Fashion meets technology: LED light dresses as seen on Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Rihanna

By Andrea Petrou on October 4th, 2011

Although we love the latest trends over here at ShinyStyle, sometimes we like to cast our minds a little bit further afield. And today is one of those days.

After seeing X Factor’s Kitty wearing an LED light leotard during bootcamp we began to think about how this technology has firmly wormed its way into the fashion world.

Most of this can be blamed on Katy Perry who kicked started this look way back in 2009 when she wore a purple frock complete with LED light detailing from designers Cute Circuit. She has since been spotted in a range of these at events ranging from premieres to the MET Gala.

And her style choice has filtered down to other celebrities. Queen of quirk Lady Gaga opted for an LED light outfit for her tour, while Katy’s BFF Rihanna took a leaf out of her style book and was spotted in a black and red LED frock during her concert.
And its not just the celebrity world that’s gone mad over this trend with the likes of Atton Conrad and Hussein Chalayan also opting for this look for part of their catwalk collections.

Selena Gomez is asking her fans to help create her new perfume

By emilyborrett on August 25th, 2011

The Disney star Selena Gomez loves her fans so much that she wants them to help her choose the ingredients for her new perfume.

Selena, who has a very will-we-won’t-we relationship with Justin Bieber, has encouraged her fans to vote for what ingredients they like best on Selenagomezperfumes.com because she wants them to feel “special”.

The teen star said on the new project: “I am excited to make my own fragrance that is romantic, rich and sweet – I wanted to make a fragrance that is able to make my fans feel special.” What’s more, the first 50,000 fans to vote on their favourite ingredients will get a free sample of the scent once it’s finished. Selena loves you, guys, she really, really loves you.

The scent has been a long time coming now as Selena’s been working on it for almost a year. That’s dedication! The starlet said: “I’ve been working on my fragrance for almost a year now. I’m excited, because it’s something I’m interested in. I’m already doing the whole process of smelling things and designing it and the campaign and everything, so it’ll be fun.”

Yay or nay?: X-Factor Tulisa’s new hair

By emilyborrett on August 18th, 2011

Yesterday was the X Factor Press launch in London’s leafy Greenwich, and we couldn’t resist having a gander at the paparazzi photos to have another gawp at our new line-up of judges. Neither could we help staring long and hard at Tulisa Contostavlos’ new hair, which has acquired some yellowy stripy bits in it all of a sudden.

We all know that dip-dyeing (the ends of your hair being lightened for a surfer girl look) is a big hair trend at the moment, but we’re not sure about the streaky chunks of blonde at the top of Tulisa’s hair.. Maybe it’s just us but we thought that streaky hair was finally a thing of the past – but maybe that’s just us. Personally we preferred the N-Dubz singer’s dark chocolatey locks..

What do you think? Vote in the poll below to let us know whether you think Tulisa’s new dye-job is a do or a don’t.

See pictures from The X-Factor press launch here.

Friday Fashion Fracas: Lady Gaga VS Miley Cyrus

By Andrea Petrou on June 18th, 2010

Lady Gaga may currently be holding the crown for the most outrageously dressed singer but if rumours are to believed it’s hanging there by a thread.

According to various sources around the internet the starlet could soon be replaced by the once innocent Miley Cyrus who has shed her girl next door image for provocative clothing.

The 17 year old has been pictured in teeny tiny clothing, corsets and of course PVC, all of which Lady G has been pioneering for a good few years now. She’s also gone one step further than Miss G going pantless, trying to do lesbian kisses on stage (Lady Gaga successfully did this on her Telephone video) and being groped by her background male dancers at times.

And it also seems Kristen Stewart is becoming more of a fan. The Twilight actress said that although she listens to both Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus’s music on repeat it’s the latter that has struck a chord with her.

However, we’re not entirely convinced about this. Firstly Lady G is never off duty with her wacky outfits and unlike Miley, she would never be caught in skinny jeans. In fact Miley’s current stage style, even down to flashing her bottom are all Lady Gaga inspired. And she hasn’t showed us any individuality (we’re waiting for her to be pictured in a Lady G headpiece). So until we see something completely outrageous we’re still rooting for Miss G.

What do you think? Do you like Miley’s new style or has she still got a long way to go before she reaches the outrageous heights of Lady Gaga. View the gallery below and then vote and let us know.

Sheer sophistication or sheer madness?

By Andrea Petrou on August 20th, 2009

Mischa BartonNow we’re pleased to see that Mischa Barton is looking healthier after her recent stint in a psychiatric hospital, and she’s most definitely making the most of it, with this sheer dress, minus a bra.

This takes me back to the days; well it must have been at least ten years ago, that the bra under a sheer top was the fashion must have.

I remember trying to sneak out of the house with my mother following me close behind waving a camisole (yes she called it that) and telling me to put it on to hide my modesty.

Now although this fashion has clung on by a sheer thread over the past few years, with designers always introducing at least one bra flashing garment, it seems that it’s getting bigger again.

Only recently were celebrities including Louise Redknapp and Victoria Beckham being snapped left right and centre flashing their bras. But does this look really say sophistication or do we risk making a boob of ourselves? Tell us what you think by voting below.
