Our top five England World Cup players

By Andrea Petrou on June 23rd, 2010

It’s half time and England seems to be taking this World Cup game a lot more seriously than Friday’s. To celebrate the 1-0 half time result we’ve decided to steer a little bit away from our usual fashion and celebrity posts and give a nod to the England team instead. We’ve picked our top five players from the squad and are giving you a little treat with a gallery of them.
So who are our top five? Firstly we think David James deserves a mention here. Playing as goalkeeper in this game, 40 year old veteran goalkeeper is keeping out the goals.

However he’s also easy on the eye as is Frank Lampard who has previously scored 20 goals in 77 internationals. And lets also not forget Wayne Rooney. He may have been rude to fans on Friday but he’s certainly making up for it today.

We also thought it only right to mention Jermain Defoe who made millions of England fans happy when he scored the first half time goal, oh, and he’s not bad to look at either.
Finally a special mention goes out to captain Steven Gerrard.

View the gallery below to see the footy players and tell us who you think should be crowned as player of the day by leaving your comments below.

Spotted: Cheryl Cole, Michelle Keegan and Katy Perry

By Andrea Petrou on June 14th, 2010

This weekend saw the first England World Cup game against the US, and like many of us it seemed celebrities chose to stay at home and watch it rather than hit the town.

The London scene seemed very quiet, and apart from Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan, who was spotted coming out of the Cafe De Paris night club in a short white dress complete with long train, we didn’t spot too many celebs in the capital this weekend.

Therefore we decided to extend our celebrity search across the UK, and we were pleased we did. In Birmingham we spotted Cheryl Cole/Tweedy wearing light grey skinny jeans, a mesh scoop neck top and heavy jewellery, on her way into the first X-Factor 2010 auditions. She was joined by Konnie Huq – the new presenter of ITV2′s The Xtra Factor – who opted for a simple black and white polka dot dress, and Natalie Imbruglia who wowed in a purple shift dress.

Over in Liverpool WAG Alex Curran popped to the hairdressers wearing a flowing white maxi dress and Gladiator shoes, before the first England World Cup, while Hollyoaks stars Melissa Walton and Gemma Merna partied the night away in a bar.

However, our best dressed award of the weekend has got to go to Katy Perry who sported a cute PVC dress depicting half the UK and USA flags for the World Cup Live ITV with James Corden. Wow.

Get the look: WAG World Cup Fashion

By Andrea Petrou on June 11th, 2010

The World Cup kicks off today, and tomorrow we’ll be watching England’s first game.

However, as we’ve said before not not huge fans of the great game so we’ve been trying to find a fun way to get into the spirit and that’s of course through fashion.

But this time we’re not talking about the huge range of World Cup fashion out there. We’re instead talking about WAG’s style.

It’s no secret that the wives and girlfriends of our footie stars spend a fortune on their clothing, especially the likes of Coleen Rooney and fashionista Victoria Beckham, and we know many of you (and us too) can’t afford to splash out.

So we decided to scour the highstreet and find some cheaper alternatives to some outfits worn by Christine Bleakley, Abi Clancy, Alex Curren and of course Victoria and Coleen.

View our gallery for some WAG World Cup fashion looks.

World Cup fashion face-off: USA vs UK fashions

By Andrea Petrou on June 11th, 2010

I don’t claim to be very much of a football fan, but in these times you can’t avoid it. It’s literally everywhere! Luckily, the World Cup has managed to find a way into my life in a perfectly acceptable way – in the way of fashion.

The fashion website very.co.uk are having a fashion face off for the World Cup games – putting together styles inspired by the World Cup countries and seeing who comes out as the most popular one. Up first is England vs USA with the British look embodying Kate Moss at Glastonbury with a summer parka, wellies, slouchy denim shorts and tees, and of course lots of lovely accessories including some fabulous retro sunglasses.

The USA look is inspired by the ‘preppy college girl’, which is actually quite nice too and has little touches like oversized check shirts, cut-off denim jeans and hoodies, as well as sports style inspired footwear like Converse.

In the style stakes though, I’ve stuck with supporting the home team! I think the British look is far better than the USA one but thinking about the upcoming countries that will be featured – Spain, Argentina and South Africa – I think we might have some trouble competing against flamenco inspired dresses and safari chic in the later rounds.

You can vote now at the very.co.uk site for your favourite countries’ style and you might even be inspired to try out a completely new look – far better than watching the football.

And look out next week for our World Cup inspired fashion galleries.

Shakira will perform at a World Cup opening concert in Roberto Cavalli

By Andrea Petrou on June 8th, 2010

Shakira.jpg

The World Cup season is nearly upon us and we’re getting ready for the month where the credit cards come out as we go shopping and leave our other halves to it (unless England are playing of course).

However one thing we will be looking forward to is seeing Shakira perform in a concert in Johannesburg on Thursday night to kick off the World Cup.

According to WWD the singer will be clad in a slinky Roberto Cavalli outfit consisting of a
zebra-print jumpsuit and fringed skirt. It is thought she’ll also be singing her latest single, “Waka-Waka,” and the World Cup anthem.

Alicia Keys, Black Eyes Peas, John Legend and the Soweto Gospel Choir are also slated to hit the stage. We can’t wait to see the pics!

Gallery: Our top 20 stylish wags from Victoria Beckham to Christine Bleakley

By Andrea Petrou on June 3rd, 2010

The England players have left for South Africa to begin the World Cup training today and many have left their wags behind for a few weeks before they go and join them. New to the line up this year is most notably Christine Bleakley, who has been quoted as saying in the press that she is not a WAG and will not be hanging out with the rest of them in South Africa when she goes to watch Frank Lampard.

However is she stylish enough to beat Peter Crouch’s missus Abbey Clancy who was a Britian’s Next Top Model runner up and is known for her love of fashion, or will she befriend England captains Missus Rebecca Ellison who is of the similar mindset.

And we also want to know if Coleen Rooney‘s style going to beat Victoria Beckham‘s this year. Victoria may have a designing debut under her belt but we think Coleen’s got the style too.

But our top 20 doesn’t just include UK Wags, after all this is an international game. So we’ve also found a few fashionable WAGS from France, Germany and Holland including Tatiana Golovin, to spice up the style stakes and we can’t wait to see whose wardrobes are going to be the best.

However, we hope Melanie Slade didn’t get her summer South Africa outfit ready as it seems she’ll be spending all her time with Theo Walcott after he got dropped from the team.

Louis Vuitton designs carry case for the World Cup Trophy

By Andrea Petrou on June 2nd, 2010

Like it or not the World Cup is very nearly upon us. And if you thought you could escape it by sticking your head in the fashion mag sand then think again because footie fever has hit even the biggest designers. One example is Louis Vuitton who has created an 18ct gold travel case to hold the World Cup trophy until it is handed to the winning team in July.

The designer unveiled the travel case, which is covered in Louis Vuitton’s iconic monogram canvas and fitted with the company’s signature brass lock and corners, alongside Naomi Campbell.

Gallery: World Cup fashion to support England in style

By Andrea Petrou on May 12th, 2010

Love it or loathe it you can’t hide from the fact that the World Cup is upon us. We know we’re going to lose our other halves to beer, England and Brazil, but instead of sulking in the corner it may be time we actually thought about joining in.

Now we’re not talking about getting all lager loutish, more having a good look at players and using it as an excuse to get some new clothes.

Over the past few months highstreet chains such as Dorothy Perkins and Miss Selfridge as well as supermarkets such as Asda have gone World Cup crazy producing t-shirts with England logos.

However unlike the older styles from four years back, these World Cup gems have become alot less subtle, huge England flags sprawled along the front have given way to subtle England motifs on on-trend styles.

We have a look at the best ones out there.

Give a nod to the punk trend and support England in the World Cup with these Union Jack tights

By Andrea Petrou on April 29th, 2010

Love it or loathe it the World Cup will shortly be upon us.

We know many of you who despise the footie won’t be happy about losing your other halves for a while, but why not join in and support England in the fashion stakes instead?

Now we’re not talking football shirts here, although we can be sure various highstreet retailers will be selling many “female” versions of these in the next few weeks, instead we advise you think out of the box.

Mix on-trend tights with a patriotic twist instead with these Union Jack tights from Jonathan Aston. Not only will you stand out from the crowd but you’ll also be giving a nod to Vivienne Westwood punk, and we all know that’s going to be hot this year.

World Cup: War of the WAGs

By Andrea Petrou on April 9th, 2010

With the World Cup looming, we’re already dreading having the television taken over by our other halves. That’s not to say we won’t be watching a few of the games, after all, it’s one of the biggest events of the year.

However, being fashion obsessed we thought we’d start off a mini series in the lead up to the big game. Every week we’ll be taking two British WAGs and pitting them against each other in the fashion stakes, the one who get’s the least votes from you will be given a yellow card and then pitted against another yellow card WAG until they get relegated.

So to begin this series we’ve decided to give you a gallery of our ten stylish wags until the competition heats up next week.

Let us know who you think will win the style World Cup.
