Yay or Nay Wednesday: overalls

Comments (0)

trouser overalls.jpg

Overalls are a joke, right? They look more ridiculous in old TLC videos than the "birth control" sunglasses do, and poor Jillian was caught wearing them just a couple months ago on Project Runway. So if they're so ridiculous why do people keep making them?

Burberry belt.jpg

Is it a medieval torture device or a belt? Depends how tight you cinch it we supposed.

The real question is: Yay or Nay?

To be fair we'll show you what it looks like as part of an outfit after the jump.

Louboutin cutout bootie.jpg

For many of us, booties themselves were questionable enough. So what do you think of this Christian Louboutin cutout bootie, $860?

And furthermore, when you see a shoe or bag or any item that you're not sure about - does it help sway you when it's by a favorite designer?

Would you buy a shoe by Christian Louboutin that you would never buy from a less iconic designer? Why?

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Marc Jacobs mesh lace Robert bag on bags

Marc%20Jacobs%20bag%20on%20bag.jpg

Keris over at TheBagLady drew our attention to this Marc Jacobs bag-on-bag combo, $2,100. What do we think, yay or nay? I believe this raises a larger fashion philosophical question - does the fact that it's Marc Jacobs ensure that it's a yay? After his spring collection, some people are changing their tunes on that issue. What about you? Little purse sewed onto a big purse - yay or nay?

Yay or Nay Wednesday: new Chloe bags

What do you think of the new Chloe bags just arrived at Net-a-Porter? Personally, these bags make me long for an Elvire or the days of the Paddington. From left to right we have the Ada tote, $2,280, the bay bag, a favorite of our UK sister TheBagLady at $1,780, and the Saskia leather tote, $,2005, my least favorite of the bunch. What do you think - yay or nay?

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Mena Suvari at Sundance

Mena%20Suvari%20Sundance.jpg

What do you think of Mena Suvari's look in the famous photobooth at the Sundance Film Festival? We find it interesting to wear when you know you're not only going to be shot by paparazzi, but are having your cast portraits taken that day (she's in The Mysteries of Pittsburgh). I would probably warm up to the whole look, even if it is a bit tough, if only she weren't wearing that head scarf. I think it's aweful, but some have said it made the outfit. What do you think?

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Gucci Joy Boston Bag

Gucci%20joy%20bag.jpg

When we were perusing the new spring/summer Gucci arrivals at Saks Fifth Avenue, we really liked this Gucci Joy Boston bag in the thumbnail and so clicked on it. But when we got up close, we weren't so sure. Is the floral embroidery that looks more like applique in some parts, too much or just enough? Or does the basic black and white palette make up for it? If you had the $1,950 lying around, would you buy this bag, yay or nay?

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Balenciaga Derby shearling high heels

Comments (2)

Balenciaga%20bootie.jpg

So we know it's us, and not Nicolas Ghesquiere, but we're not totally getting Balenciaga's shoes as of late. These derby shearling high heels for instance, when we think of them in terms of Carrie wearing something like them in a fictional Sex and the City world we get it. But then we think about the real world we live in, and we don't. Do you? Yay or Nay?

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Chloe tie-front raincoat

Chloe%20pink%20jacket.jpg

I know it's Chloe, and we feel bad putting anything of hers in the Yay or Nay category...but it's pink vinyl. This $1,970 tie-front coat looks a little bit like a raincoat I had in kindergarten, and also one my Barbie had. Which I thought was fabulous at the time, but all grown up ... I don't know. What do you think?

Yay or Nay Wednesday: floral vinyl tote from Forever 21

floral%20vinyl%20tote.jpg

This floral vinyl tote with braided rope drawstring and handles is $28.80 at Forever 21. What do you think? Is is trend-right for spring with the floral motif, or does it kind of look like one of those "designer trash bags" that have prints on them? Yay or Nay?

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Earmuffs

Comments (1)

Burberry%20earmuffs.jpg

These just in: bordeaux quilted patent leather ear muffs from Burberry. Now there's no question, if you're going to wear ear muffs, these are the most fabulous ones to sport - but would you wear ear muffs? If you live somewhere like Georgia and don't really have a winter, you might not even be able to contemplate such an accessory, but in colder climes it's often tempting to wrap your entire head in a wool scarf just to get the mail. So, would you wear ear muffs?

opentoeboot.jpgOk, so I love knee-high boots and I love open-toe shoes, but together? I'm not so sure. These Open-toe Boots from Arden B. combine both my loves for a look I can only deem as overkill. I like the way these nylon knee-high boots fit very snug against the leg, and they'd look great with a slightly rounded toe, but the open toe just looks odd. It kind of defeats the purpose of a boot, don't you think? They're for keeping your feet warm on chilly days while still creating a sexy, stylish look, so we don't lament the wonderful sandal-wearing days of summer so much... But that's just my opinion, what do you think?

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Louis Vuitton colorblock monogram bag

Comments (3)

Louis%20Vuitton%20colorblock.jpg

I think I already know the answer, but what do you think of this Louis Vuitton colorblock monogram bag? If you ask me those pink accents look like cheaper versions of the gems on Aerin Lauder's private collection fragrances. Do you love all things Louis, or are you majorly over the monogram, yay or nay?

leather%20cape.jpgSo, I like the cape trend, but I don't know about this Kooba leather cape on sale at Saks Fifth Avenue for $486--down from $695. I think it just looks weird--all the zippers and stitching details confuse me. It kind of looks like they un-stitched the arms of a really nice leather jacket to make a cape. I don't know--what do you think?

Christian%20Lacroix_motorcycle%20boots.JPG
Hmm...I don't know about these multi-colored, irridescent leather Christian Lacroix Motorcycle-style boots--is it just me or are they incredibly tacky? These boots, featured on Net-A-Porter for a whopping $1,295, are accented with stud and crystal embelishments on a pointed toe with velvet laces up the front and include an embellished detachable gator and around the heel. I don't believe any biker chic would be caught dead in them, let alone a wealthy fashionista... What do you think?
