It seems we're on a vintage roll today.

Not only have we compiled a gallery of bags, shoes and scarves, but Lara Stone's engagement ring is also said to be a vintage favourite.

And the day gets better for all you vintage Gucci collectors out there too.
The brand has teamed up with auction house Christie's to launch a website, which lets you see if those old family Gucci hand me downs and collectables are actually worth something.

The service, will also inform the collectors whether their item would be of interest to either Gucci or Christie's from an historical perspective and will assure prospective buyers of its authenticity.

Gucci president and ceo Patrizio di Marco, told Vogue: "This new service will provide a 'trusted' venue for transactions of vintage Gucci items thereby avoiding recourse to 'uncontrolled' auction sites such as eBay."

We're off to have a dig around our old aunt Mabel's flat.

We love a bit of traditional vintage here at ShinyStyle. Not only does it mean we're more than likely to be the only ones holding that handbag at a party, but we also love the buzz of hunting through stores and now online to find those perfect vintage items.

With the credit crunch still lurking we also think vintage has never been better with many gems being picked up for half their original prices.

We've therefore scouted the net to find you some traditional vintage bags, scarves and other items, but you'll have to be quick off the mark with this gallery as once the one of a kind items are gone, they're gone.

If you're wondering why Google's been displaying various Sesame Street doodles on its home page this week, it's to celebrate the popular shows 40th birthday.

The series, which bought us hours of fun as children and if we're honest, adults too, officially celebrates on the 10th of this month.

But it's not just the television program that's won our hearts.

Over the years a number of memorabilia such as toys and t-shirts have cropped up and what better way to take part in the celebrations than with this gallery of retro Sesame Street clothing.

Lalita Prada bag.JPGIf you're looking for some original vintage accessories, then log on to the Lalita website.

The site, launched this month, specialises in selling vintage accessories for men and women and has a range of designer items ranging from the 1920s to the 1970s.

We wish we'd never been told about this site as we've decided we want everything this shop stocks. Of the many this includes a Ted Lapidus purse, an old Prada handbags and an original Jane Shilton retro scarf. There are also some fun non-branded bits such as a 50s croc skin purse and a retro beach bag.

If you're feeling generous with your cash then there is also a range of menswear such as cute bowties, ties and a vintage comb set. As each item is second hand vintage, it is also a one off and comes with information its condition.

As well as clothing the site also stocks collectables such as vintage sets of coasters, collectable thimbles and little trinkets you would only expect to see in a little shop tucked away at the end of a village.

Prices range from around £15-£40, which we think is amazing value for these one off gems.

If you're as into 50's Mad Men fashion as most of us here at Shiny, take a look at this vintage 50's red plaid dress, $55, from starletvintage on Shop Etsy. We're guessing it doesn't come with the belt but we suggest you take a cue from the seller's styling because it looks adorable.

More pics after the jump.

Mad Men cast.jpg

Wouldn't it be exciting to be dressed by the same woman who creates January Jones' fashions on Mad Men? Well, when Janie Bryant, costume designer for Betty Draper, Joan Holloway and all the AMC series' stars, was asked about doing her own line by Glamour magazine she had this to say:

"I'm working on some things right now...I hate to be so mysterious but I can't really say! It would have my name attached to it though."

We're guessing it couldn't be completely 50's/60's inspired no matter how much we'd all eat that up, but you can count on some vintagy touches and Bryant's attention to detail.

We found a terrific site for those who are as obsessed with period films and their costumes as we are, The Costumers Guide to Movie Costumes. One of Fashionista's Fashion Trivia commenters mentioned it.

While perusing the site we came across this link to the Royal Ontario Museum where there is a podcast about restoring a dress believed to be Marie Antoinette's.

Isabelle over at The Bag Lady is loving this two-tone handbag, the two colours look great together and are really warm. The bag itself has long straps for tucking under your arm and is big enough for your essentials and a book. It's a mere $17 from Ballyhoo Vintage which is bargainous considering it's made from real leather and will age much better than plastic or vinyl.
