Vogue Italia scores massive own goal with ‘Slave Earrings’

By Elisabeth on August 22nd, 2011

Someone is going to get into a lot of trouble for this. Yes you did read it right, Vogue Italia has just ruin a gallery of images where it features ‘ Slave earrings.‘ I don’t think there’s any real need for Shiny Style to say a great deal – just read those comments.

Like this one…

Are you SERIOUS? I hope that you get truly humiliated for this worldwide vogue. This is disgraceful. You should be ashamed. Since when does an african design for earrings become a “slave” design.

As of Monday lunchtime the feature was still on the site. Hope it gets removed very soon.

Vogue Italia’s Twitter-themed cover

By lotte on December 4th, 2009

Vogue Italia.jpg It seems that the Twitter trend is spreading to the world of glossy fashion magazines. Italian Vogue have never been afraid to take risks with their content and covers, as their issue featuring only black models this summer proved. For December they’re producing an issue inspired by Twitter and Twitpic.

The cover features Gisele, Lara Stone, Christy Turlington, Kasia Struss and Natalia Vodianova in photos they took themselves. Glimpses of the editorial inside show a Twitpic-style spread, shot by Stephen Meisel and called MeiselPic, with models casually posing and having fun in what will probably turn out to be really expensive clothes.

Considering a lot of models are already avid Twitterers – Jessica Stam and Chanel Iman regularly update theirs – is Vogue Italia ridiculing their tendency to reveal too much, or just jumping on the Twitter bandwagon?

We’re not sure, but one thing it made us all-too-aware of is how, sadly, we’re never going to look as good as these models in our own uploaded photos. Sigh.

ShinyStyle Gallery: Emma Watson in Vogue Italia

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on September 16th, 2008

From a Teen Vogue cover with “Harry Potter” costar Daniel Radcliffe to her own couture spread in Vogue Italia, Emma Watson is certainly moving up in the world of fashion. One might say she has us bewitched. (Sorry, couldn’t help it.) As these images from the September issue attest, she can certainly pull off the couture. We’re thinking the premiere of the final Harry Potter film might require something in this vein.

Which black models were chosen for Vogue Italia? We’ll tell you.

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on June 19th, 2008

After months of speculation as to who has scored the cover of Italian Vogue’s July ’08 issue, featuring only black models, the time has finally come to reveal all…

italianvogue_allblackcover.jpg

The fold-out cover stars (from left to right) Liya Kebede, Sessilee Lopez, Jourdan Dunn, and Naomi Campbell. Under the careful eye of editor Franca Sozzani, and photographer Steven Meisel, the ground-breaking issue is a welcomed sight for many who have long campaigned for equal rights in the fashion industry, but will it help to bring about change?

Gold snake cuff by Alexis Bittar

By Elaine LaPersonerie on September 25th, 2007

I just adore Alexis Bittar! I’m not the only one, am I? Check out his hand-painted, hand-carved gold snake cuff adorned with citrine eyes. It’s so amazing and worth every dollar–in this case $135 and available at Alexis Bittar. He just has such an amazing background…much like an emerging designers fairytale coming out! In 1990, he started his line of lucite jewelry using turn-of-the-century talique glass and shortly after, his line of stainless and lucite furniture was being shown at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in NYC.
