Rihanna Arrives Seoul

Rihanna's style is one we like to talk about alot here at ShinyStyle. Sometimes she's kooky, sometimes she shows us how fashion should be worn and other times she makes us feel better showing us that even the best people can make mistakes.

However we're not too sure what to make of the outfit she wore when she arrived at Gimpo International Airport in Seoul, South Korea, where she is promoting her album 'Rated R'.

Dressed in a military style coat over a denim waistcaot, the singer looks as though she's tried to combine too many styles into one outfit. And while we understand the need to cover up hair after a long flight, we really can't condone the military style baseball cap, which worn at a side angle looks as though it should be on the set of the Fresh Price of Bel-Air.

Lily Corsett.jpgWe've been banging on about underwear as outerwear for a while now, and we'll be reviewing a corset set later on next week, after we've attempted to wear it as outerwear in a few clubs.

However, we're still not 100% sure about the trend, which is has previously been sported by the likes of Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Britney Spears.

And these new pictures showing Lily Allen performing in a corset top made for underwear haven't done much to settle our fashion minds.

The pop starlet, who is no stranger to this style, wore a tiny lace-covered corset, teamed with Chanel mock-stockings for a gig in Australia and although she pulls it off better than some celebs we still don't know what to make of it.

What do you think about this trend? Does it work and would you wear it or do you think undies should remain firmly out of site? Let us know by leaving your comments below.

Uggly or a winter winner?

Comments (2)

We've been split on Ugg boots and similar ever since Lauren bought the fashion to light in her column. Looking at the comments we received and the number of you who Twittered, it seems there's a divide between those of us who define them as trend and those who think they are tragic.

So we want to get to the bottom of this. We've put together a gallery of boots for this year which, we think fall into the love them or hate them category. Take a look at the gallery by clicking on the picture below and then let us know your thoughts by voting.

We look forward to reading your views.

Real fur for fashion: Yay or Nay?

Comments (0)

fur.jpg
Fur has made a comeback to the catwalk this year, with many designers showing off these fur sleeves and we know it's now only a matter of time before this trend hits the high street. Although many stores will opt for fake fur to keep costs and protesting down, we think higher end stores will stock the real deal. We don't have an exceptionally strong opinion on fur but we know many of you do so we want to hear from you. Vote below, and leave your comments and tell us what you think about real fur in fashion.

Fintstones look dress: Yay or Nay?

Comments (0)

pixie.jpgWe're not quite sure what we're going to do with ourselves now that London Fashion Week has closed its runway doors for another season (sob).

It's been an amazing week full of designs that have had us shivering with excitement and, at times, horror.

We know we'll still be talking about the week for a long time to come, especially when high street stores begin bringing out replicas of the catwalk creations but one thing we don't expect to ever be telling you about again is this caveman outfit by designer Jeremy Scott.

Now, we love the Flintstones look and think this dress looked amazing on the catwalk but we're not sure we'd want to see any replicas of this hitting the high street anytime soon.

Or are we being too hasty? Would you like to see a similar style of this one-shouldered, neon orange prom-style dress modeled by Pixie Geldof? And would you wear it?

Vote below and let us know.

Size zero. The debate

Comments (1)

zeromodel.jpgWe've stayed away from the size zero debate so far now, but with London Fashion week (LFW) fast approaching we thought we'd bring out the classic debate of whether size zero models should be allowed on the catwalk.

This summer the British Fashion Council which organises LFW, has said that models should have to obtain a doctor's certificate to prove their healthiness. The aim was to discourage eating disorders but other fashion capitals failed to follow London's lead. As a result the British Fashion Council consequently abandoned its crusade. Hmmm not very good is it?

And the debate has even been picked up by celebrities. Earlier this month, model Caprice hit out at size zero models: 'It's horrible. I think the media should not even pay attention to these women,' she told Now magazine.

'It's disgusting. I think it's unwomanly and I think it's unfeminine.'

Now Caprice is hardly what you would call curvy, but she's not a twiglet either is she?

So we want to hear from you should size zero models be allowed on the catwalk? Vote now.

Sheer sophistication or sheer madness?

Mischa BartonNow we're pleased to see that Mischa Barton is looking healthier after her recent stint in a psychiatric hospital, and she's most definitely making the most of it, with this sheer dress, minus a bra.

This takes me back to the days; well it must have been at least ten years ago, that the bra under a sheer top was the fashion must have.

I remember trying to sneak out of the house with my mother following me close behind waving a camisole (yes she called it that) and telling me to put it on to hide my modesty.

Now although this fashion has clung on by a sheer thread over the past few years, with designers always introducing at least one bra flashing garment, it seems that it's getting bigger again.

Only recently were celebrities including Louise Redknapp and Victoria Beckham being snapped left right and centre flashing their bras. But does this look really say sophistication or do we risk making a boob of ourselves? Tell us what you think by voting below.

audrina_patridge_birthday_yay_or_nay.jpg

Today I'm singling out poor wee Audrina from The Hills for this round of Yay or Nay - I say poor wee Audrina because I feel a bit bad bashing on the birthday girl (she apparently turned 24 on Saturday).

While she's a tried-and-true jeans and rocker tee fan for her day-to-day wardrobe, I often feel she chooses red carpet outfits which can toe the line between cute and dare I say it, tarty. This one-shoulder white dress which she has selected to wear to her birthday celebrations at Beso restaurant in LA over the weekend is actually quite a good example of a good dress maybe not living up to it's full potential. But at the same time, I also want to cheer her on for her "well, if you've got it, flaunt it" attitude - heck, if I looked like her, I'd probably want to wear frocks like that too! What do you think? Vote in our poll below.

Kimberley Foster writes...

Never one to shy away from crazy clothes, Katy Perry turned heads once again this week for her unique fashion sense. The singer was spotted leaving her concert in New York in this technicolour Japanese-print suit from Basso & Brooke's spring '09 collection.

katyperry_bassobrooke_technicoloursuit.jpg

"Katy has been requesting it from our PR for months," Chris Brooke revealed to Grazia. "She wanted to wear it on New Year's Eve but it was always out being used in shoots. In fact she has worn quite a bit of our stuff." It was a bold choice for Katy, who recently chopped off her locks into a sleek bob, but was it the right one? You tell us - vote yay or nay in Catwalk Queen's reader poll below!

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Omelle Petal Flat Sandal

Yay or Nay shoe.jpg

It's true enough that any shoe seen to vary from traditional shoe shapes can be thought of as weird or too out there. So what about this one? Layered petal details over the heel and ankle, tied with a ribbon, seem a little out there. But who knows, these could be the shoes that define your summer wardrobe.

Yay or Nay Wednesday: drop-crotch shorts

Chloe drop crotch shorts.jpg

Drop-crotch shorts. Does anything about the name make them sound like they'd be at all appealing? Not really, but they keep coming around, and from the likes of fashionable designers like Chloe, at left.

So is there something I'm missing? Are drop-crotch shorts on your summer 09 must-have list? Tell us what you think below.

Yay or Nay Wednesday: jumpsuits

Moschino jumpsuit.jpg

It was one thing when pop stars started wearing short jumpsuits ironically (Katie Perry) and then starlets started wearing them to show off their bodies (Blake Lively) but now the long 70's jumpsuit is back?

Moschino Cheap & Chic, shown, was just one spring 09 collection that included long, flowy jumpsuits as the new take on the maxidress.

What do you think? Is this an awesome revival or something best left in the time capsule? Yay or Nay?

Yay or Nay Marc top.jpg

One-shouldered looks were all over the red carpet for the Golden Globes, but what about in a more casual piece?

This Marc by Marc Jacobs Bianca one-shouldered jersey top looks feminine and chic, but do you think one long sleeve is practical? Do you care?

Yay or Nay on the one-shouldered, long sleeve top.

DPOTW Miu Miu shoes.jpg

Don't get us wrong, we love a Miu Miu shoe. But do you love this Miu Miu sequin platform pump, $950? Or, as Cher Horowitz would say, it is a full on Monet?

While the sequins might look less garish from far away, the seemingly random color placement may make the hue look muddled.

Yay or Nay Wednesday: tights over tights

Comments (1)

Yay or Nay Wednesday tights.jpg

In the winter, it becomes a little scarier to wear your open-weave or fishnet-type tights with the wind whipping your stems. So, the thing has become to wear these lower-coverage tights over a pair of opaques.

I was grappling with this question myself today (grey open-weave tights over black?) and was told that tights over tights screams "I think I'm sooo hip." (I decided on maroon opaques, by themselves.)

So what do you think? Have you sported tights over tights to stay fashionable and toasty?
