Yves Saint Laurent A/W 2011
It’s been a flurry of big names scheduled to show their collections over the past few days, and as Paris Fashion Week nonchalantly draws to a close we have to say that Yves Saint Laurent have been one of our favourites. With a front row collection of stars such as Ronnie Wood, Jane Birkin and Lou Doillon, the atmosphere was already so cool that it didn’t matter if the clothes were any good or not – but any road, they were better than good. They were brilliant.
Much like Galliano’s show earlier this week, Miss Marple-esque tweed skirt suits and fur muffs were present again in the YSL show, nipping in waists and demurely falling above the knee for an outcome that managed to be both vampish and demure. If you’re looking for a good indication of what sort of outerwear to be looking out for once summer has been and gone, look no further than this collection for a strokeable assortment of sharp double-breasted paddington-style coats, which, if you can afford it, will look incredible dressed down with skinny jeans come winter.
Though on first appearances the whole collection may have seemed rather prim, take a second look and check out the PVC and studded detailing around coat collars and necklines, and gold chains used as adornments for dresses and shoes. We absolutely fell in love with the fashion house’s sharp, boxy PVC sleeveless jacket, which managed to give a nod to both the golden age of punk and the possible future of fashion. We love.
Check out the gallery above to see the rest of the photos from the YSL show.

With her announced engagement to Kills rocker Jamie Hince all over the papers and every magazine wanting a piece of her, Kate Moss is still Britain’s favourite style icon. (We’re dying to know what she’ll wear to her wedding.) Which is why we were so happy to see photographs of her stepping out in Paris today to do a spot of shopping at Yves Saint Laurent, looking amazing.
If you’re planning a trip to Paris soon, or are a lucky cow and are being taken by your beau for Valentine’s, take note of her Parisian style – ultra-chic 70s floppy black hat, a sleek grey fur coat, skin-tight black jeans and leopardprint heels so fierce that you can actually hear them growl. This isn’t a look that you need to be a supermodel to rock (though obviously it doesn’t hurt) so don’t be shy – dive right into this look and channel your inner Jane Birkin.
Mossy showed Paris how it's done today in this chic ensemble. A true fashion icon!

Celebrities are becoming huge in the world of campaigns and not a week goes by when we don’t tell you about a new partnership, from Madge for D&G, Cheryl Cole for Loreal and even Beth Ditto for Evans.
However, just as we thought this was becoming the norm it seems some designers are rebelling against these celebrities. According to WWD a recent report has found designers are going back to their roots choosing models over the latest hottest Hollywood celeb.
Designer Stefano Pilati, who is shooting Yves Saint Laurent‘s campaign, said: “Actresses are fantastic, but they’re not models and it’s not easy.”
“[Actresses] have an attitude, but will never be the fashion attitude. To me, fashion photography is with a model; otherwise, it’s a portrait.”
And his views were echoed by Frida Giannini, the creative director at Gucci, who tapped statuesque Raquel Zimmermann for the Italian brand’s fall-winter spots.
“The other issue with celebrities is that they are characters who are often associated with a certain film. I prefer a strong, generic face that’s not related to any world — whether that be music or Hollywood.”
And Karl Lagerfeld always ensures he uses models for his Chanel campaigns, why? “Because I love them: They have the right look and class,” he said.
We’ve already seen a few brands going back to their model roots. One example is St John, which dumped Angelina Jolie in favour for Karen Elson, last year.
But what do you think? Take a look at our gallery of models and actresses in various campaigns and leave your comments below.

The stars once again donned their best frocks last night and hit the red carpet to celebrate the New York premiere of Rossini’s Armida at The Metropolitan Opera House, which judging by the fashion pieces on show, was aptly sponsored by YSL.
Maggie Gyllanhaal wowed in her on-trend nude frock complete with YSL heels, while Chloe Sevigny took a gamble on a love it or loathe it jumpsuit, which we think she pulled off brilliantly.
However our winner of the night has got to be Camilla Belle who really took the red carpet look to the next level with her YSL chiffon frock complete with an onversized on-trend bow.
View the gallery below and tell us who your best dressed of the night is.

Looks like Yves Saint Laurent is simply collecting supermodels for its ad campaigns. After their fall ads featured Naomi Campbell, they’re moving on to Claudia Schiffer for spring.
Schiffer has told WWD that she has shot campaigns for YSL, Dolce & Gabbana and Salvatore Ferragamo for the spring.
Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin photographed YSL’s spring campaign in Los Angeles last month.

Even at the celebratory Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards last night, the memory of legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent was not far from the industry’s mind.
Inspired by Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking Suit and one of the night’s winners, Ashley Olsen donned a Calvin Klein resort 09 tuxedo. Naomi Campbell topped that by wearing vintage YSL, and CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg also wore the symbolic style including a vintage YSL jacket.

The fashion world has awoken today to the sad news that it has lost one of its most beloved designers. Yves Saint Laurent passed away Sunday evening after a long undisclosed illness, aged 71.
The French icon had been battling ill health for some time, and was hospitalised last July with acute respiratory difficulties. According to WWD, he had been bedridden recently, and died at his home yesterday in Paris.

More play with silhouette and proportion in Paris.
Catwalk Queen reviewier Pui-Tien Man says there’s a reason for Yves Saint Laurent’s reputation as one of the most prestigious and luxurious fashion houses: producing one of the sharpest collections to hit the Paris runway, YSL mixed constrasting luxe fabrics with strong angular lines to present an engaging show.
The futuristic met age-old tradition in a YSL-induced collision. Models in identical black bowl-cuts and gothic dark lips set the tone for a modernist look. Accessories were kept to an absolute minimum to allow the cuts to take centre-stage…

To be fair, they’re probably more into charity than they are Dominos, and that’s probably why they flocked to De Grisogono’s Hollywood Dominos tournament benefiting The Art Of Elysium. And we’re really, really hoping this red carpet serves as some sort of glamour barometer for the Oscars on Sunday as almost everyone looked stunning. Continue reading to find out who the stars were wearing.

Accessories that sparkle are flying off the shelves this holiday season. Hmm, could it be because ShinyStyle has been so on top of this trend? Apparently we’re not the only ones who can’t take our eyes off of metallics and are bored by anything matte when dressing for a party. Some of the best sellers? Keep reading.

Behind-the-scenes, almost voyeuristic photos of Yves Saint Laurent preparing for his first solo collection and surprised audience reactions to Dior’s 1962 runway show will be presented to the world in “Paris 1862.” The book of Jerry Schatzberg’s photography shot for Esquire magazine catches fashion celebrities like Diana Vreeland and Jessica Davis in their element. The $800 collector’s print, signed by the artist, launches Nov. 15 in Paris and then in America in November. Next year we can expect Rizzoli, the publisher of the new Ralph Lauren book, to put out an expanded edition that is perhaps more affordable. But, given the $135 price of “Ralph Lauren” it might not be affordable to the masses.

Stacked wooden heels are high on the list (pun very much intended) this season to go with wide-leg trousers and other menswear inspired get-ups. Sister site Shoewawa.com reported on the fabulous pair from Yves Saint Laurent this season, a rounded pale wood heel paired nicely with a pointed patent leather toe, available at Barney’s and Barneys.com for $640. Christian Louboutin makes a fabulous wooden heel pump as well, sold at a rent-busting $735. If you’re not into sitting on a street corner holding a cardboard sign, try the J Shoes Oakley oxford pumps (right), available for $150 at shoes.com.

Good news for YSL lovers! Despite rumors that Italian-born designer Stefano Pilati was considering leaving Yves Saint Laurent parent Gucci Group for another label (possibly Valentino), it has been confirmed through a new multi-year contract that he will remain as creative director. Stefano Pilati will oversee the brand and be in charge of all product categories.
