the friend of a trillion designers like Julia to achieve this look – the gothic lace trend is still going strong on the high street at totally affordable prices, and little black dresses will never go out of fashion. If you want to give dressing like Julia a go, check out the gallery above for our favourite pieces. And when it comes to dressing head to toe in lace and sheer peekaboo fabrics, pile it on – when it comes to the Restoin Roitfeld school of fashion, more is more.

Emma Roberts looked cute and on-trend in a fedora hat and skinny jeans in Los Angeles yesterday
Mandatory Credit: WENN.com
There’s nothing we love better than trawling through paparazzi pictures here at Shiny Style, and today was no exception – we had a good hard look to see which mahoosive stars were out partying and looking glam across the pond yesterday.
Some of New York’s finest were out in full force yesterday for a ”Green Auction” benefit at Christie’s in NYC – actress and style icon Diane Kruger tripped in on the arm of fashion designer Jason Wu in a gloriously old-fashioned little black dress with a white silk petticoat, demure high heels and a fishtail plait, while editor-at-large of American Vogue, Anna Wintour, was her normal scary fashion self in a leather and floral midi-dress which showed off her tiny frame.
Nicki Minaj turned up looking crazy and amazing as normal in a microscopically tiny leather playsuit with a green beehive – we love. Also there was The City star Olivia Palermo, who looked impeccable in a lace-effect blouse and a digital-printed pleated skirt – if you want to know how to combine prints without making it look like a crazy mess, she’s the girl to look to.
At a launch event in Nevada, Pamela Anderson was out with her mandem in a floor-length white number and absolutely enormous hair.
Meanwhile our favourite stars of the silver screen were spotted enjoying some down-time in their neighbourhoods – prodigal actress Emma Roberts was seen out and about in Los Angeles looking cute and on-trend in a camel fedora hat and skinny jeans, teamed with demure little ballet flats. We wish we looked this good on our day off. Back in the Big Apple, actress Naomi Watts was spotted nonchalantly sporting classic Ray-Ban sunglasses and a khaki parka while she was out about about.
To see who we spotted in the US yesterday, check out the gallery above.

Kate Winslet thinks the public believe she is a “fat Viking”.
The 35-year-old actress – who is well known for defending her curvy figure – is often complimented on how good she looks, leading to her presuming people think of her as bigger than she is.
She said: “It seems to me I look very different from how people expect me to be.
“Clearly they think I’m a great big fat Viking. My body is different through nothing other than my being older. My clothes fit me the same way they’ve fitted me for the last five, six years. And of course I was a lot more voluptuous then.”
However, she admits she is less keen to talk about her body now because its “hypocritical”.
Kate added to Britain’s Vogue magazine: “I felt I had to defend my body and took a very public stand, which I still absolutely believe in. But I’ve stopped talking about it now. And, at a certain point, it does become hypocritical.”
Despite not wanting to talk about her figure, Kate’s face is becoming more important to her and she often notices how she is gaining wrinkles.
The ‘Revolutionary Road’ star explained: “I’m more aware of things like wrinkles on my face. They’re becoming much more pronounced, because that’s the muscle I use the most when acting. But it’s my face. So, whatever.”

As the end of the year draws to a close and we start looking forward to the beginning of 2011, we’ve decided to do a little reminiscing over the past year. Who’s designed the best collections, who’s worn what, who’s launched this and whose names we should know. Below is the top 10 countdown of our favourite all-time fashion moments over 2010, the ones that we think have been the most important. Check it out below.
10. Lady Gaga's infamous meat dress
Whether you loved it or hated it, the meat outfit that Gaga wore to the VMAs this year certainly got people talking. Her choice of dress material raised severe criticism from animal rights groups such as PETA - her claim that the message of the outfit was that she was "not a piece of meat" was met with some cynicism. Was she being avant-garde, or just extreme for the sake of extreme?

Lady Gaga’s eccentric fashion sense has inspired and attracted equally quirky Zandra Rhodes.
The Brit designer has told Vogue that she would love to dress the pop princess, saying: “I just love how she puts her own take on things – I could make her a transparent kaftan and she’d look fabulous.
“One could do something quite extraordinary with her.”
She also told the magazine how she would like to have the singer round to the studio for a fitting.
“If she did ever want me to design her something, I’d do what I did with Freddie Mercury and Queen – I’d just get her to come over and she could pick out the sort of thing she fancied and I’d work with that,” said Rhodes. “It’s all about seeing how something moves. She could try a few pieces on and we could go from there.”

It’s never too late to learn new talents even when you’re already a famous popstar.
Not content with selling millions of albums Lady Gaga has decided to further her fashion fancies.
She’s decided to create her own unique headwear under an internship of milliner Phillip Treacy who has in the past designed headpieces for Ms G’s outrageous outfits.
A spokesman told Vogue: “The request came through quite a while ago.
“They get on well and she has applied for an internship although nothing has been confirmed yet.”

Celebrity Style, charity
By Andrea Petrou on May 11th, 2010

We’re not ashamed to admit we’re slightly envious of celebrities. They get to don pretty dresses, get their make-up done and turn up to glamorous parties. However, it seems that they too can have one dress too many and what’s the best way to clear them out? Donate them to charity of course. This is something Brit actress and ShinyStyle favourite Carey Mulligan has decided to do.
The starlet is joining the likes of Elle Macpherson and Alexa Chung and donating the Vionnet frock that she wore this year to accept her Best Actress award, to Oxfam, to raise money for the charity’s women’s projects.
Carey told Vogue: “I’m honored to be able to donate my Bafta dress to support Oxfam’s work helping women living in extreme poverty across the world.”
The dress will have a starting bid of £50 and will be auctioned alongside other items from 10am onwards on Thursday 13 May.
Funds raised from the sale of the dress will go to Oxfam’s women’s projects across the world to support vulnerable women.

Lady Gaga has once again roped Armani into her crazy world of fashion. The designer who has in the past created a range of outfits for the singer, including those she wore at the Grammy awards, created the outfit for Lady G’s much talked about performance on American Idol, which was filmed last night.
Armani told Vogue: “American Idol is a real modern phenomenon that has captured the public’s imagination and delivers great drama.
“To complement the spirit of Lady Gaga herself, I have let my imagination run free, and the outfit I have created for her for American Idol performance is pure fantasy.”
The outfit last night was a typical Gaga get-up consisting of a silk mesh bodysuit embroidered with Chantilly lace and crystal and jet beading. Miss G teamed this up with a silk organza cape, embroidered hood and black patent stiletto boots.

Models are no longer just pretty faces, they’re also exceptionally bright. Lily Cole has been happily studying at Cambridge for the past few years and Emma Watson (if you count her stint at Burberry as modelling) has shipped herself off to America to continue her studies.
Next to show us her brainy side is Rimmel girl Georgia May Jagger, who, according to Vogue has chosen to focus on her A-Levels, which she’ll be taking in June, over modelling commitments.
Her agent Tori Edwards at TESS, told the magazine: “She’s studying sociology, photography and art, and that’s her only focus right now – especially after being stranded in NY last week, where she was shooting the new Hudson campaign, because of the ash cloud. She is thinking about further studies after she finishes school and wants to do well in her exams.”
