ShinyStyle review: Havaianas wellies launch at Selfridges

By Andrea Petrou on April 18th, 2011
Sponsored post

The rainy weather may be clearing and the summer on its way but that doesn’t mean we have to say goodbye to those wellies. In fact, with festival season just around the corner, these rubber boots are once again making a comeback.

Last Thursday we were given an introduction to the festival season, minus the mud, rain, and erm camping, when Havaianas took over the Ultra Lounge at Selfridges turning it into a festival fantasy land complete with hay bales, grass and of course the token celebrity, to celebrate the launch of their wellies.

That’s right our fave party poppets including Jameela Jamil and Daisy Lowe were out in force. Jameela Jamil looked hot in an orange halter top, while Daisy Lowe, who was also DJing at the event, went for a silky maxi dress. Laura Whitmore also looked hot in an assemble of black. When Daisy wasn’t on the decks we were treated to music from artist Jamie Woon as well as dance artists ‘Brazilian Fantasy’ who took to the floor and created dance frenzy toward the end of the night.

Add to that the free flow of caipirinha’s and other Brazilian cocktails by Sagatiba and foods including Tacos, Fajitas, Mini Fish n’Chips & Burgers and the company gave us that dream festival feel. Take note festival organisers we want this kind of treatment all summer.

However, the real stars of the night were of course the brand new wellies, which we fell in love with. Bright pinks with grey trimmings, purples, greys with pink trimmings and of course on-trend khaki green were all colours on display. Those feeling a little bit more daring also have a choice of a summer beach theme and for £45 a pair they really are a wardrobe must have.

See the gallery below for all the celebrity action and for some peeks of the boots.

Glastonbury: The festival style so far.

By Andrea Petrou on June 24th, 2010

Although Glastonbury doesn’t properly kick off until tomorrow festival goers have already been turning up in their droves pitching up their tents and showcasing the latest festival fashions.

So far, it’s been pretty low key. Girls have opted for on-trend florals and flip-flops, while others have gone for denim shorts and of course the festival trend of wellington boots (if you still haven’t got yours then see our gallery here). Others have gone for leggings under long tees and there’s been an abundance of Trilby hats as the sun, for once, shines.

However, there’s always one that has to go a wacky step further and the prize today goes to the gentleman in the orange bikini, which hardly leaves anything to the imagination. We hope you’ve had your lunch girls.

View the gallery below for day one of Glasto festival fashion. But we also want to hear from you. Are you at the festival or heading down for the weekend? If so we want your help. Take a picture of your festival attire and send it over to us at Andrea@shinymedia.com. The best dressed will get a mention and their picture on the site next week.

Trend alert: Our top five Glastonbury wellies

By Andrea Petrou on June 24th, 2010

The festival season has well and truly begun with many heading to Glastonbury over the next few days. Although the weather is predicted to stay warm, there’s always the risk of rain (well it wouldn’t be Glasto without it) so we’ve decided to put together a gallery of festival boots for those travelling up to the festival on Friday.

However, take note other festival goers because this will also come in handy throughout the summer and for other festivals.

And even if it doesn’t rain, it’s a well known fashion fact that wellies are a hot must-have for these events. Team them up with little shorts and skirts for a perfect festival look.

Gallery: Wellington boots to help you survive the snowy weather and keep your feet warm during those train delays

By Andrea Petrou on January 6th, 2010

With the snow hitting every part of Britain, getting out and about and into work could prove difficult, especially for those of us who face train cancellations and don’t have the right footwear. Soggy shoes and socks, are after all not a good start to a working day, once you finally get in, or if you just want to bring out your childlike side and start a snowball fight.

In this type of weather the only shoe that will get us through the day is either a snow or ski boot. However we assume many of you won’t want to fork out for these, so we’ve put together a gallery of the next best alternative, and that’s of course the trusty wellington boot.

Yes, we know, many of you haven’t seen one of these since you were a child, unless you were one of those girls who armed yourself with a pair for last years festivals, but these fantastic plastic and rubber shoes will do the job of keeping out that soggy snow, and there are many fashionable ones out there now. Buy a size bigger and double up on those socks for toasty toes.
