10 pom pom hats to keep your head toasty this winter

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on November 14th, 2012

We love a good pom pom hat here at Shiny Towers. Not only do they remind us of fun skiing holidays, they are also great for accessorising a rather drab winter outfit. You can of course attempt to liven up an existing hat in your wardrobe by making your own DIY pom poms but if you don’t feel like getting your knitting on, here are ten of our favourites from the shops.

Paris Fashion Week Highlights: Louis Vuitton AW 2012

By Andrea Petrou on March 9th, 2012

Louis Vuitton went right back to the 1800s for its AW 2012 collection emulating the wealth of those boarding the Orient Express.

Furs and jewels oozed off models who marched next to a steam locomotive set. Edwardian hats, long coats and ballgowns in metallic fabrics were key items.

The luxury theme continued with porters trailing behind carrying that iconic Louis Vuitton luggage, including statement vanity cases, boxes and small suitcases, which was what the brand is so well known for.

See the gallery below for all the pictures.

Trend Alert: Hat Styles for AW 2011

By Andrea Petrou on November 29th, 2011

Hats are always a must have during these cold winter months but like every garment, these change depending on the trends.

Therefore that wooly hat you had last year may not just cut it. Thankfully we have been keeping our beady little fashion eyes on what’s hot in the hat world this season to ensure you get your look just right, and it’s great news for those mad about these head warmers because there’s a huge amount of styles to choose from.

Take the lead from Burberry and go for a faux fur animal print beret or go right back to 80s ghetto chic with a baseball cap as seen on the Miu Miu catwalk. Give a nod to the military look with a soldier style hat as seen at Moschino or play it cool with a fedora as spotted at D&G and Tommy Hilfiger.

See the gallery below for some designer inspiration.

Top Five: Winter hats

By Andrea Petrou on October 5th, 2011

Despite a mini heat wave trying to trick us into thinking that it was once again summer, waking p to a blustery day has blown us right into a traditional October morning.

And that means one thing – it’s time to really begin getting excited about our winter wardrobe. Although many of you have started stocking up, there’s one must-have that the warm weather may have made you overlook and that’s of course the winter hat.
This year there’s a huge range of styles to choose from. Go for a traditional beret updated with this year’s on-trend leopard print or play it safe with a knitted pom pom hat that’s great teamed up with a casual coat and jeans.

A bakerboy hat is also great teamed up with this season’s must-have cords. However, our fave hat trend this year is the turban, which we think is perfect for giving that exotic feel to the cold weather we’re expecting.

See the gallery below for our top five pick.

Gallery: Stylish Winter hats

By Andrea Petrou on December 4th, 2009

According to many, the place where you loose the most heat is through your head.

We don’t know if this is an urban myth, but one thing we’re sure of is that we’ll try anything to ensure we stay warm over the freezing winter season. And were not alone, with many celebs including Cheryl Cole sporting a range of hats to keep their barnets and brains warm.

So we’ve decided to put together a gallery of hats, which will not only keep you warm but also look stylish, meaning you won’t be embarrassed to leave it on if you suffer from the dreaded hat hair.

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on November 5th, 2008

Refinery 29 has admitted to being rather hat happy and has shown of their topper prowess with a roundup of stylish hats.

This got us thinking. While we often admire hats on others, mostly models and celebrities, we never wear anything other than the standard winter variety ourselves.

What do you think? Yay or nay on the funky hat?

Shop the Trends: Winter hats and scarves

By Andrea Thatcher on October 30th, 2007

I’ve had the toughest time actually finding the latest winter hat trends, but my search finally prevailed, so I thought I’d share my finds with you. Not many department stores are carrying a large selection of chic winter hats. But I did really like this plaid newsboy cap from Nordstrom for $65 (left). Although that seems a bit pricey, so I kept looking and discovered that Urban Outfitters has a great selection of cool wintry hats and stylish scarves. My favorite is the Deux Pointelle Beret (right) in Natural for $24. For more winter couture, continue over to the jump.
