Whether you watched the VMAs on Saturday night or not, it’s always fun to have a peep at what the stars wore to one of the USA’s biggest A-list events.

Katy Perry, who came away smiling like the cat got the cream with three awards, went through more than one outfit change but our absolute favourite quirky Katy look for the night has to be the girlish Eastern-style powder blue chinoise dress, which looked cute and cartoonish with her pink hair and a matching pastel-coloured parasol.

As we all now know, Beyonce glowed with new-baby happiness all the way down the red carpet in a sizzling one-shouldered, draped orange maxi with her hair swept to one side, vintage-style. We loved her chandelier earrings too – pure 70s Halston glamour. Meanwhile, our favourite home-grown talent Adele also rocked a look from a different decade as she went for a clinging black midi-dress with huge 60s hair and makeup. Perfect.

Katie Holmes sassed it out on the red carpet with expertly teased waves and a black lace skater dress and tan suede wedge boots, while poor old Jessie J still looked sexy and upbeat despite her crutches in a jewelled black corset-body and a pair of white jewelled Bebaroque tights.

Zoe Saldana loves New York style

By emilyborrett on August 23rd, 2011

Zoe Saldana, the Avatar actress, is a huge fan of New York and the style of it’s inhabitants.

Zoe revealed that her absolute pet peeve when it comes to fashion is women that try too hard – something that she doesn’t think is a part of NYC style.

The actress said: “I have this love affair with New York that I just can’t quit, and that applies to New Yorkers’ style too. I can’t stand when people get lost in clothes because they are trying to impress. We get that a lot in Los Angeles. You need to wear your clothes, your clothes can’t wear you. New Yorkers understand that.”

Zoe, who herself in the past has launched her own clothing line with her sisters, refuses to buy in to the culture of label-mania and would rather choose clothes that adhere to her own style sensibilities.

She said: “Five years ago my sisters and I created our own brand, called Arasmaci, but we actually produced no more than a few T-shirts and some accessories because I became overwhelmed by ‘Avatar’. For many people, including a lot of actresses, fashion is all about brand names, logos, status symbols, but for me, it’s an art form.”

Zoe Saldana to become new face of Calvin Klein

By emilyborrett on July 9th, 2010

Zoe Saldana's sexy CK shoot

If you’ve seen Avatar then you’ll remember its sexy female leading actress, Zoe Saldana, being all blue and leaping about on screen. Well, now she’s set to become the face of Calvin Klein’s new underwear campaign. I personally think she looks way better without the body paint and dodgy dreadlocks.

Said Zoe Saldana, on her revealing photoshoot for CK: “Calvin Klein has always put forth such beautifully executed campaigns and it’s very exciting for me to be associated with such an iconic, globally recognised brand.” She’ll be joining the legion of other beautiful famous faces that have modelled over the years; Calvin Klein’s ad campaigns not only kick-started the career of actor Mark Wahlberg in the 1990s, but were also responsible for supermodel Kate Moss’ climb to international fame. Calvin Klein ads have most recently featured such famous faces as the star of Twilight, Kellan Lutz, Eva Mendes and tennis star Fernando Verdasco. Congratulations, Zoe!

Would you bare your bra in the name of fashion?

By lotte on November 16th, 2009

Chloe Sevigny bra.jpg

We know there have been some pretty horrible trends of late: crop tops, over-the-knee boots and day-glo fur (thanks, Dolce and Gabbana) to name just a few. But Miuccia Prada seems to be promoting another trend that two brave celebrities tried out at a Prada book launch last Friday.

Chloe Sevigny usually manages to get the balance right between quirkiness and sexiness, but this time her completely open blouse just looks a bit weird. We’re not sure about the length of her skirt either – calf-length skirts are unflattering and nearly impossible to get right.

Zoe Saldana of Star Trek was pictured in a very similar outfit. We think she pulls it off a bit better than Chloe: she’s lost the granny cardigan, her matching skirt and tights combo really lengthen her lower half, and I want her shoes. But you can still see most of her bra.

If young and beautiful female film stars can’t pull this look off, then normal people almost definitely can’t. But does that mean Chloe and Zoe shouldn’t give it a try?

Prada featured crotch-length waders last season, so maybe we should just let them get on with it in catwalk-fashion land, and stick to what we know when dressing ourselves (most of the time, anyway). After all, if they didn’t take the creative risks in the first place, we’d end up having to dress the same all the time.

Would you knowingly show you bra if it was part of a catwalk look? Let us know in the comments.

ShinyStyle Gallery: D&G L.A. opening attracts Tinsel Town’s starlets

By Kimberley Foster on December 16th, 2008

The number one place to be on Monday night was at the opening of the new D&G flagship store in Los Angeles. Dolce & Gabbana certainly have some fine young thangs for pals, inviting a plethora of young Hollywood stars to their glitzy bash on Robertson Blvd. The opening also doubled as a charity event, to raise funds for The Art of Elysium – a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of artists and critically ill children. Among the high-profile guests were Rachel Bilson, Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, Lauren Conrad, Rumer Willis, and Paris and Nicky Hilton. We have all the red carpet pics of what they wore – check out our special gallery!
