Zandra Rhodes would never go out without accessories

By emilyborrett on August 22nd, 2011

The bonkers designer Zandra Rhodes, who is currently working on a new accessories range with Adele Marie, says that she could never be without jewellery or accessories. We know you couldn’t, Zandra, we’ve seen you!

Zandra’s new collection was designed in accordance with her own personal love for trinkets and beads. She said: “Firstly, I never go out without jewellery, ever! When I saw what Adele Marie did I knew that this was jewellery that I could be wearing. As a designer you have to want to wear what you are putting out. I like to get away and take inspiration from the kind of things I want to be wearing. With collaborations it’s different – we merge our ideas and visions together.”

Mama Rhodes’ new collection, basically, is for women like her who aren’t too scared to make a few brave choices about their look.

She told Marie Claire: “It’s for women who just want to wear a unique piece of jewellery. They’re very strong pieces, which emulate me. It’s not shy jewellery; it’s for women who want to make a statement.”

The Olympics gets a fashion fix as the help of Zandra Rhodes is enlisted

Zandra's sketch for the 33-foot puppet which will be unveiled at the 2012 Olympics in London

I have to admit that sports are not my thing. When it was announced that London would be hosting the 2012 Olympics, my first thought was how pointlessly showy and expensive the whole thing will be, and how jam-packed the tubes will be full of tourists. But now the event has piqued my interest, with the news that British fashion veteran Zandra Rhodes is going to be contributing to the celebrations with a 33-foot puppet of Lady Godiva. Yep – that’s right, a giant fashion puppet. That’ll shut up anyone who tries to claim that Brits have no sense of fun.

The lucky Lady Godiva puppet will be decked out in a Medieval-inspired one-of-a-kind dress designed by Zandra Rhodes herself, and made with the helping hands of fashion design students in Coventry, where the legend of Lady Godiva originates from. In the original tale, she rides naked through the city on horseback – so it’ll be probably a nice change to be covered up for once.

The puppet will then be transported from Coventry to the site of the Olympics with a fleet of cyclists. It all sounds a bit mental, but amazing. The Olympics just got a bit more interesting.

Zandra Rhodes wants to dress Lady Gaga

By admin on August 16th, 2010

Lady Gaga’s eccentric fashion sense has inspired and attracted equally quirky Zandra Rhodes.

The Brit designer has told Vogue that she would love to dress the pop princess, saying: “I just love how she puts her own take on things – I could make her a transparent kaftan and she’d look fabulous.

“One could do something quite extraordinary with her.”

She also told the magazine how she would like to have the singer round to the studio for a fitting.

“If she did ever want me to design her something, I’d do what I did with Freddie Mercury and Queen – I’d just get her to come over and she could pick out the sort of thing she fancied and I’d work with that,” said Rhodes. “It’s all about seeing how something moves. She could try a few pieces on and we could go from there.”

Zandra Rhodes and Millets team up to create a range of funky camping gear

By Andrea Petrou on January 20th, 2010

Zandra Rhodes and camping aren’t two words we’d normally put together but with weird partnerships springing up all over the place (think Lulu Guinness and Comet) the world of fashion is changing.

The designer and Millets have teamed up to create a range of outdoor kit ranging from tents to T-shirts.

Also included in the collection, which has been inspired by Zandra’s love of the Native Americans, are umbrellas, funky wellies and even a designer flask.

Rhodes, who in the past has designed dresses for Diana, Princess of Wales, outrageous suits for Freddie Mercury and stunning outfits for Kate Moss, said: “I’m thrilled that Millets have asked me to create a new range of clothes, accessories and camping kit for them…..It will be great to see my prints reach a new market and brighten up everywhere from campsites to concerts.”

The fashion elite came out to pay tribute to Isabella Blow yesterday at a special London Fashion Week memorial service. Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney and the always colourful Zandra Rhodes joined designers, models and even royalty (Princess Beatrice and mum Fergie) to honor the late, great British stylist who passed away in May. Although many questioned the whereabouts of Alexander McQueen who was essentially discovered by Blow and failed to appear.
