One beauty trend has taken on the gothic Halloween look this season and that’s the Beetle Juice look. Hot on the Zac Posen AW2011 this look combines metallic blues and darker hues to create a darker side to your make up style.
Pick one single colour for a plainer look or go all out with marble effects and combine blues for a truly scary look at that Christmas or New years eve party.
Add a foundation but keep cheeks simple before adding a gloss to lips.
Lovers of grand, lush eveningwear should get ready to gasp and flutter their hands as we take a look at Zac Posen’s new Spring/Summer 2012 collection, which was showcased at New York Fashion Week this Sunday. The result of another season’s toil over a new collection was a mouth-watering collection of day-dresses and evening gowns which were evocative of old 1940s Hollywood starlets.
What we love about Zac Posen’s work is that he obviously has a woman’s femininity in mind when he designs his gowns – these are designs that would leave the wearer feeling beautiful and special, with a veritable array of dresses with form-fitting dresses that hug in all the right places but artfully skim over the main problem areas. With off-the-shoulder sweetheart necklines, fitted busts and huge silk ruffles, it’s no wonder that Zac Posen is every celebrity’s red-carpet favourite.
As usual some of the gowns are truly spectacular, our absolute favourite being the collection’s black chiffon fishtail gown with an absolutely stunning black chiffon hem that we’re hoping we’ll see a celebrity wearing very, very soon. There’s definitely a darkly glamorous goth vibe to the gowns, as Posen has opted for deep navy, black and wine-red chiffons for an incredibly dramatic effect. The styling for the show was picture-perfect too, with the models wearing absolutely pristine finger waves in their hair and costume jewellery.
A grand salute to Zac Posen and his genius Spring/Summer gowns – ShinyStyle bloody loves ya.
Zac Posen has revealed that he is planning to return to New York Fashion Week after previously showing in Paris.
Zac, who is loved by all women for his sultry, opulent designs, is moving back to New York Fashion Week because he feels “just like it’s the right time”. The designer said: “Paris is wonderful but it just feels like the right time to show in New York.”
His previous collection for Autumn/Winter 2011, which was showed in Paris, was his trademark array of sculptural-looking evening gowns, this time in leather and metallic fabrics for a harder take on the seventies trend – I absolutely cannot wait to see what he comes up with next, whichever city he’s in.
He went on to explain the city change: “For the Zac Posen Collection, I wanted to give a different voice and focus in the international fashion arena. Obviously, New York has been extremely supportive of me and the stars were aligned to base Z Spoke in my hometown. I have learned over the past 10 years to trust my instinct, to have fun with experimentation and to innovate. I do not see this choice as a focus on Europe, rather, it’s about taking a risk, which is something that is important to do as a creator in order to evolve.”
As we told you earlier on today, Mad Men will be making a come back next year.
However, we’re really disappointed to learn that curvy icon Christina Hendricks will not be returning to the show. As a result we thought it only right that we dedicated a post to her amazing style, which has made women all around the globe wish they had curves, and given those lucky enough to have them, the confidence to flaunt them.
Back in August the star made fashion waves when she wore a gorgeous lilac Zac Posen frock for the The Emmys, an usual change to her trademark black. However, just because she favours the classic colour it doesn’t mean her styles are safe.
Like her character, Christina embraces the looks of the 50s and 60s with tea length hems, lace and puffy numbers. Even when she’s dressing down there are hints of this era either through statement accessories or embellishments. Don’t disappear from our screens Christina, we need curvy inspiration.
Crystal Renn was one of the models who showed off Zac Posen’s SS2011 collection this morning. Unlike other designers Posen went for bright colours offering almost Spanish hues of red and orange, mixed with black.
Feathers were abundant showing up in shrugs while ostrich feathers flapped up inside black sheer skirts, and pink ostrich feathers came out of hips and cleavage.
Frocks, or should we say gowns, in silk chiffon and ranging in colours from black pale greeny greys also formed a huge part of the show.
The fashion elite have preened, pouted and donned their best heels for a range of various events at NY Fashion Week either sitting in the front rows of shows or tuning up for parties.
Sarah Jessica Parker turned up at the Diane Von Furstenberg show looking her usual glam self in a cute off the shoulder cherry print gypsy dress, while Nicky Hilton opted for an on-trend leopard print mini dress for the same event. They were joined in the front row by fashion queen Anna Wintour who opted for a classic print maxi dress teamed up with a mac and pearl necklace.
Carmen Electra showed off her, er, assets in a striped dress at Zac Posen while Jennifer Lopez went for a funky black dress and knee high patent boots for Tommy Hilfiger’s 25th anniversary party. She was joined by Kelly Osbourne who opted for a 60s print dress and Mad Men star Christina Hendricks who showed off her curves in a black plunge neck frock.
Rumer Willis also joined the fashion parade at the same event in a classic satin blue long dress.
Milla Jovovich also made an appearance at NYFW posing for photographers in a long blue top, leggings and cage gladiators.

A few weeks after Lara Stone announced her wedding dress designer would be Riccardo Tisci, supermodel Coco Rocha has said she’ll be enlisting the creative talents of Zac Posen for her frock.
We had thought the model, come designer would be designing her own dress but she confirmed the news on Twitter.
“Mr. Zac Posen is the best! I met with him to discuss wedding dress designs and immediately sketches were flying… So exciting!!,” she wrote on her page.
We can’t wait to see the design Coco chooses, and will her dress be better than Miss Stone’s?
We see a real life fashion bride wars coming up quite soon.
It was bound to happen sooner or later, and now it seems that a Facebook-inspired collection is about to hit the runway.
Zac Posen has hinted that his forthcoming spring 2010 collection has been influenced by the popular social networking site.
“[It's] everything that a New York fashion editor is not looking for,” he said. “There’s definitely fashion editors who get really bothered by the fact that I’m out and about and promoting my work. It’s not what they desire as ‘cool,’ or what they think is interesting, and it probably de-myths their own existence.”
Proving further how much designers are utilizing these outlets, Stella McCartney, has just joined the Twittersphere. Follow her updates here.
The CW network has released its fall television schedule, and it’s looking good. Not only am I embarrassingly excited to see Vampire Diaries (I blame Twilight), I’m also quite keen to check out Mischa Barton’s latest show, The Beautiful Life. Centred around the lives of a bunch of models living in New York, it also stars Elle Macpherson and is produced by Ashton Kutcher. Check out a preview of the show above, which also features Zac Posen playing himself.
ALSO, see a sneak peek of the new Melrose Place remake, starring Ashlee Simpson, after the jump…
Zac Posen’s Fall 2009 fashion show was one of the most-talked about of fashion week. It wasn’t just the beautiful couture-level clothes. And it wasn’t only the amazing model watching, yes, Coco Rocha, Lily Donaldson, Alek Wek and Sasha Pivovarova were all there. (I’ll admit to squeeling several times.) But it was the show itself with 5 baby grand pianos on the runway played by the 5 Browns, a brother/sister piano troupe, and the glitz and glamour Posen – and we – love.
We know you’ve got a lot of parties going for the holiday season whether it’s beer at a friend’s house or a grand gala. So throughout the holiday season we’ll be dedicating our Designer Pick of the Week on Tuesdays and our Bargain Pick of the Week on Thursdays to party dresses. So everyone gets tons of inspiration for their own looks, and you can check out fun frocks at various price points.
Today we chose Zac Posen’s silk love dress, $1,800, for its unique color. The lime full-skirted dress with stitch panel detailing will really stand out among the sea of reds and greens at holiday get togethers.
Without a doubt, the run-up to the presidential election has been very fashion-focussed. From Michelle Obama’s high street wardrobe, to Sarah Palin’s $150,000 wardrobe and trademark ‘updo’, image has paid an integral part on proceedings. Zac Posen has jumped on the bandwagon, with this 15-second video asking people to vote for Barack Obama. The film was released on fashionthevote.org – where Zac wants voters to send him pictures of what they’ll be wearing to the polls today. If you haven’t voted yet, what are you doing reading this? Go and make yourself heard!
